Kingdom Come: Deliverance II ⊰♖|OT|♖⊱ Stop! Or My Henry Will Swing His Sword!

I feel like a crazy person given how much overhype there is for Ex33, but I agree with you, so there are at least two crazies. I just entered act 2 and kinda dread playing 20+ more hours of this. There is no gameplay! It is just walking around boring looking mostly rocky corridors and doing fights with random monsters which, aside from some nice animations, are mechanically super boring. If you are gonna do turnbased, give me Jagged Alliance 3! Or Baldur's Gate 3! This static thing where biggest engagement comes from learning enemy moveset is so boring.

That said, I am a sucker for sunk cost fallacy so I will probably continue. The story (the little that has been there so far) at least somewhat keeps my attention.
But for my money, Ex33 is a 6-7/10 game at best. Maybe the story will blow my socks off later, but nothing can save this gameplay.

Warhorse try to follow history as much as reasonably possible, particularly when it comes to historical characters...Otto dies decade after KCD2 takes place. And personally I do not need every single thing tied in a neat little bow. The ending was super satisfying for me even if not everyone got The Justice. It is like real life.
Scene with Markvart was 10/10, and the scene with Sigismund post-credits was peak comedy.

As for Warhorse making a fantasy game...the thing is, literally every god damn studio and their mom are making fantasy games. KCD is the only historical RPG of its kind. And history is so much more interesting than any made up fantasy....and so much of it is unexplored....
Then back to a 9/10 for me if it's more historically accurate for that. Totally cool.

I would love to see a game set with a character like Musa as well in his part of the world at this time. Could be interesting if they want to continue the more history/simulator approach.

I still think they'd completely destroy if they made a fantasy game. Or WB give them the license to make a lord of the rings game…

About future Warhorse titles... I guess this is something that might be too much to ask but I'd love if they went out of Bohemia and looked at other countries and cultures for their next history-based game. Something like being the sequire of El Cid during the reconquista would be super kino.

Holy shit finally, another crazy fella! Thought for a moment I was the only one lol. I agree with everything you say man, gameplay imo started quite promising but after 20 hours of inflicting burn and mark in every enemy in every fight I just got bored. Plus the story wasn't doing anything for me, and the moment the game struck me with a cutscene in black and white and 4:3 all I could think of was the word "pretentious". The game tries hard, but imo it doesn't have the charm of other JRPGs.

I like JRPGs and I'm used to repetitive gameplay. But for some reason this game didn't stick with me, neither the visuals, art, music, characters nor gameplay.

God this patch fucked the game on ps5 pro. Constant flickering of textures everywhere. I'm glad I was on the last two missions because I wouldn't have played it in this condition until a fix.

I'll do a write up for the game when I can. 120 some hours played. 9/10.

Strange I played last night on the pro and didn't have any of those issues. Wonder if game needs to reinstalled or something. I'm still before the wedding though so maybe this stuff only happens in the later sections.

Didn't the director mention something about viking culture and wanting to do that? I personally think that would be the next best option. We don't really have a good viking game and that AC game isn't good IMO.

Man this weekend is so packed. I want to keep playing this game non-stop then I have Andor that I desperately want to finish. Oh I also have a family that wants me around to.

Finished Brushes with Death DLC and it's nothing outstanding. I'd give a 7/10 and that's just because I smiled at some dialogues and awkward scenes.

All of the quests from this DLC have pretty standard objectives and you don't do anything really interesting or original. Plus forcing people to use alchemy to finish the DLC is a bit of a dick move. ;p

Just bought this off Steam since it was 20 % off.

Combat is a bit jank, but I can already tell there is going to be so much shit to do and consume. Looks very sharp with FSR 4. Too bad there's no raytracing, though.

combat is trash but everything else is 10/10 imho.

Story, characters, world, mechanics. It doesn't get much better than this. The level of freedom you have with consequence is next level.

Yea so much to do. IMO to much really. I had to throw in another game to play on the side cause you can put in 20 hours into this game and feel like you've done nothing. I've sort of just been rushing through the main quest now and only doing side quest that sound interesting.

Got the platinum a while a go. Significantly easier that KCD 1. But I have more of a soft spot for KCD1. Love KCD 2 though. I'm just waiting for all the DLC to release so I can play it all in 1 go. Excited to play KCD 3 in 2030.

I am something like 33 hours in to the game now. Just started the second act. Somehow I thought I would have sunk already like at least 40 hours since I have done side quests, exploring and blacksmithing and everything in between, but I guess not. I might have to slow down.

But, let me just say that this game is such a breath of fresh air amongst all the purple colored high fantasy Dragon Ages and shittily culturally appropriating Assassin's Creeds of the gaming world. It is so mature, but it's not serious. It doesn't try to shove any agendas down your throat. It doesn't try to be something that it's not.

It tells excellent stories by interesting characters. And at the same time it is immensily grounded and relatable. The game's peasants, forests, muddy roads and wooden cabins are much more interesting than Claire Obscur's beautiful but boring corridor like environments in which you have nothing else to do but collect some glowing orbs and fight enemies. And I really, REALLY wanted to like that game (Expedition 33, that is).

