DAFFY DEUS EGGS
I've just been bought an Xbox as an hilarous leaving present, since I'm a Sony whore.

I already own JSRF, GunvalkIHATEYOU, Outrun2, Panzer Orta, Powerdrome and DOAX.

As a general rule I don't like sports games, driving games, firstperson shooters or BioWare RPGs. Any suggestions for more gotta-have-it titles?

Oh, and does anyone know if the load times on the PC version of Thief: DS are shorter than the Xbox version's? If they're not, I've played through it twice on Xbox so I can probably suffer it again.

Thankyew.

Ninja Gaiden
Crimson Skies
Morrowind
Dino Crisis 3 (I mean it, is an excellent game if you can stand the camera)

ninja gaiden
psychonauts
splinter cell: chaos theory
phantom dust
kingdom under fire
otogi 1/2

I have a suggestion...YOU SUCK.

Played Metal Arms? Get that. Ninja Gaiden (might be worth waiting for NG Black, if you think you are good).

Your stupid criteria cut a lot of the other best games out, try Kingdom Under Fire, if you can find it..err Crimson Skies, Strangers Wrath is decent.

The writing, editing, story structure, characters or A/B moral branching. I'm trying really hard not to buy Jade Empire, because it annoyed the hell out of me the last time I played it, but it's full of haloed lanterns, bloom lighting and sunsets, which are some of my favourite things.

I was fine with the framerate, but the load times get a bit jarring in the last quarter of the game, yeah. But I liked the Xbox pad control more than WASD.

Yes. I'm not convinced I'd ever play it again, but I did really enjoy it - ditto KUF: Crusaders, but I'm thinking of waiting for Heroes.

Hey, I think you'll find their stupid criteria cut a lot of the other best games out.

I don't like Ninja Gaiden either, although I was tempted to get it again just to not like it some more. And to wish I could play the game as Ayame, obv.

Okay, before the Cockles Front For The Promotion Of Enclave gets here, what's your opinion on what Enclave has going for it? I've tried to like it through four incarnations of the game since 1998, but it just never grabbed me in the way a gorgeous dark fantasy action game should have, and my standards are pretty fucking low where they're concerned.

I'd wait for NG Black anyway because if you find out you're NOT good, it has an easy mode.

My reccomendations

NG Black
Psychonauts
Splinter Cell : Chaos Theory
Chronicles of Riddick (i know what you said about first person shooters, but this game is just....different)
Fable (i actually enjoyed this, even though it wasn't nearly everything that was promised)

Dunno, I just thought it was a fun little hack n' slash with interesting campaigns, good challenge and great visuals. I was pretty excited for the whole Enclave 2 co-op gig before Starbreeze canned it for Riddick or whatever. I hated Riddick too, the progression was interesting, and the quest-based nature was very cool, but it had the worst FPS combat ever. =/

Psychonauts, Psychonauts, and Psychonauts.

PS: Psychonauts.

I completly agree 100% with this post!

I got the PC version of Psychonauts, back when I thought I could rely on Microsoft either cutting loose or cancelling every exclusive Xbox title I was really interested in.

So I'm sold on Dino Crisis 3 (I know, I know) and Riddick thus far. I've been told at gunpoint to get Chaos Theory before, but I'm not big on the whole Splinter Cell thing, even though I know CT is pretty much as good as stealth action gets.

I don't want to risk playing Fable again just in case I lose all my happy thoughts about it, but it's tempting. Damn tempting. Maybe I'll wait for the Lost Chapters.

edit:

NOOOOOO

Anyway, it can't have worse combat than Breakdown. Oh hey, Breakdown! Cha-ching.

I'm getting it chipped next week for that Xbox ST emulator.

Oh, wow, what a really outstandingly brilliant idea. Kudos.

Anyway, there's a disgusting lack of Armed & Dangerous and Metal Wolf Chaos love going on in this thread, and I'm here to remedy that.

Raze's Hell is worth the budget price, too, and even if you've already rocked it on PS2, you should rock Whiplash again with that added power of X.

Breakdown has some of the best direction ever.

Too bad about the atrocious combat.

Still worth finishing once.

I knew I should have put "like Brandonnn told me to," but a) I thought you'd take it as read and b) holy shit aren't we just too cliquey to live. Midwinter forever.

Armed & Dangerous

PC'd it.

Raze's Hell is worth the budget price, too, and even if you've already rocked it on PS2, you should rock Whiplash again with that added power of X.

I CRAVE X-CLUSIVES, DAMN YOU

Yeah, but in the 3rd line of your first post you instantly negated 98% of X-CLUSIVES -- I'm doing the best I can!! :(

And his second line covered about 1.5% of the others

Metal Slug 3 (and keep an eye peeled for 4+5 in a few months), House of the Dead 3 (that's not an FPS!) and Ninja Gaiden (although I'd wait for NG: Black).

Definitely check out Psychonauts and Ninja Gaiden (or wait for NGBlack). You might also want to try Fable, Phantom Dust, and the Otogi games.

Ummm, you're playing the wrong system :P

You can give Ninja Gaiden a try. Amazing graphics (probably the best on the system), but make sure to download the Hurricane Pack (camera angles suck in the default version, it's nice being able to move it around), and be prepared for a challenge!

The person who said Fable, I wouldn't listen to him. Bioware makes those style of games (free roaming/moral structure type games) much better than Fable.

I liked Jade Empire, though I prefer Japanese style RPGs to Western ones. It's worth a try if you can get over the fact the combat is terrible. Xbox has absolutely no Japanese RPGs though so me and you both are fucked in that regard.

If you like 2D fighters, SF:AC and Guilty Gear X2#Reload are awesome games and a lot of fun on Live.

Oh yeah, you might wanna get Shenmue II if you're a SEGA fan (which it sounds like). I haven't played it yet but I really liked the original Shenmue back in the DC era.

Psychonauts and Ninja Gaiden are great.

What is the GAF consensus on Kingdom Under Fire? I'm tempted to try it since I like Dynasty Warriors and RTS games.

Haha. Damn you!

But throw in the Cockles Front for the Promotion of Buffy as well. :lol

Its like a combination of Dragon Force and Dynasty Warriors. An amazing game IMO, there is nothing else out there like it.

Any suggestions for more gotta-have-it titles?

Any number of superior xbox versions of 3rd party games. Assuming you dont allready own them for ps2.

The only online Street Fighter : Anniversary Collection :)

Alongside the only online GGX2 #Reload...

Also Phantom Crash, Buffy, the Fatal Frame series (not exclusive but the Xbox versions are the best in both visuals/content) and any of the emulated software packs (beter framerate/sound and controls IMO)

Razer's hell isn't on PS2 AFAIK

Are you basing your hate of Bioware RPGs on the xbox games (KOTOR, Jade Empire) or just on previous Bioware experience? Because I absolutely despise Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate, but I love KOTOR and to a lesser extent Jade Empire. Could just be because I like Star Wars thought.

edit: NM, I read your clarification and see that its based on the xbox style

Bigfonzie:
Is shenmue 2 a good game?
Shenmue is like an interactive novel where the story's settings and characters are fleshed out into a working community so that the user can explore them as much as they want at any point along the progression. The level of detail is exhaustive, the game's fighting action plays a lot like Virtua Fighter in a 3D beat-em-up, and the journey is memorable.

When you get as many mentions of Psychonaut and Riddick as indicated in this thread, some thing in the Force should nudge you to get these games. Because they're fucking awesome.

Now go get them.

Oh and hit up some of that Morrowind GAME OF THE YEAR EDITION. Settle for nothing less or you and your XBox will regret it.
