The initial ranking system is just based on how long you play it, it's very casual, means everyone can unlock every class eventually, no one gets left behind. From the Beta, in Phase 2 I played the game properly and after 45 hours had only gotten half of the medals. And that was the stuff I was good at, the other half would have taken me even longer. The very best guys in the Beta had 80-100+ hours clocked in and they didn't have every medal.

If that's the case, I hope that they segregate those players with all the special abilities to only be able to play with each other as it'll make for an unbalanced experience for the majority of players that are unable to invest the time to compete at that level.
 
TTP, I'm sure you've answered this before in one of the hundreds of previous pages, but in the final review copy is there a split second jitter when loading sections? And if so, has Guerrilla said if that will be gone in the retail copy, or still be there? Not a huge deal, but a small annoyance.

I'm pretty sure you can choose to play players within your rank only.

Not really. A regular soldier can hang well against people with higher classes and more stuff unlocked. People that got into the beta late know that.

COD4 is completely unbalanced at least until you get up into the teens... As long as they make it fun for the lower level players and so they don't feel completely frustrated, I don't see how that's an issue. From what people have said that were in the beta, it sounds like it won't be an issue. You've got to keep that carrot dangling in front of the player in the form of new ranks, perks, weapons to keep them going.
 
So in MP, if you have 3-4 friends you're playing with is there an option to stay grouped together even if you're not in a clan?
 
Is it possible to play it online and enable easy kills? This as in: one hit, one kill if it gets you in the torso and/or head.

Personally I am a bit afraid when it comes to the online experience, having seen the single player "bots" being able to take several shots to the body.

The games just keep on repeating/rotating, so everyone always stays together until you choose to leave.

And if you do chose to leave to find a better game, then your friends just have to select "join friend" and they instantly jump into your game.

Do you risk getting kicked to the other side during an autobalance?

If the game is set to auto balance then yes. But if you join/create a game with auto balance off then no you can stay on the same side. Also you can form 4 man squads in game, where you will spawn on the squad leader. You then get your own voice channel I believe, but enemies can still hear you based on proximity.

Even with if you're playing people at higher ranks and someone with all the classes unlocked, it still comes down to how good your are at the CORE mechanics. If you're not good at those, then it doesnt matter how many classes or abilities you have unlocked. You're still able to defeat any tactician, sniper, saboteur, technician, assault class(they're harder for everybody to kill) even if you just choose the class with no abilities.

Not a every class can choose the same weapons. So each one has a specific advantage and disadvantage when you use them. It really just comes down to play style.

It's unbalanced in a balanced way. It's weird to understand w/o playing the game yourself but I'm sure you'll understand when the game comes out.

There's no auto grenade dropping either. But you can drop a grenade, that you've had cooking already, if somebody kills you. It wasnt int he beta but TTP stated that they added this in the final code though. IIRC

Yeah it needs to start pretty soon. I really hope they don't fuck up the marketing for this game like they do with the rest.

Or you could just make it fun.

I really dislike this unlocking business in multiplayer games. I for some reason thought KZ2 wasn't going to be like this, so I'll probably just rent the game for the single player.

Truth?! That is great news. I hated tossing grenades and then dying only to have my grenade disappear.

Further to the autobalancing discussion. You can play at your rank, or you can set up games that limit the primary badges that can be used, and what secondary badges are available. You can even set it up so there are no classes, or disallow badge combinations and limit weapon choices.

However, as has been stated, ranking is a function of time moreso than ability. This means that everyone will have access to all classes over a long enough period of time. Yet classes only provide different playing styles. It is not as though I person who unlocks the Scout class (General rank) will automatically destroy people who are only a medic or engineer class level. All classes are balanced against all others.

Have we received any confirmation on whether such customized games will be ranked or not? And any confirmation of whether ranked games default to Teamkills on or off?

wtf!!11!!!!!! But COD is the premier multi-player experience, so you're telling me this doesn't play like it??? What are they paying Guerrilla for!?!

Well does this game have the wit and charm of Killzone? I mean I thought playing with 4 characters was a bad decision a few years ago, but now that Killzone 2 is about to come out and it may have delivered... I think I've changed my mind.

Dear guerilla, in order for me not to cancel my pre-order I need a promise for these things to be patched in at or near launch:

1. Last stand perk
2. twitch controls
3. four controllable players
4. wit and humor of the first killzone
5. worse graphics, the graphics are distracting
6. Sev needs a cool helmet that covers his face.. I want to feel like its me on the battle field
7. Sev is a roided up space marine, could he please move faster.. his gear should not be that heavy.
8. bunny hop, explain that helghan has lower gravity.

I totally agree. Should've release it when the hype is this hiiiigh and of course I just want it right now.

So far I haven't seen any multiplayer vids. Can't wait to be wowed when I start that baby.

I also can't wait for the official thread. That'll be my new home for awhile :D

You need the PS3 controller for certain parts of the game so, no. Unless you don't mind switching in between the USB controller and Dualshock 3.
