Holy! Fight overload. I'm dling all the fights in this thread right now. Especially Nog vs. Fedor and the Saku ones. Sapp vs. CroCop would also be interesitng to watch, I'm thinking CroCop will tear him apart. I would'nt mind Saku vs. Gracie if your up to uploading it. :)

Thanks btw.
Oh man, you are gonna fucking love Sapp vs. CroCop.
Also, only watch Saku vs. Royce when you're in a good mindset for a fight. This is a long one and it is insanely rewarding if you watch the entire thing.
I probably won't be done uploading until sometime tomorrow. I'll post the the links when I wake up.

Saku versus Royce is one of my favorite fights of all time. I wasn't bored once. Saku is like a machine. He had a technique for everything Royce could throw at him.

Just watched Sapp vs. Crocop.. Can't beleive that punch took down that huge man. Wow. Why were they wearing boxing gloves though, is K1 only standup? The boxing gloves are kinda weaksauce.

The Saku vs. Rampage and Sapp vs. Crocop are the same links. Heh might wanna fix that?

Umm, K-1 is kickboxing, therefore boxing gloves. :p

Yeah, I personally think saku/royce is one of the best performances ever. Tearing down the legend like that, almost flawlessly, and then fighting Igor Vov to a draw for *15 minutes* that same night (in primarily a stand-up fight)? Crazy.

vs. Randleman until he pulled off the armbar, and Saku vs. Schembri II.

Agreed on both counts.

I, too, really liked his match with Royce. Even though I have the commercial DVD release, I'm probably going to download this one anyway. On a fluke, I found the DVD at Wherehouse Music used for $11.99. I'd been looking for it for months and was overjoyed to have finally found it. This joy ended once I noticed the scratches on the disc that prevented me from seeing about 15 minutes of the fight about 3/4ths of the way in. I swear, I invested an hour and a half in it and was unable to see the entire thing. That was certainly frustrating.

Saku vs. Rampage was good. That Jackson dude seeme dot have waste all his strength slamming Saku.

do any of you have sites where it shows all the different submissions in MMA and how to apply them?

bjj.org has a walkthrough of a bunch of Brazilian Jiujitsu submissions. subfighter.com also has a bunch.

Saku vs. Royce still isn't uploaded. If its not finished by tomorrow morning, I'll restart the upload.

If you haven't noticed, the amazing thing about Sakuraba is how he is always finding a possible submission and going after it. There's not a second in any of his fights were he's not trying to finish his opponent. Except against Silva. Silva destroyed him. I think I'll upload Silva vs. Sak 1.

Why does Saku keep fighting Silva? I've only seen this first match, but SIlva keeps dominating him. Also I heard Silva is in a different weight class is this true?

About the different weight class - Silva and Sakuraba are in the same weight class (middle weight) but Pride's middleweight ranges from 175 - 205 (correct me if I'm wrong) so there's a ton of room for weight gaps and Silva outweighed him in all three fights. Also, in the fight I uploaded (there first fight) Sakuraba was the huge favorite over Silva. People thought it was just a fluke (how they got that idea from that performance is beyond me, especially when you consider the style matchup is heavily in Silva's favor - no one else Saku fought had the thai skills and aggression of Silva and isamu - style is huge in a fight, just look at Hunt vs. Yoshida and then Hunt vs. Silva) and Sakuraba was even favored in the second fight, which wasn't as complete a domination as the first one.

We need some light heavyweight kick boxing clips. The super heavyweights never do any grappling.

Edit: I spoke a little soon.

umm, what? if it's kickboxing, then of course they don't do any grappling, it has nothing to do with the weight classes :p

You're getting kickboxing and mixed martial arts confused :p.

Just went and saw Fighter in the Wind, the 2004 Korean flick about Masutatsu Oyama. It isn't explosively awesome but it was still great nonetheless. Recommend everyone who has replied in this thread to see it.

To needlessly bump this thread:

So I just watched the 1997 World Vale Tudo Championships (3). First, I'm glad to see how the sport has progressed since then (well, in most organizations). I really don't want to watch repeated headbutts or groin shots exchanged between fighters, or half of them breaking their hands on each other's faces.

That said, I only recognized two fighters from the tournament, Pedro Rizzo and Mark Kerr. IIRC this is the tourney that Biff wanted to see the young Kerr in? I guess the video's kinda rare. Anyhow, Kerr did pretty well, but was very dependent on headbutts in one match, and while he did come off as a strong competitor, I don't really think he got all that much of a chance to shine (opponents falling out of the ring, staying in guard for entire fights, etc.).

Thanks for alerting me about this. I just went to get it.

I think the sport has progressed quite a bit too, for obvious reasons. I feel mixed about my thoughts to if headbutts should be allowed. Like elbows, headbutts can in certain cases cause cuts quick, but wouldn't really stop a fight.

A good heabutt is devastating though, a vicious weapon if you use it right. When I grew up there was a street fighter in the neighborhood who would just finish his fights by always breaking the other guys nose or bones in his face with a head butt. It was sick. Likewise, I've heard stories from family/friends who have made good use of headbutts. I myself have been butted a few times hard, and its very jarring. And, those weren't even strong headbutts.

I remember seeing Igor Vov use a headbutt to end an ultra brutal fight with Nick Nutter (If you don't have this fight, get it). It was in some shitty promotion, and these guys went to total war. It was extremely bloody. Nutter was a hammer house wrestler, and Vov was still young and raw. The fight went back and forth, with Igor seemingly tapping out from repeated knees to the head when he was trapped against the cage. The ref didn't see it though, and let the fight go on. While Nutter was mounted on Igor, Igor got enough room to get his head close and bam! A vicious headbutt that really busted the guys face up and he immediately tapped out. On a sidenote, they'd rematch later on, and Igor KOed him in about 3 seconds off a beautiful knee when Nutter went fpor the takedown.

Its probably best they are disallowed, because fights would be excessively bloody and unneedlessy stop in certain cases. At the same time, its leaving out a pretty devastating and realistic tool for a fight that is supposed to be as close as to real as it gets.

headbuts are great for the street, but keep them out of sports, IMO. I mean crap, if you're gonna add headbuts, why not groin strikes, and throat strikes, side style kicks to knees, and eye gouges, and etcetera etcetera etcetera.

I think throat strikes are allowed, lots of fighters have used them over time. Marciano used to elbow and punch the hell out of his opponents everywhere, including the throat. In the Igor/Enson fight, there's a clear moment when Igor brutally chops Enson in the throat with his hand/forearm.

I'm pretty sure fighters are allowed to kick the knees or any target aside from the balls they want, they just don't use that style of kicking.

hmm, when i was competing they always specified that side kicks to knees, groin shots, and throat strikes weren't allowed. I mean an accidental glancing punch or two would pass, but there'd be hell if someone did a Bil Jee or anything akin to that. It was always pretty clear that crippling moves could only be done on the ground (armbars and such). K1 style rules never allowed for elbows or knee kicks. Inner and outer thigh only.

I've seen the Crocop story. Found it to be really interesting. Too bad I can't download those last few files, they'd put me over the bandwidth limit for my res.

In other news, I will have a preview thread for UFC 51 up late tomorrow, sometime.
