On Invisible Walls (gametrailers) they said that the new Dual Shock has less dead zone in the stick then the sixaxis. Is this true? I might need a new PS3 controller.

Can anyone else confirm this? I've been wanting to get one anyway but this will confirm my purchase. OOps I guess andycapps did as well.

The cover system is only poor with the Alt-2 implementation.

The cover system works brilliantly for the default control scheme.

Exactly. I find that the cover works perfectly with the default. Alt 2 is a little awkward, unless thats the way you like to play. But for me, I have become very comfortable with the default control scheme, and cover for me is as easy as pie.

I really like the DS3 but the analog sticks are way too sensitive and loose. If they were as tight and controlled as the 360's, I'd like it so much more.

As it is, I can barely play FPS on the PS3. The Resistance demo was too twitchy; same for KZ2.

I wish I could enjoy it as much as you guys, but as it is I'm not buying the game.

This is my favorite game ever and I haven't even played it. The noise surrounding it is more entertaining than any game could hope to be.

Dayum. Reviewer mudslinging now?

:O Damn. The game is really good then?

And that label is: "a bunch of kids with superiority complexes who just want to prove they 'know more' than everyone else...at the expense of the consumer." That, right there, sums up Edge's review. For your sake, just ignore it.

Ouch. Was that even necessary? It's just their opinion :X

You do realize there is an adapter that will allow you to play the 360 pad on the PS3 if this is such a goddamn game-changing issue.

Have to agree. Before playing the demo I thought I would be using Alt 2 as well but it doesn't work right with how the cover system is. That being said I could see myself switching to Alt 2 when I get done with single player and play competetive online.

This thread scares me and I fear posting in it but here goes...

If you live in the UK and have Sky TV. Bravo's gaming show Playr has a whole program on Killzone 2. I watched it this morning and I thought some of you may be interested.

Agh! don't hurt me

To be honest, I think there is nothing wrong with the PS3 controller. There is a lot of bitching and moaning going on in here like the 360 is the perfect gaming machine, the controller is gods gift to FPS. Give me a break. I've own the PS3 since day one, and played every FPS on it even the mediocre third party ones, and never once did I feel that the PS3 controller was any reason for concern. Just like everyone else on my friends list and everyone else in my neighborhood, who have been playing on a PS3 controller since day 1.

There is nothing wrong with the controller. I actually prefer it thanks to the smaller dead zone. But to some people that only seem to game on their 360s, it's apparently a huge issue.

If you own a PS3 and love games like KZ2, but apparently do not like the sticks so much that it will prevent you from playing said games, then why do you even own a PS3 in the first place? Either adapt or get an adapter to do it for you.

They play just fine to me.

Cool picture! :) Is it a fanmade picture or an official picture made by the developers of Killzone 2?

i think it's an official poster made by guerilla games. It was released during the launch of Killzone 1.

In fear of pissing off the defensive Killzone fans here; I'm in the same boat. People here laugh in other's faces because they're not enjoying the large dead zone the control sticks has, but when so many are complaining about it, there's probably something to it.

There's been a few instances where I've used several seconds to try and make the crosshair settle on an enemy in the distance. It just jerks around too much if I'm not super careful. It's not a problem when you're in a close quarter fight at all, but there's those rare moments where you have to pick off people in the distance where it gets hard.

It does work fine when playing online, because there is no cover so no need to be awkwardly fighting with the cover button. I can also see why people like Alt 2 because it kind of mimics COD 4, but for me I want Killzone 2 to mimic Killzone 2.

Non-FPS work fine personally.

Ratchet plays wonderfully. Warhawk works fine but there is a nice amount of auto aim and the game doesn't center around precision shots (I stay away from the sniper rifle).

On my CRT, it's 5. Uncharted's demo is 3, Resistance 2 is 2, (menus is 1) and XMB is 1. They just need to get it down to 3, because Uncharted feels perceivably instant, imo.
By 'four', I meant delay introduced by game itself (just what Gamasutra was measured). If you have one frame delay in XMB, that's probably introduced by TV processing then. That would put the game in line with other stuff they measured, Halo 3 included (which has 4-5 frame delay depending on action).

It's interesting though that Uncharted and R2 have delay so small - R2 has delay in line with 60FPS games, and Uncharted is in line with the most reponsive 30FPS game tested by Gamasutra.

What large dead zone? The DS3 has a smaller deadzone than the 360 pad.

What you're experiencing is very little auto aim and is not a function of the sticks at all.

How many people in the real world do you think knows of this large dead zone problem we here on Gaf have the privilege of knowing. Go outside and just speak to other gamers and ask them "Do you think that the PS3 controller has a large dead zone?" I guarantee you they'll look at you like your an idiot. In the real world, gamers play games. The don't care about this extreme technical things that we Gaffers drum up on forums. No one in the real world is gonna complain about dead zones.

Well, maybe it's this mythical input lag I'm experiencing then :P

Seem to be enough people here saying there's a difference, so I guess I'll have to pick up a Dualshock 3 and Realtriggers (54.78) + KZ2 (60$) = $114.78

Shit this game just got expensive. :lol

And we're back on controllers. I can understand a "preference", but for anyone to say a shooter is unplayable on a DS3/SixAxis is just someone who's not good at shooters that they can't adapt. I kill people just fine on the DS3 or the 360 controller. Only thing that's really up for discussion are the D-pads.

Uhh....toggle zoom?

Alt 2 sucks for taking cover, but standard 1 or 2 is perfect (which is why it's standard).

Alt 2 is my favorite, maybe I'm of the few who can use it effectively........

Blu-ray FTW. KZ2 has been the first FPS worth owning on the PS3 so far, for people who don't play FPS's on PS3 much it's definitely tough getting used to the dualshock.

I think there's soemthing wrong with the Halo 3 view count. The thread is so damn massive, there were problems a while back.

Are you using the Sixaxis or DS3? If Sixaxis, get rid of that or use it for when guests come over like I do and get a DS3 for yourself. World of difference. I didn't have much problems getting headshots in the demo at all with the DS3.

To me I think it's just an excuse.

Complaining about the controller :lol
Where were they in the PS1/PS2 days not playing games? :lol
They can say N64 but that controller was a mess.

Or maybe they started gaming on the Xbox.

Edit: Low sensitivity works best for Killzone 2 in my opinion.
For precision aiming because there is hardly any auto aim and aim assist.

What the hell.. I told myself a few days ago to ignore this Killzone drama but it's been a car wreck. Officially unsubscribing to this thread now. If I keep reading I'm going to be looking for the things wrong with the game just to challenge this kind of idiocy.
