I believe it was Kutaragi who said that most kids today grew up with Playstation, and not Nintendo.
 
i too am very curious about how big google is.

do they have any plans to make an OS? aside from potentially making an OS one day, why are they a threat to MS? just because of their popularity?

im always reading articles about MS here and there, and google is always brought up as one of the biggest threats.

so what's the deal?

My point was that he made a specific point to call out Nintendo. That would seem to indicate that he doesn't like Nintendo. Most gamers (heck, you'll scarcely find one on this board) did not start gaming with the Playstation. Children (those born at a point where the Playstation started taking off) do not comprise the majority of the gaming public.

If a kid was 5(the age I started gaming) when the PSX first came out he would be 15 by now. Do the math.

Haha ski free kicked ass. Wouldn't it be cool if Google ever does release an OS if they released a version on PS3? I know Kutaragi would like an OS on the system and if Google ever really did release an OS one of the next biggest Microsoft competitors is Sony with the gaming market. That would be interesting if that happened. Far fetched, but maybe not as much as we think.

It's not really Google MS fears but rather how they're snapping up talented programmers and the like.

It seems like working for google is a lot more inviting and and laid back than working for MS.
 
Mark my words, I'm gonna "kill" Miyamoto, Naka and Kojima with one stone and be recognized as the best game developer out there, of all time.

If the reference is in "kids today grew up with Playstation" than I can't see how that's far off. Playstation is a decade old now and if you were a kid then and 10 years have passed then it still rings true.
 
Yeah, I never said he was incorrect. I thought Gek meant to counter what I said about starting gaming with the Playstation.

That will be the case eventually.

Thats just he minimum age I estimated that a person might start gaming. They would be 20 years old if they started when they were 10. What is the average age of the gamer now? 15-25?
 
I'm 22, so by that logic I (and everyone I knew) could have started gaming with the Playstation. My first console was an NES.

Actually he did think it and he actually did it too. Their plan was to always have a 10 year lifecycle which would sell more than 50 million consoles.

Google is looking to move desktop applications onto the Web, starting with distributing StarOffice for free.

That is a real threat to Microsoft, unlike this dude.
 
Wow both those commercials aren't too hot.

The first one with the jump rope skipping is terrible.

The PGR3 is better but it didn't really trip my trigger as a consumer. You can easily tell what is real and what is in game.

If thats true then yeah thats very huge. Imagine being able to get Star Office (or Open Office) for free (or a fee to download) as opposed to having to get a updated version of Office 2003 which would set you back $100+.

Can't wait to see this system implimented.

Knowing Bernie Stolar, and a few people on this forum do, it is quite likely he completely fabricated that story. I am surprised he even remembers where he used to work.

Bullshit, the damn country played that Pepsi promotion, trust me, they know what the Xbox 360 is. Why do they really need to advertise now. All launch units will sell out first day. That's when they sell them

Oh I know that but i'm talking about a easy system that Google can impliment that would be able to show and deliver OpenOffice to the masses. Other software to. It would be cool if they did Linux OSs to :D

I just direct people to www.DistroWatch.com. But the uninformed would have google :)

Interesting, I've heard they are also supporting, both financially and with research talent, Open Office with the aims of making it more user friendly, appealing and less resource intensive.

And Sony could very well hurt Microsoft, it was Gabe Newell who stated back in 2000 (I believe) that the thought of a PlayStation2 with an LCD screen and Timewarner|AOL running on it supported by advertising revenues scared the shit out of Intel's Andy Grove and MS's Ballmer and Gates.

Not for the common perception that the PlayStation Platform will use another OS to compete against Windows and run Windows or Linux programs, that's just stupid, but that PlayStation3 will offer enough functionality that using a PC for the vast majority of normal people's tasks becomes unnecessary.