Yeah, the combat and movement is still janky. Sometimes I got stuck in stairs for no apparent reason. Once I got launched 20 meters in to the woods while walking on a cliff. It's like you are ice skating in full armor. But it's manageable. I have had a couple sudden deaths in combat and I have zero clue what even happened. There is a reasonable amount of jank with the NPCs too, sometimes they are sitting in air, or T-posing in combat.

With that being said, this has been a solid 9/10 experience so far. You have plenty of varied content that is also high quality. After this I just want to go visit the areas and towns in real life too.

Just finished a game. I have a chance to start this, Clair Obscure: Exp 33 or Commandos Origins.

Which one should I go for?
Haven't heard of Commandos Origins. Would you rather play a grounded historical immersive sim with a great story, or a fantastical French RPG with a great story?

This is the only game I'm playing this year and I haven't played it for 2 months. Having hard time getting back into it, don't want to start over again, I'm like 65 hours deep into the game/story.

Commandos Origins is nostalgia bait for me.

I want to start this but 100 hrs runtime is giving me the pause.
This game took me 127 hours. Clair took me 45 tops.

I would recommend Clair first but keep this in mind:

What releases left this year do you want to buy? July is a fairly open month exactly for a long game like KCD2, because August September and October all have big titles.

If you're limited on time in general then go for clair 33.

Ok, yeah, if you're balking at that 100hrs, I wouldn't do it now. KCD2 is my GOTY and Top 5 of all time, but if I wasn't in the mood for a slower-paced deep-dive like it when I first played it, I wouldn't be rating it so highly.

I'd go with Clair Obscur.

This 100%.
I like Exp33 mostly for its story, but the gameplay and environment is just boring and non-immersive. Which was a bit of a whiplash after KCD2.

That said, I also didn't have the weird issues you describe in the next paragraph. I remember getting stair-stuck in KCD1 couple times, but not in the sequel.

Cool, thanks guys.

I will try Clair Obscure. If it hooks me will continue. This one I have played enough, I know I will at least somewhat enjoy it.

KCD2 is locked in second place for me as far as GOTY goes, with Clair at number 1.

I completed the game, doing 90 per cent of everything in a solid 100 hours, and not once did I ever get bored or lose interest or the likes. The game was absolutely phenomenal and had some of the best laughs in years thanks to the shenanigans and chaos that the game did with its narrative and characters.

What an absolute joy it all was with Henry and the lads.

That's my view too. It's my number two.

It's also the only game past the 50-70 hour make I've played in a decade or two. Never felt bored or wanted to bum rush it.

Man. What a game. I finished the story at about 75 hours with some minor side quests unfinished. But I am happy with the amount of content I got out of the game. Didn't bother to check out every single marker on the maps or hunt the achievements. Maybe I'll leave those to the second playthrough.

The main story really accelerates towards the ending in a pleasant pace. There are so many twists and coats that are being turned, but it doesn't feel far-fetched or campy. The drama is better than in most of the movies nowadays. My only gripe is that the story is somewhat repetitive. There is only so many times you can abuse the "someone gets captured and you then need to find a secret passage in the tunnels to rescue them". But this game does it anyway a couple times in such a manner you can almost predict what is going to happen in the story.

And the characters. They are just awesome. There is actually some character development, the actors sound and act great, and the character models look bad ass. Just look at this:

And, in general, the vibes and graphics are really decent.

A game set in 17th century Netherlands would be cool. Putting French Catholics to the sword, sinking English ships and watching the sailors drown like rats and spreading capitalism to the Asian heathens.

I finally reached the second map after 60 hours. I haven't even gotten to Kuttenberg yet, I can't wait to explore that place.

The game is chock full of content, there is always something to do. The devs really structured the game well, trying to do all the side quests before the wedding actually makes sense, and some of them tie into main quest. Finding Hans before the wedding via a poaching side quest was a surprise for sure, this is the kind of thing that makes the world feel alive.

The writing is excellent and one of the highlights of the game, it's way better than anything that came out this year. People feel like people, the dialogue is natural and it's always interesting to listen to. The story is gripping, lots of stuff going on with many players making their moves in the background.

This is shaping up to be on the best RPGs ever, if it keeps this quality throughout it will be my GOTY by a wide margin.

Yep. Even in english, eventhough the writers are Czech, it sounds incredibly natural/lifelike and all the characters are well defined.
Only Witcher 3 and RDR2 have similar quality of dialogue writing. Well and Disco Elysium, but that mixes natural writing with lot of waxing poetic.

Damn, the second map is huge, probably as big as the KCD1 map by itself. I was not expecting that, that will be another solid 60 hours of gameplay probably.

I did a ride through Kuttenberg and it's beautiful, I get it why they couldn't model every interior. That would have been a gigantic task. Performance is still great even with that density of NPCs, they really cooked with this game on the perf side.

Interesting article about the cinematic cut shown at KVIFF movie festival

Very interesting, thanks.

The cut version can be watched here until July 2027 https://kviff.tv/catalog/kingdom-come-deliverance-ii-cinematic-cut (costing c. $6)
