Koei E3 Lineup Revealed (PS3 not playable)

Koei E3 Lineup

- Unknown Title (PlayStation3): Video only
- Gladiator: Road to the Freedom (PlayStation2): playable
- Dynasty Warriors (Shin Sangoku Musou (Nintendo DS): video only
- Romance of the Three Kingdoms X (San Goku Shi X) (PlayStation2): playable

http://www.gamefront.de

So it looks like PS3 won't be playable this year and we have to wait till TGS.

Do they (Koei) say Playstation 3, or is that a Gamefront paraphrase? I'm just wondering whether the official line is PS3 or 'next generation sony platform' blah.

Exactly. This year is all about the PSTwo, which has a very solid lineup of games coming and should have a fantastic sales run this year, especially if they drop to $99 for the holidays (which I'd bet on happening).

PS3 will be shown to try and deflate the 360 hype a bit, but that's all. I'd even wager that if there was no 360, the PS3 would barely even have a presence at all.

It seem that Koei is not supporting X360 and this xbox, where is my port of DW5 for xbox?
So far they have ported to xbox:
-DW3, DW4, SW.

DW Advance should be there too (it's already been confirmed by Koei USA) as well a Nobunga Online (PC only). I'm guessing Oni will be their PS3 trailer but I'm a little surprised they haven't confirmed anything for Xbox 360? I'm guessing DW5 won't be making it to Xbox either?

I know some people really want to see DW on PS3 at E3, but I'd say that the PS3 title they're showing at E3 has got to be Oni?

That can't be the whole lineup. I hope not. Dynasty Warriors GBA needs to be there. The trailer will more than likley be Oni.

And Gladiator: Road to Rome? Isn't that a Capcom game?

Yep. Just enough PS3 to show that MS doesn't have it all to themselves, then a little more closer to Xbox 360 launch.

MS: "Hey look, we have this fantastic machine with amazing graphics"

Joe Public: "Wow, that looks great"

MS: "Yes, and support from major publishers like EA. Look at this Madden game"

JP: "Double wow. I gotta get me one of these, my PS2 looks like shit compared to this"

Sony: "Psst kid - look at this VHS - we gots one of them next-gen thingummies coming out real soon too"

JP:" Oh, OK, I'll wait for yours for no other reason than its called the same as my current machine. Sony won't let me down"

THE END.

I expect to see some interactive demos at least. Why not? Final hardware is not the pre-requsite for interactive presentations. That held true for every console so far, and will for Xbox 360 also.

I'm sure there'll be interactive demos, but only for the Sony man doing the presentation ;) There could still be some interactive demos for others (Koei not having one doesn' mean Sony or others won't)..but I wouldn't expect them.

sucks! Does anyone know anything about Oni? Is it futuristic or set in Ancient Japan? Is it a hack & slash game?

Set in 16th century warring Japan - main character is a blonde-haired Samurai (apparently of western origin - shades of The Last Samurai?). The guy heading it up claims the graphics will look as good as the movie (yeah, right ;)).

I think its better to not show anything playable.

With video demos you can give them that "video demo gloss" that always looks better than what the actual product ends up looking like (usually). Yeah it may be "cheating", but there's no sportsmanlike trophy in the game industry (if there was, Sega would've been bashed over the head with it for "Blast Processing").

And people at E3 tend to react moreso to trailers -- look at MGS2 (greatest game ever made says GameSpot after watching the trailer) or the Zelda trailer last year.

I hope Koei has a nice surprise for Xbox 360 buyers at E3. There hasn't been a new Samurai Warriors game in awhile. Maybe they could surprise us by releasing Samurai Warriors 2 at Xbox 360 launch.

the ps2's e3 debut featured that playable gran turismo demo. i wouldn't be surprised to see something like that. but it's not going to be all over the show floor.

Why exactly are we assuming the PS3 won't be playable because Koei is only showing a video? I'm not getting my hopes up for anything, but this hardly confirmation of anything.

Yeah maybe Koei can hand off development to EA and we can have 5 guys on screen at once.
You are talking about the LOTR games? There were scenes with easily around 20 guys on the screen, and they all animated more lively than in DW games. LOTR games just looked better than any DW game, there's hardly a question about it.

