Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

The castle basement is where a stretch goal is according to the achievements list, my guess is the final stretch goal/achievement unlock will be something like 4 million + "make a 2nd version of game on UE3 for WiiU/3DS/Vita/360/PS3 etc"

I honestly hope that it isn't, even if it is hinted at being that. Even knowing that the game will be ported to another engine may limit what they do with certain things to make sure it will also work on the ported version. Just target PS4 and Xbone, and then see what systems are out when the game comes out in two years imo.

I agree, especially if everyone who pledged up to that point is likely pledging for the listed platforms, so it wouldn't be fair to use that money to spend time and resources on a different/new platform that wasn't there to begin with.

If it's in the Stretch goals then they planned for the port.

If they reach the amount needed then there should be no reason why others can't enjoy an Igavania game on their system.

I know we all want it now and want it to be the best it can be, but we can't be selfish either. Port begging sucks so releasing on all platforms makes everyone happy.
Imagine if it was coming out for mobile only or PC only, and the stretch goal was for home consoles. I'd bet you'd want to reach the console port then.

Hmm, no idea how to interpret that, really.

I think pretty much any Wii U option is sort of unreasonable, from a technical or production standpoint?

So unless Epic is secretly working on a Wii U version of UE4, I really have no idea what to expect from that.

damn, classic mode for tank/belmont vania fans sounds amazing, cannot wait to see how that pans out. no idea what they'd have beyond that.

Is the release date set so far currently to give them a safety margin ?

I'm wondering if the odds of a release next year is plausible.
Iga won't be working full time on this. He hasn't left his position at the mobile company he went after Konami. In one of the interviews it was mentioned that Iga did not want to start a new studio, he just wanted to make games and literally create something to later reuse and iterate like his previous Castlevania games.

From the FAQ

What about Nintendo and/or handhelds?

"Our budget left us with two options: Build the biggest, most beautiful game we can, or make sure it runs everywhere from the start. As things stand today, we can't afford to create the two separate versions of this game that would be necessary to make it run on every console. That said, we've heard legends about a remarkable treasure hidden in the castle basement..."

The last sentence is the real mystery, especially since they could have just outright said NO. So no Wii-U goal has been confirmed but the language leaves room for speculation.

No Wii U version, but an Amiibo that will unlock costumes in MK8 and Smash Bros.

Honestly it's hard to say without knowing loads of stuff about Wii U, UE4 and, last but not least, Bloodstained. Given that there's a UE4 build for mobile, a quick-and-dirty-yet-good-enough-for-some-games build for Wii U could end up taking a manageable time. It's a different story if Bls will push the engine.

I think expecting a Japanese dev to write a new renderer for UE4 is completely insane, more or less.

Is that what it is? Because if so yeeessssssssss.

EDIT: YEEESSSSSSSS

Releasing something on every platform can cause unneeded comprises in design and doesn't make me happy. I mean even recently we have had characters scrapped from Smash Bros because they would have been too hard to make work on the 3ds. This isn't me raging against the underpowered WiiU, I love the WiiU, it's seeing that they are targeting more powerful systems, using a powerful engine, and not wanting to see the game designed and held back by a different lowest common denominator. Now if their plan is to make the best game they can on UE4 without ever caring about what would or would not work on other systems, then let some other dev group take care of a port, that's fine. Got to also remember how far off 2 years is. Maybe UE4 will be working on WiiU by then, or maybe the next Nintendo system will be out. I would also rather them not make promises about a version of the game that may not even be relevant when the game is going to be released.

Also that wouldn't be a very safe bet. If it was a mobile exclusive I wouldn't even be in this thread/care about what the game is. As for PC, one of the last really great metroidvania's that I played was a pc exclusive (think it was later ported to tablets) so I wouldn't mind that either.

If your "concern" is a compromised product, there is still the possibility to simply hire an external studio that ports the game after the project is completed.

I'm assuming that the WiiU will not be a going concern in 2017. NX is probably a Fall 2016 release, and assuming it runs even modest tech (PS4 equivalent hardware shouldn't be too much to ask 3 years later, is it), UE4 will run on it, and then porting it becomes a trivial matter.

Speculation based on thin air.

Is it wrong for me to want the gaming media to update the public on this stretch goal so we can achieve it faster.

Not wrong at all. This is turning into a dream game for Castlevania fans of all kinds. We get both eras of Castlevania in a single game? I needed this like yesterday!

I'm hoping they don't overpromise because of how damn fast they got funded. They sound like they're scrambling for stretch goals.

What I want out of this is a full-fledged, modern, console Igavania with a full budget. Not an XBLA/PSN release, but a competitive console game.

