King Kong OPM demo

Anyone else play this? I know the PC demo came out, but for us poor poor 56kers it was a no go. Plus the console versions is where it's at anyway.

Man, I'm seriously impressed. Demo was short as hell, but when I saw t-rex rampaging through the jungle it was intense. Freakin' throwin' spears at him as I tried to circle around some ruins to avoid his bite. I really like how they did it, without a hud or anything. Very immersive.

That's another killer game to purchase...

Also on the demo is things like DQ8, Shining Force Neo, Jak X, Ratchet Deadlocked, Chronicles of Narnia, Total Overdose, Brothers in Arms, etc...

Exactly like I expected it to be, when genius Ancel works on a game.
GoldenEye VS King Kong, fight!

Games based on movies

Hm, wow. Durr. I can't believe I missed that, it really is early.

Although I'll say now they're two very different games, especially since Kong has third person perspective mode.

But which will be the best movie based game will probably still remain Goldeneye, if only for endless multiplayer fun.

Yeh, I came away impressed with the KK demo.
Playing as KK worked well, with the jumping and swinging basically on rails but very forgiving.

It's weird. The OPM demo seemed much easier to me than the 360 demo that I played at Wal-Mart. Playing as Kong on the 360, the dino killed me many times, but I beat the OPM demo on my first try.

The game seems pretty fun. I noticed a few things that bugged me, like some collision problems, but hopefully they'll be ironed out for the final release.

Man, I'm pretty much the exact opposite. I'm not really interested in the movie, and I just checked out the game out of curiosity, and was unimpressed. I found the first person part to be pretty bland, not to mention silly that it had you just running around in circles avoiding a T-Rex for a few minutes.

What was supposed to happen after that, though? After the other two guys finally got that door open I ended up following them to this cave with a pool of water. After hiding there for a while, the T-Rex started ramming against the entrance to the cave, and then I inexplicably died, which then shot me over to the KK vs T-Rex area...

Which was even MORE dull. Sure, it's a neat idea to be able to control King Kong while fighting against a dinosaur, but I just wasn't wowed. I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that neither of them felt like the massive creatures that they were supposed to be. The fight itself was insanely repetitive, too. Basically, you stand there, mashing the punch button and throwing every so often, until the T-Rex dies.

At least the music was nice, and the lack of a HUD was pretty cool (although I can see the "talking to myself" method of ammo counting getting old fast).

Hey, that's kind of neat, actually. Has that method been used at all since Trespasser?

How is your health meter and the health meter for dinos shown without the HUD?

When you get badly damaged you get audio notes like heavier breathing, and when you're really bad the screen is sort of red and you run/walk slower/morelaboured. It's a pretty neat, subtle effect but works.

It's because you don't have an health meter. The game indicates you visually that you are injured and if you're injured too much, you die.

You really didn't dig the style. It's a cinematic game, it's more linear than some other action games. It follows the movie story and makes you play through the whole movie if i can put it that way.
When you're in a Jack level, you are powerless before a T-Rex. You can't kill the T-Rex, he's an element of stress, YOU are the one who's vulnerable.
Jack = survival gameplay. Kong = i kick yo ass gameplay. The duality of those 2 styles
is what makes the game.

About that place you hide in the water... You died because you tried to get out of the cave.
The AI characters are telling you to stay in the water and not to move or the T-Rex will kill
you (make me think about Jurassik Park there lol). The T-Rex will detroy the structures before you and will also sniff your butt but if you stay calm and you don't move, you won't die.

so KK rocks, good now please Ubisoft let Ancel work on the BG&E sequel kthxbye.

I'm fine with that aspect. Honestly, I would have liked it even less if I were able to take out the Rex with the gun (although you'd think a few hundred rounds to the face would at least hurt it or something). I was more referring to the fact that the game trapped you in this little area and forced you to play ring-around-the-rosie with him for what seemed like forever. After the fifth lap or so, it just started to feel silly.

Actually, I was in the water, towards the back of the cave, as I was looking for somewhere to go. The Rex hadn't even broken down the thing blocking the cave yet, and I just randomly died.

Rayman 4 is in works, I hope, he is doing this first, so it isn't going to be as disappointing as Rayman 3.

Ok i get it now. It's gonna be different from people to people i guess. I remember that i though maybe they open the door too slowly in fact. But that optic changed the more i played with the game. Have you tried shooting at him? Made him destroy the small structures? Have killed the pterodactyle-like bats? Those are all things you can experiment while playing "ring-around-the-rosie" ;)

Sound like a bug in the demo or something. If you're in the back, you not supposed to die.
Sorry i didn't test the demo lol. In the final game this does not happen.

I really disliked the game at first. The camera and the control seemed buggy. But then I learned to play with it, and my god, this game is GRAND. There are so many ways to make them open the door, and the tension is so freaking high all the time. I was like : Omg omg, there's a T-Rex on my ass. Open that damn door.

First time I talked to my TV during a game since Tomb Raider on PSOne.

.

Ubisoft knows the problem with the dino. I even think they said something in the lines of that they are toning it down as in making it less aggressive in the 360 version.
