What is with the sound? Something seems off. I have to crank my surround sound to make it sound good. Also the guns sound quite weak.

Good demo though. I HATED it the first time through but each time after it got better. I agree though lots of people are going to play it once and hate it. For those so quick to dismiss give it another chance. After my 3rd playthriough it all started to click.

I like the demo control, kind remind me of uncharted.

When you play through again but experiment on the detail object cos some of them are really impressed aware of effects.

I can't wait to play more another levels. Screw Sony EU for early date demo.

Im not a fan of acceleration and sadly thats a huge problem with the controls here. It takes awhile to start the turn, then takes off....hate that shit.

I understand what GG was aiming for and thats all well and good, but for competitive MP this will be a deal breaker for many.

Ima still buy the game and play the shit out of it to get used to the controls because I really enjoyed the demo...

The pace is clearly different.

The controls are so similar to COD4 that I dont understand why anybody who had played that game would feel the need to clutter up the internet with anything more than "ALT2 FTW!".
I'm actually with you on that, for the most part. I didn't have much of a problem with the controls. Yet, it's not just the gameplay pace that is different, the aiming feels different as well. That being said, i have a hard time sympathizing with people saying it breaks the game. It's not quite THAT different, imo. But, hey, to each his own

There'r always positive and negative comments. There's a bigger volume of them for higher profile games, obviously. The viewpoints tend to get more extreme as well. But i feel the bullshit is coming from both ends of the spectrum a little bit. Not talking about you here, but it feels to me as if there'r at least as many (if not more) people hyping this to be the second coming than people saying it's an unplayable mess.

not a single problem with the sound here...everything sounds massive.

Pic up the Helghast assault rifle and let it loose in the warehouse.. The ISA weapon is weaksause compared to that! :D

One annoying thing I noticed with the sound is that the sound of the action gets turned down whenever Rico or someone talks.

The game does highlight the "dead zone" in the PS3 sticks, but I didn't bother tinkering with sensitivity settings so I won't complain too loudly yet. I'm hoping something can be done so I have an easier time dialing in my headshots when the view is zoomed in.

People keep saying this, there is hardly no dead-zone problems with the pad in this game at all, it's just that the acceleration period is very long, in other words the movement starts off slow and then speeds up.

This is what is giving the movement it's weighted feel, it's not a dead-zone issue, go back into the game and test, stand still and gently move the analogue stick around and you'll see it moves straight away but slowly at first, so when you move your analogue stick to it's full extent sharply it feels like there's a dead zone issue, there isn't.

It's the acceleration period, like others have said, it needs to be shortened.

At the end of the warehouse level, when the door finally opens, I peeked out just enough to start shooting random stuff. Then, I heard my squadmate get killed and in runs a helghast. It was pretty awesome. It really made me wish I could keep playing after the demo.

What I like: The audio, the rumble, the graphics, the physics, cooking grenades, the gunplay, and the promise of multiplayer with all the above plus more.

What I dislike: The dialog, the slight delay in aiming, the seizure inducing dim that occurs with every menu selection, and teh general sense of "been there, done that".

While the brevity of the demo equates to a long stare from a beautiful woman across a room, I eagerly anticipate this arrival of this game and diving into the multiplayer immediately.

LOL, you act like you have played the game already. Jeez guys.

You do realise the Maginot line was next to useless, the Nazis just went around it. Doesn't bode well for you avoiding that flood of bullshit. :lol

Decades after I've been overrun, I'll be selling overpriced T-shirts to tourists to help me buy my adult diapers. One mans useless defense aid is another mans road to financial freedom.

I dunno about you guys,

but i like the Helghan Assault riffle more than the ISA's, i dunno if thats gonna be true for multiplayer but its seems very solid to me, even aiming through iron sight feels better.

Man, I really like the Semi-Auto Rifle that the one guys drops in the warehouse. Plus, the sound effect you get when you nail a headshot with it is great. Way better than popping a dudes helmet off with the other guns. :D

Graphically, I think the game excels in lighting, depth of field and motion blur. Was a bit surprised by a couple of low-res textures on signs in the warehouse, for example. Blu-ray, where are you?

