I think Dawn, the fan pick, is the best. Don't get me wrong, Night of the Living Dead is a great flick, but Dawn of the Dead is so engrossing and so depressing that it takes awhile to decompress afterwards. I don't remember a horror film having nearly the kind of impact that Dawn did on me.

If anything, I like the remake because it allows me to unwind a bit and be entertained, which is the exact opposite of how I view the original. It's such a dreary world that Romero's characters inhabit. There's nothing worse than the sense that eventually, you'll die. Slowly, and probably painfully. The Dawn remake is so full of chaos and carnage that at least you know you'll go out quick.

It is my favorite film, I guess it is also why I want to film a movie in Black and White. I always thought you could almost take the Zombies out ot Night and it would still be a very intense movie, because of the Atmosphere set. I think the Black and White and the tight spaces had alot to do with that .

I don't think that the lack of color necessarily enhances the film, it's just that it was so well shot. The setting helps the most, as it's a much more intimate story than the sprawling zombie epic that is Dawn of the Dead and the cold, sterile apocalyptic feel of Day.

It'd be interesting to find out how/why people started coming back to life, but I guess half the horror is in the mystery surrounding the origin of the living dead.

Romero once said in an interview that he'd leave it a mystery. I think mainly because his initial radioactive satellite bit was the one thing that has aged horribly in the original Night of the Living Dead, and because it allows for a lot of intriguing ideas and personal reflection from the characters in the films. One person can believe it's a virus, another could pin it on religious stuff or another could create an altogether bizarre theory. No matter what, it's always interesting to see the characters rationalize this completely unbelievable situation.

Can we all agree that Day sucked?

Day didn't suck. It was unfortunately the Return of the Jedi of the Dead trilogy, and it gets unfairly hated on because it doesn't live up to the standards Romero set with Dawn of the Dead. I like Day. Do I like it more than Night or Dawn? Hell no. But I like it. It pushes some real intriguing ideas, but unfortunately, Romero tries to frame the story in this small, tight setting like Night, but without any likeable characters and the military bunker feels so cold and sterile.

I like Day a lot, and think it is just as good as the other ones. Yes, I do. It's a dark movie no doubt, but also very fun. It also easily has the best acting of the series. Bub is so convincing, incredible job really. Pilato does a great job as well, perfectly over the top. I never understood the criticism for how overly dramatic everyone was. They had no choice, they were in a bunker for months, scientists and army. They were stressed out and always butting heads, and dealing with the fact that the world is over. I would certainly go overboard with every emotion. Plus the gore utterly rocks, still the best. I enjoy it more everytime I watch it.

It's just not near the caliber of the previous two films. It's not as entertaining as Night of the Living Dead, and it doesn't have anywhere close the kind of dramatic and emotional impact of Dawn of the Dead.

And what separates those two the most are the characters. You become invested in them. It's hard to like the characters in Day, whether they be over-the-top or just annoying. I was rooting for the zombies.

But Savini did a HELL of a job on Day.

The only thing that sucked about Day was the studio interference. It was the studio's nitpicking and stubborness that led to the truncated "dream" ending. Beh.

I quite like the characters actually. But I do think you were supossed to root for the zombies somewhat, Bub is obviously the most sympathetic. I think that sets up Land very well actually, the zombies are the heroes this time.

I do enjoy still screaming heads being torn off

Seriously watch Day again. It is excellent. I know you watched it expecting another Dawn or something similar, it isn't. That is why most fans hated it at first. Watch it again. You now know what to expect from it. Just watch it again to marvel at Howard Sherman's Bub. Truly one of the best acted roles.

Yeah, I don't get all the hate for Day. Sure, we can all say Night and Dawn are better (both for different reasons), but Day was still a good zombie flick and probably had the best gore out of the 3.

Why don't you like Day?

-Most of the characters are unlikable
-The Bub subplot was dumb
-I thought it was slow and boring
-I don't watch films for gore, so I could give a rat's ass about the ending

If I could watch Day again, or Vertigo, I would not choose Day. There are a million great films I have yet to see, and I'd rather watch them.

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated
Romero peaked with 'Dawn', but that's ok, because it's an incredible horror/zombie movie that will continue to stand the test of time. While I actually look forward to Land of the Dead, I'm not even remotely expecting it to live up to that previous benchmark. You just don't get that same sense of dread out of a modern zombie flick and with known actors. For me, part of the creepy appeal of Dawn was that I wasn't familiar with the actors in the cast - there wasn't any sort of established comfort in the characters. It made them more convincing as the everyman/woman running for their lives. Besides, will there ever be a better zombie movie setting than a mall?
