Koei Tecmo: ‘Switch 2 Is Closer to the Series S Than PS4’

You DO realize it just came out, right? Like last week. Wait for the next Direct.

You and the other nintendo fans literally crufixed DF for weeks and I'm not even a fan of them, there are other sources who reported the same stuff, it's not reliable just the source who said what you want to hear. The same tecmo developer admitted it's just a personal opinion with the word "I think".

DF was speaking out of their ass without having the console.

And now that they have it, they definitely changed their tune going by their latest video on CP2077.

But in any case, I put more faith in the words of actual developers than YouTube pixel counters.

What some people here don't get is exactly that, they were going against all leaks with the "iT's BeCaUsE nInTeNdO" mentality regarding the hardware that I don't get, of course the Switch 2 was always this powerful and it's as much as many posters were saying it would be just based on numbers.

Not as powerful as XSS but close enough in terms of GPU with weaker CPU that's still way above last gen, what we didn't think would happen is that Switch 2 IQ is better basically all the time, so if a game runs at the same frame rate in both I think they'd trade blows (XSS would have some better graphical features while Switch 2 would have better IQ)

Devs don't write separate "rendering engines" for PS4 vs PS5 versions of games, lol.
When a game is being made for PS5 then there's no way of making it work properly on PS4 without making huge engine changes (and content as well but that's a different matter).
If it's a PS4 game then sure, just up that resolution and you're done.

As someone who spent most of my gaming life on Playstation, and finished very few Nintendo titles, IMO, Zelda: BotW at 60fps on Switch 2 looks far more visually pleasant than 95% of stuff I've seen on PS4, and even PS5.
Difference between a lovely/ timeless art style vs raw technical analysis. Which is fine 🤷‍♂️.

Technically BotW was a mess, it was a juttery mess with extremely low-res textures. But the game itself is so exceptional it certainly gets away with all that in a way that very few games ever could.

I'm glad that after 8 years we'll be able to experience in a way where it is no longer limited or knee-capped in any way by the platform it's on.

Examples of this? The vast majority of cross-gen games are not made for PS5 and then downported to PS4, they're made for both at the same time with the PS4 version as the baseline.

Examples of what?
IJ can't run on a PS4 because it doesn't have a non-RT lighting solution which if the game were to be ported to PS4 has to be created from scratch.
Same goes for SM2 where you'll need to create some way to stream the data so that PS4 would be able to handle it.
Basically any game which is made for new h/w won't be able to run on the previous gen without significant engineering efforts.
With Sw2 this is easier as it supports all the same features so in most cases a game from PS5/XS can be ran on it by just lowering the in-game/in-engine LODs and turning off some settings.
Remains to be seem though how well Sw2 will be able to handle stuff like RTGI.

So your examples in a discussion about what it takes to make a PS5 game also run on PS4 are games that aren't on PS4 at all? Obviously there are games that couldn't run on PS4 at all without completely changing them, but that's not generally the case with games that are on both consoles.

(I don't know what IJ is though. Indy?)

they haven't changed their tune even 1 bit. they have said the exact same thing about the game ever since it was first shown

Indy. Guess why they aren't on PS4 at all.

Because, yes, doing so would require changing them greatly. The PS4 couldn't run SM2 at all with those traversal speeds, they maxed out what the HDD could do with the first game.

But that doesn't mean every cross-gen game (which these are not) require total engine rewrites per platform. That is not what usually happens. It's the same engine, just with lower settings on PS4.

It is not. It's the same engine but with higher settings on PS5. When you have a PS5 engine porting it to PS4 requires significant engineering effort. Which is what I'm saying.

Yeah, and how often have we seen that happen? Hogwarts I guess. But that's not a rewritten engine either, they just split the world up into separate chunks and lowered the detail level of everything.
