Laptop keyboard problem

Gah. The down key came off yesterday, and I called HP since the laptop's still covered with warranty. But they told me a full service might involve getting the harddrive wiped out, even though they don't even have to turn the computer on. The button for down still works, but there's no key on it.

Any suggestions or methods I can use to fix it?

My laptop's keys just snap in and out... there's a pretty elaborate set of little plastic hinges holding each key on. I snapped one of them and the key's now mushier than the rest, but after a little time spent slipping it back in, it worked again...

Hey, I fixed it...

Thanks for your advice. I wouldn't have noticed until you mentioned the elaborate hinges. :)

Well, to clarify, a full service requires them digging deeper into the computer than necessary. I still deemed it unnecessary, but I didn't want to take any chances.

I can already tell this key will be problematic for a long time, so I'll look for a more permanant solution down the line.