That hasn't happened since SOTN, and it could be amazing.

I don't know if Id say they're scrambling for stretch goals. Sure, the overwhelming support was a surprise, but reading their last KS update and the whole achievement thing kinda shows that they had the goals planned all along.

Maybe they had planned to reveal them 3 weeks after the campaign started not 2 days.

We know for sure there are a plural amount of stretch goals "in the castle basement."

Based on off-hand comments from streamers and the FAQ, there seems to be at least a Wii U stetch goal and also possibly Vita. They may be the same goal, since they would both require porting to an engine that would be compatible with them both.

And the fact that they are planned stretch goals shows that they have always been part of the plan.

I assume any other port will be farmed out. I hope it's farmed out and that they give no fucks about compromising the real game for lesser hardware, at least.

How does the physical version of the Steam copy work?

You'll receive one Steam key along with a disc that contains the game data so that you won't have to download it. (Because it's a regular Steam key, of course, you'll be able to download it instead if you prefer.) Physical + Digital backers who chose to get both on Steam will get two Steam keys along with the preload disc.

I wish it was drm-free. Kinda makes me wanna cancel my $300 pledge and go to the $60 pledge... kinda :p

They specifically say in the FAQ that no other platforms are part of the main development because they don't want anything to hinder their primary vision. So I wouldn't be concerned. The ports, if funded, would be done after the fact and the primary development would not be affected or compromised in any way.

UE4 support isn't strictly a performance issue. Epic doesn't care about the WiiU and don't want to put the resources into porting UE4 to it. We have no idea when NX would happen and if Epic gives enough shits about it to port unreal to it.

worthless excuses and thin veiled bs. If your "concern" is a compromised product, there is still the possibility to simply hire an external studio that ports the game after the project is completed.

Am I drunk or something? I could have sworn that that was exactly what I said I would be okay with. And I really don't know what I would have been making excuses for.

It is an odd choice. On the other hand the PC version's physical box looks better in the mock up. The full cover being the picture without a console logo taking part of it I mean. At least with that $300 tier you will be getting a combo of both a physical and digital version. Even with the better looking box I am going to have a hard time picking that for pc when you are effectively getting a box for a digital version.

If your favorite developer's only option was to make an indie game and said indie game was not on the system you owned, I bet you would care just a little. Especially if there was some small hope it may come to your console.

I do get what your saying about wanting to have the best version possible, but that shouldn't prevent others from at least getting a port to their system.

When an experienced dev asks for money to make another console version, then I'm going to lean toward it not being as big a hurdle as it may be for an inexperienced or smaller dev team.

This is pretty much why I avoid buying physical versions of PC games. At the end of the day, the game is tied to a CD key and once the key has been used, the disc itself is pretty much useless for anyone else other than the owner.

All speculation. We don't even know what type of format NX even is.

Holy shit. Classic Mode sounds amazing.

Hopefully they'll add that classic mode as part of the castle. A part that you can only access from one side and exit from the other and by magic forces you cannot access your equipment or additional exp.

Anyway it still sounds awesome.

Waiting on the sprite based 3DS version stretch goal. Where Igavania belongs.
You've had 6 portable Igavanias already. Let us have our home console one since the last time we had one it was 1997.

Also I wouldn't hold my breath on a sprite based remake of this game just for 3DS.

It's also why of all PC games the only one I want to buy physically in the near future is Witcher 3. Reasonably sure the game will be DRM free, at worst being tied down to some way in GOG, and they've been good about physical goods in the past. Though I haven't paid the closest attention to how good they'll be with 3 compared with 2, it SEEMS the console versions are in a box but they could well be more basic packages.

EDIT; Eh, seems solid... though I'd probably buy PS4 when convenient because the last two times I got the games on PC they ate them alive. Even if I probably just need a new video card this time it's not something I really feel like dealing with barring something crazy like winning the lottery.

Exactly what I think as well.

just hope music doesn't stop on the map/menu screen. If there was one thing wrong with SotN...

They could do something similar to Muramasa with the map going over the screen without freezing the action. Make it kind of transparent, so you can pull it up on the fly without having to stop what you are doing. I'm sure not everyone would like that though, but I think it would be a neat option.

No matter what they do for the map, I do agree that the music needs to not stop for it though.

Is it selfish to not care if this game gets a wiiu port? It's coming in 2017, won't the NX be out sometime shortly after that? Not to mention a port like that would probably come out delayed from the initial release. I'd rather see that time go in to making a better game, maybe with a deluxe release for nx launch or something like that.
