Honestly my biggest gripe is that she could have encouraged the girls in the class to get into LEGOs in so many more productive ways then giving them exclusive time while leaving the boys out. Even for just the month.

She could have:

1) Made it exclusive LEGO time for everyone so the girls would be forced to play with LEGOs and possibly like it over time.

2) Pair Girls and Boys as play partners during LEGO time so they can possibly encourage the girls to get the same joy out of LEGOs.

3) Or let kids like what they like.

Instead she chose to exclude one group in favor of another. All this will do is foster resentment.

I mean we live in a world where women are going to college at higher rates and coming into a variety of professions they weren't in a few generations ago, and these girls grew up with pink, Barbie, sexist films and Damsel in Distress tropes EVERYWHERE.

I don't think the toys are as important as the support from the parents at home and that's something teachers have NO CONTROL over.

This. And have a doll day. Make them known with the different toys without giving them a choice at certain days. And then later on let them choose something they fucking like playing with. Do this with cultural stuff too. Enable the kids to learn new things and the let them make up their own mind.

I have 3 boys and 3 girls. There are many dolls, trucks, Legos, etc in my household. Guess what? The girls play with the dolls BY THEIR OWN CHOICE and the boys prefer the trucks and Legos. We dont encourage or forbid either daughters or sons from playing with whatever they want. That teacher should resign.