Texturing didn't blow me away either. I was kind of thinking of Uncharted 2 when I was playing this..in that while Uncharted 2 may not have all the lovely post-processing going on that KZ2 has, it seems to have maintained and increased texture quality to another level entirely.

I thought there might be at least some 'strategic' higher resolution texturing going on in places prone to use as cover, for example. In the warehouse, I found myself close up to some less than stellar texturing while using cover.

When I took off the HUD, and sat back a bit from my screen, I didn't notice these things so much, the 'sum' of the image was far greater. And I'm not saying the texturing is bad, but in isolation it's maybe not quite as brilliant as other aspects of the image. I also don't wanna judge the whole game based on just those areas in that regard either.

On a totally different note..I also very much get when people say there's nothing particularly unprecedented about KZ2, sans the graphics perhaps. But that doesn't quite mean it's run-of-the-mill or standard either, or even that it's not 'special'. Individual components may not exceed what we've seen elsewhere in the genre to date, but it's still pretty rare to get the level of AI, gun-play, presentation/graphics etc. hinted at by the demo all in one package.

How so? Every one of those impressions comes from the demo.

I was referring to your intention to skip SP and just play MP when you get the game. Come on. Seriously now.

Did anyone else run into a game-killing glitch in the second area just before you take the lift? My first time through, the action stopped after we cleared the area and I could sense that something was wrong. I ran to the checkpoint and nothing happened. Then I saw it: Rico was stuck, buried up to his neck in the ground! He was just lodged there, jittering, and I finally just had to restart the demo from the first scene because when I reloaded from the checkpoint, Rico stayed stuck.

I know this is a demo, but ouch.

Anyway - I'm damn excited about this game and so glad it's so close to release.

I'm going to enjoy this game like a thirsty, out-of-control wino guzzling a fine wine.
did you take a picture?!

TTP, control in the demo feels fine to you? Is there any difference to your review copy?

I hope they patch in the ability to customize deadzone/acceleration.

Didn't see that one, but I did run into one where I couldn't pick up my assault rifle (even though I was standing over it and it was blinking happily at me) after I dropped it to get the rocket launcher.

You'd think if they were going to have bugs like that in the demo, they'd at least give you enough rocket launcher ammo to get through the level with. I'm canceling my preorder.

Played the demo another four times last night and it's a total and complete blast. Even on the set difficulty level the AI was pretty damn good. I never died but it was pretty damn challenging my first time through.

Right now my only control gripe is how cover uses the same button as crouch, which logically makes sense but takes a bit of getting used to in practice. Alternate 2 is definitely the way to go for me, too.

Day -1.

Played it and really liked it. A couple things about the controls. I really don't like that you don't stick to cover and because of that I think I am going to stick with the standard control scheme since I refuse to play pushing L1 and L2 at the same time. Oh how I wish every game let me configure every button.

Edit: If they allowed me to stick to cover I would definitely switch to alt 2.

I think you are reading too much into that comment. I typically jump into MP on all the games that come out simply to get a foothold ASAP on the MP so that I don't get my butt handed to me a week later if I dedicate solely to the SP. Relax, TTP. I will take it all in.

Whats the deal with the color settings? I had to go into my tv settings and bump up the brightness like crazy just to make the symbol appear. When I got in the game it was way too bright. Tried it again.. this time ignoring the symbol and it looked amazing.

Control seems a bit sluggish to me. I understand there's a heft to it, but I dunno. What went from a must-buy now goes to a "oh..hey... the economy's bad... how about I just rent."

I played a little this morning after I was awoken by a shrieking animal that was apparently dying in my yard...thank god its cold out..no smell :D

Anyway, I don't understand the 'input delay', I dont see that at all, the dead zone is tiny and the acceleration is not so crazy it makes it hard to aim...it feels more tactile, more like a 200lb man hold a gun. Sensitivity +1 feels perfect to me

I absolutely love the gas cylinders in the warehouse, if you shoot them, they hiss, then fire forms in the hole, then BOOM...if you shoot them towards the end the gas coming out makes them spin / move correctly...very nice detail.

AI stuff like having them blind fire at me after I pin them down is SO cool.

