I'm listening to The Ditty Bops , I love them so much. I think I am falling in love with Abby through this recording of her voice. Her voice is so wonderful and soothing without being obvious about trying to be (Norah Jones), and the way she says things is so cute. The music style is soothing too, but not really to the point of relaxing so you feel you should take a nap to it or anything.

I've recently been listening to a band called Air

They're a trip. Really nice sounds.
Don't even get me started on Air. Just don't. And speaking of trips, their track "Dirty Trip" off of the Virgin Suicides CD is a godly track to sleep or have sex to.

Currently i'm listening to dZihan & Kamien's "Gran Riserva" CD, which i ripped from a netradio stream. i like almost every track in the entire CD, and they each have a different mood, but i just can't get enough of "Where's Johnny Sabatino". This is definitely my next CD purchase.

i also borrowed the latest Talib Kweli CD from a coworker, but i've yet to listen to it.

Dsal

it's going to come out of you and it's going to taste so good
Guided By Voices - Alien Lanes
Yesterday's New Quintet - Life's Angles
Beach Boys - Smile (some superold weird studio tape version)
Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra - forgot the album name

road trip out to the coast tomorrow.. need to make sure to bring a big ol batch of stuff to listen to.

I burned a disc a few nights back with a bunch of 80's music, The Police, Corey Hart, Flock of Seagulls, Phill Collins, Bananarama, U2, Culture Club, Van Halen, Huey Lewis & The News. I really don't know why but I just got in the mood for it.

Recommend some more tracks. Please.
Although I tend to recommend that people buy albums (in which case the recommendation is Talkie Walkie > Moon Safari > Premièrs Symptomes > The Virgin Suicides soundtrack), here are ten songs from Air that I like a lot, in no particular order:

Alone In Kyoto
Talisman
La Femme d'Argent
Les Professionnels
Le Soleil Est Près de Moi
Mike Mills
Cherry Blossom Girl
Sexy Boy
Surfing On A Rocket

If you like Air's sound, you also should check out Zero 7 -- their album Simple Things is a downtempo classic, though their more recent one (When It Falls) is disappointing. Also, you HAVE to check out a group (duo, I believe) called Bent. The album you can find easily is The Everlasting Blink, but Ariels (import-only at this time) is AMAZING.

Also, I want to mention for the umpteenth time that listening to KCRW is a Very Good Thing. Morning Becomes Eclectic has been doing a year-in-review all morning, and I hear that Jason Bentley and Raul Campos are teaming up tonight from 7:30-midnight Pacific to do a kick-ass dance mix for your party background.

Plug your computer into the stereo and fire up the webcast!

Actually, I'm listening to the Session @AOL EP of this album right now. I snagged it of iTunes a few days ago.

After all, it is the new year.

Using Best Buy gift certificates and cheap prices at Rolling Stones on Harlem Ave., I picked up some new shiznatf:

The Sounds, Living in America
Rise Against, Siren Song of the Counter Culture
Rocket from the Crypt, Circa:Now!+4
Air, Surfing on a Rocket E.P.
The Von Bondies, Pawn Shoppe Heart
Phantom Planet,
VHS or Beta, Night on Fire

and The Fiery Furnace's Blueberry Boat which I can't tell whether or not I like. It's strange because I usually love bands and artists from the area, but the references to the Franklin Park ice arena, Mannheim, etc just confuse me.

You can't just come in here and listen to normal music!
This is all normal music. I don't understand how everyone thinking that because people listen to music they haven't heard of, it's suddenly really bad, or weird. Most of the reason I even participate in these threads is to get band names that aren't out there out there, and discuss/see things I haven't heard of before. What you've heard of is like, whatever, 10% of the stuff out there. Just because you haven't heard of the other 90%, that doesn't mean that that 90% is crappy music or anything.

For what it's worth, the "I don't listen to anything mainstream!" crowd is a bunch of fucks. A good chunk of what they listen to is on a subdivision of a subdivision of a subdivision of one of the majors. But they think that their shit doesn't stink somehow. And none of the people that post in these threads are like that.

It's OK, I was only messing around. No need to lecture me on musicology.
