We here at NIGORO believe in the future of the 2D platformer. While 3D games have gained in popularity, we've always wondered where the future of the 2D game could take us.

La-Mulana was a sprawling action adventure game with tons of secrets, items, and difficult enemies. The original was made as a love letter to the 8-bit games we grew up with.

In 2011, we remade the first La-Mulana, remixed areas, and upgraded the graphics to match a more modern 16-bit aesthetic. At that point, La-Mulana was finished, but it's not the end. We can do more.

With your help, we can make the sequel we've always wanted to make, and play a part in helping Japan regain its position as a fundamental part of the gaming world stage.

Please, lend us your support.

What is La-Mulana 2?
In La-Mulana 2, you will take on the role of Lumisa Kosugi on a mission to find the entrance to the ruins of Eg-Lana, which is rumored to be the source of recent monster appearances. The ruins themselves are compromised of a variety of areas as well as huge boss creatures known as Guardians. Who knows what lies in wait at the end of Eg-Lana?

It's true that La-Mulana 2 is a sequel, but we want to make it enjoyable both for people returning to the series and newcomers alike. While “You don’t need to have played the prequel!” is a horribly overused cliché, we feel it’s appropriate here. We want all players to be able to play and enjoy our work.

With the sequel to La-Mulana, our aim is to create a fresh new experience for people who enjoyed the first game, while also giving newcomers a chance to enjoy the series without being forced to play La-Mulana first.

La-Mulana 2 is being developed primarily for the PC, and will have gamepad support, just like the original La-Mulana.

Stretch Goals:

Dammit, this shouldn't have to be kickstarted. WHY DIDN'T EVERYONE BUY LA-MULANA!?

Oh well, kickstarted. Thanks, cheddahz.

Just saw Wario mention it on Tweeter a couple minutes ago. I wish I could give something towards this. I like the first one despite the utter frustration.

Don't look at me. I bought two copies - one on Steam and one on GOG.

Done pledging for the early bird special. More suffering with La-Mulana continues! (I still enjoy the game despite dying gazillion times)

I don't know why kickstarters don't put ports as a number one priority when making stretch goals. I would be a lot more likely to donate it I thought I had a good shot at getting it on the Vita.

Hnnnnggg do want. I hope that if they do add extra features to aid newcomers, they're all optional.

They are asking for a lot though, La-Mulana has a nice cult following but I don't think it'll be enough unless some sites catch on.

Not a fan of listing the platforms as a stretch goal when you don't know which platforms you're going to support even as a stretch goal. Just find that really weird. I would back it for sure if the Vita version was happening but the wording doesn't seem like they even know at this point.

Doubt it even gets close to that goal anyway so I guess its a moot point. Hope I'm wrong!

Yeah, they're going to need to clear that up quickly. You're going to have pissed off people if they donate and then the console/handheld version of the game isn't made for the platform that they want it on, or they just won't donate at all.

This. Unsung Story had struck the same chord with me as well. Cosmic Star Heroine Kickstarter did it right up front. The Vita and PS4 versions of the game were already in the scope of the kickstarter budget, no stretch goal needed. I hope it gets made, but I can just not get into playing games on the PC, if it was for sure coming to consoles and/or handhelds I'd be in for sure. As it stands $200,000 might be asking for a lot, let alone nearly 2 million.

I'm blamin' everyone. Including you! Should've bought the WiiWare version as well.

They probably paid a buck for it in some bundle or other, before it was Greenlit and when the devs were promising Steam keys.

(I actually bought it on Steam at release at full price)
blah

Reminds me of something...

I knew that looked familiar. Couldn't pinpoint it.

I remember it being super cheap during the winter sale as well and I saw a bunch of people pick it up. I actually bought the game at launch and I have still yet to play it (though I already pledged for the sequel)

It's all battle stations here in the Playism office. We're sitting in the conference room on our laptops talking to NIGORO on Skype.

My heart could not be beating faster right now. *deep breaths*

Instantly backed. Can't wait to play this on release, must be a really incredible experience to play this without guides or the like.

Personally I think having more content is more important than ports.

I want this sooooooooooo bad. The amount seems a bit high.

$200,000 seems high to you to create a whole video game?

You're paying 6 people for 2 years.

Hey I noticed it said you needed a Playism account to redeem your steam keys, what's that all about?

No, but it is a lot to expect for a super niche IP.

Believe me, I want them to succeed, I'm just worried that the brand isn't strong enough to get the funding, especially since they priced the console ports so high.

I think I read some article discussing the situation, but they might have regretted that pre-Steam bundle decision, because it cannibalized their Steam day one sales.

I will never play this. Fuck La Mulana. Fuck everything about it.

I will play this. Fuck La Mulana. Fuck everything about it.

I know that this one won't be any less obtuse than the first, but MAN there is so much to like about the first game. I just won't be able to resist.

Isn't the Playism account for the DRM-free version? At least that's how I read it.

Hmmmm I'm not sure.

You get both the Steam version and a DRM-free digital copy of La-Mulana 2 from Playism upon release. (A free Playism account is required to download digital backer rewards)

Yeah I can read it that way I guess.

I'm not too worried about it, I noticed it was under all of the reward tiers. Just wondering if I needed to make an account there to get my steam key... in 2 years.

When you pledge, you get a DRM-free Playism version of the game, and your steam key will be sitting on your Playism account page, waiting to be redeemed.

All you have to do is make a free account using the same email you backed with on Kickstarter, and we will handle the rest.

Kay, thanks for clarifying!

It sounds like they're aiming more for just hard gameplay rather than being obtuse this time. Normally I'd be miffed at trying to make things more accessible, but well fuck it I was fleeing at the sight of all those puzzles anyway.

This is one game that would definitely benefit from being a bit more accessible. Those puzzles in the first one were just too much. Guides are required.

Ah well, I'm in!

That sounds simple enough. Wouldn't it be better to just put that on the pitch to avoid any further confusions, though?