Yeah and the scope is miniscule in comparison. That is my point in my little jab back at Doom Bringer. :P It's easy to make a better looking game when compact it down into a tighter, smaller space with fixed angles dictated by the game.

Didn't the LOTR games also go at half the framerate of the DW games? So shouldn't it be expected that they look better than the DW games (if you ignore framerate)?

Just watched the Gladiator video...this game looks bad ass!

Knocking off helmets, shields armor. Different attack styles. Having different types of Gladiator battles. The parappa style training modes. Special abilities. Upgrading your character stats. This game has jumped onto my radar fast! When is the release?

July 12. :) I need to start a thread about it soon, because nobody knows about it and it's going to end up going under the radar at this rate. Hopefully Koei will plug the hell out of it come E3.

The first picture that was released from the press conference was too small. Now you can see that the game is set in feudal Japan or maybe the presence of samurais implies that it's being developed by Koei. lol
Info about the game and Koei @ E3. Looks like another PS2 title will be revealed:

As for corporation コーエー, game-related trade Shaw "Electronic Entertainment Expo 2005 who with American Los Angeles Los Angeles Convention Center is held from May 18th (E3)" the exhibition contents in were released. Already in Japan most the fact that it is attention probably is the next generation place t Shaun's image exhibition excluding those of the sale being completed. Title undecided and we have become sale day undecided, is only image exhibition, but it is the place where attention focuses. In 2004 October コーエー "the ogre (the tentative name)" has made that it produces clear as the game for next generation place t Shaun's, but whether or not the image which is released with latest E3 that "ogre (the tentative name)" it is not understood. But, because you can call with the point, next generation place t Shaun's image, one of the quickest open image, it is the pleasure very. With the other things, besides the fact that the new work title "title undecided" of place t Shaun 2 is exhibited image, the Xbox edition "Dynasty Warriors 5 where sale of 2005 summer is planned in Japan and America (truth three 國 hit and miss 4)", sale undecided for ニンテンドー DS of attention "Dynasty Warriors DS (truth three 國 hit and miss (temporary))" and so on is only image whether it becomes some kind of interface, but it is released. Is the place where the place, principal title only image a little is regrettable, but (as for プレイアブルデモ, the schedule where those which have been sold already in Japan are center), even then as for up-to-date image of the game which becomes matter of concern being released it is pleasant everyone place. Being to be the schedule which it keeps reporting even with GAME Watch we want observing these E3 reports. Home page of □コーエー

No Gitaroo-Man sequel? :(

Sorry to bring you bad news:

Product Manager of Koei, Kenichi Matsumoto, about a sequel: "Everyone thinks [Gitaroo Man] it´s amazing. But there weren´t enough copies sold in the UK, and the rhytm-action genre rarely sell, regardless of critical praise. It´s a big problem. The producer now works producing strategy guides and game soundtracks at Koei. I think the game would work really well on DS, but there are no future plans at all for the series, sadly"

About Oni, today I have been speaking with the distributor of Koei games and they told me they hadn´t Oni listed for E3. However, taking on count this is Spain, who knows? for some reason IGN has it listed on it E3 list.

I'm pretty sure it's a lock to be shown at E3 at this stage. The report in Doom Bringer's post confirms it, and afterall, it was one of the first PS3 titles to ever be announced (in fact, I believe it's the only title to have been officially announced).

Yes, yes, I know, but I just wanted to give the info I had. Maybe Koei are not interested in show Oni to spanish media (not for being spanish, but for being unimportant), or they forgot, or they are just going to show it at the preshow, who knows. God knows we are not in the premier league afterall.

Hope to have a chance in Sony preshow.

It's nice to see people like you make informed decisions about the quality of games BEFORE ANYTHING ABOUT THEM HAS BEEN REVEALED.

Actually, some info has been revealed.

The DS version will be 2D and have chibi style characters in them. It may not suck (I hope not!) but it'll be tough for it to match the glory of the console or PSP version (My favorite version amazingly).

I'm really not looking forward to a Koei PS3 demo. I still don't think they're worth a damn on the PS2. Kessen was a great demo back for the PS2, but it turned out those cutscenes were mostly prerendered. So I don't see the point. I don't think their coders are that good, and I look forward to another GT demo from PD and hopefully some Squeenic teaser stuff. Koei is a middle-of-the-road dev IMO *runs*. PEACE.