Graphics, well, put it this way, play the demo, then play COD, then play the Demo, then play COD...way to ruin COD for me GG....same with the controls, once I played the demo a few times, going back into COD I was running into corners cause I was used to the weight of KZ already, the 'floating gun' of other shooters suddenly feels cheap and plastic, and frankly kinda lazy all of a sudden....21 days till multiplayer.

^^This, I CANNOT get the symbol to show up..I actually do not think its there.

Mine is here too.

BTW These are not "review copy", these are "promo retail" discs, which are retail but without retail insignia and pictures.

LoL good luck finding it, its one of those games that will probably be out of stock at BB for weeks. I like the way the controls feel though...

Eh, i've played this 5 times now and im not seeing how the controls are that different to most other shooters. To me it just feels like COD4 with a little bit of weight, and im definately not experiencing this second of input lag.

Good demo though, looking forward to the full thing.

Wasn't overly impressed with textures either, to be frank. Yet i don't know that it's fair to compare the demo to a game that's months from being released. All we saw from uncharted 2, unless i'm missing something, was shots, bull or not, and a cple of cutscenes. I think i heard the cutscenes are supposed to be "in engine," or something to that end, but the animation is clearly not regular gameplay animation, and it wouldn't be too surprising if the textures used were beefed up versions of the regular ones (if that makes any sense).

Yeah, i'd take the word "second," in: "a second of input lag" as defiant hyperbole.

Well yeah like I said I think it looks better darker. I would really love to see what the exact settings are supposed to be like on my tv. I know they posted the Bravia settings.. but I have a Samsung.

Oh, it's definitely there. On my display it never disappears now matter how low the in-game brightness settings are.

I almost had a demo breaking bug right before the end. When Rico's supposed to unlock the door, he just cant get up the stairs in the Warehouse. As soon as he's in front of the stairs, he makes a quick turn, runs beneath them and then THROUGH THE WALL, back and forth, for about 1-2 minutes :lol

Aside from that, I'm getting more used to the standard control scheme. But I still hate L2/R2 on the Dualshock.

The sound is very impressive. Especially in the warehouse. Makes you feel like your actually in a warehouse. The music is awesome. I just left the main menu open for a couple of minutes so I could listen to the theme. Love it.

Whats the deal with the color settings? I had to go into my tv settings and bump up the brightness like crazy just to make the symbol appear. When I got in the game it was way too bright. Tried it again.. this time ignoring the symbol and it looked amazing.
Did the same. I bumped up the ingame contrast fully, still no logo, but way too bright in-game. Turned it down to default, everything looked fine.

It's the same and friggin fine as far as I'm concerned. I had the very same reaction everyone is having about the controls the first time I played it back in last summer. They felt "odd". But then, it took me one online match in beta to "get it" and by the time I got the review code it was already a non-issue at all. I played the SP game on Veteran right away btw.

I think many people here are affected by:

a) Impulse to run and gun and circle strafe enemies.
b) Impulse to use iron sights as a mandatory complement to pulling the trigger.
c) Not crouching (helps aiming "smoothness" quite a bit)
c) Not really taking the time to understand the combat situation and pick your targets from convenient position.

I think GG should have added a proper tutorial at the beginning of the game rather than toss the player into a shit storm from the get go.

I had to bump up the brightness so much that it washed allot of the colors out. I put my tv in "game mode" and the game looked perfect. But if it could look better I wouldn't mind trying different settings.

If your darks are too damn dark guys, you have to turn set your RGB option to Limited (NOT Full) in the XMB picture settings.

Gah, this is what I will do to Jack Frost for this snow:

Killzone2-2.gif

Couple questions after playing....

1. Did anyone else feel that the default brightness was way too high? I had to turn it way down in the options, and then everything looked loads better!!

2. On my Bravia 1080p set the demo plays at 720p unless i manually only set the PS3 to 1080p in the xmb.....that's odd.....Will the final game be like that too?

Overall, I really enjoyed the demo, and cant wait for the full game!!

have you set PS3 HDMI range to "full" instead of "limited" ? perhaps your TV doesn't support it? if that's the case you should set it to "limited" and calibrate brightness/contrast accordingly.

edit: wait what? promo discs? what do I have do to?
