Klonoa 2 rocks!

Wow. I couldn't find this game for sale in my town so I just decided to rent it. This game is awesome. Colorful graphics, interesting platforming, cool music. Beats the heck out of Viewtiful Joe in my book, and feels kind of like DK Jungle Beat in a few respects.

:)

After unsuccessfully attempting to procure Klonoa 1, I decided to snag a copy of 2 off Ebay last summer. Man was it awesome. I played the absolute crap out of it for days, I never did get all the bells though. Loved the hoverboard levels. What's funny is that looking at the screens, it didn't really look much like a game I would enjoy, but I'm glad I got it.

Not to derail, but opinions on part 1 in this thread would be appreciated by me, as I have never played it.

BTW Speev, are you glad you went for the PS2? You MUST buy Shadow of the Colossus.

hell yeah... the sense of height in this game is spectacular.

Absolutely. The PS2 is a great system. Plenty of ugly visuals sure, and the looming thought that the thing may crap out on me, but its game library is something I am looking forward to trying fully.

And yes, I am getting Shadow of the Collossus. Beat ICO 3 times already.

For more platforming goodness, march onwards to Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando.

To be incredibly honest, I find this game slightly overrated. I mean, I bought it for 10$ so it's not like I was ripped off or anything, but with the hype Klonoa gets from GAF I thought it would be a godsend or something. It's not even in my Top 5 for Platformers this gen.

It's really hard to place this game. I'm thinking Kirby meets Sonic meets I dunno, but I like it. The game's story is very weird, though.

I kind of agree. There haven't been a lot of really great platformers, though. I like a lot of the gameplay but something about the surrounding presentation is kinda corny and soulless. Corny in a not so good way.

Klonoa 2 is an awesome game. Not my favorite platformer this generation but definitely close. Really fun game. This reminds me I still have to pick up the second GBA game.

I can name a few I like more, but not many. And it's certainly the best linear platformer this generation.

Looking forward to the upcoming Kirby 2.5D platformer for the 'Cube.

I'm going to disagree with people and say that Klonoa 2 is better.

But 1 is still a fine, fine game.

C'mon Namco. Klonoa 3 as one of your last games on the PS2 to make full use out of it. Pleeeeeeaaase.

Great, great game. I rented it ages ago but could never find a copy to buy, until last week, I am now a more complete soul.

peoples:
rent it at blockbuster (they seem t carry the game, still) and wait until the game is overdue, then BUY THE DAMN THING

I've played Klonoa 2 through (and got some of the bonus stuff), but sadly it was on a rental, and I waited to buy it because Namco promised that the GCN would receive a port with some enhancements, such as a completely stable framerate and all that... Wish they had made good on that. So I need to pick up the PS2 version some time, because I miss it. :P

But yeah, excellent game with some nice moments in terms of plot (kind of nice that the ending was
a bit bittersweet, somewhat like Kingdom Hearts was later on
), very good graphics and scenarios for the time (it is a 2001 or so game, so comparing it to Ratchet and Clank 2 or 3 is quite a bit unfair), and I just dug the charm of it. There's some extra buttons the game didn't need, so they included two "trick" buttons that work almost anywhere in the game that you can play (often with different results), and they're literally just there to entertain you while you wait or are in the middle of something, but there's no way you can be screwed up by fiddling with them. That's just a charming touch you've gotta dig, since they packed in extra animations just to make the player could stay amused.

I wonder why that Namco PS2 collection of early PSX games (Tekken, Klonoa, I think Ridge Racer and some others) hasn't come out in the US (or at all?) yet... Maybe SCEA's holding them back, ugh. :/ I just want to play Klonoa 1 for the PSX, so if Namco actually went back and did port both 1 and 2 to Cube or Xbox as a dualpack or something, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

In this case I will agree with you...not like with PsychoNauts. Klonoa 2 is quite probably the best platfforming game this gen :) Nice, fun andwith a great soundtrack !
