So which is it? Mythic? Microsoft Games Studio (FASA)? Sigil?

Should kick ass either way. Let's all get together, bum rush a few orc security guards, and fly through a 20 story office building. Man I can't wait.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Word from the underground is about Microsoft's resurrection of the Shadowrun franchise. Some say it could come in the form of a SNES remake to a completely new launch game for the Xbox 2.

Shadowrun: Tokyo 2095 for the Sega CD might actually be getting a translation patch from an as yet undisclosed translation group to commorate the phoenix-like rise.

Rumor is based on truth. FASA Studios is doing it as a MMPORPG. They had it in the works in Chicago but it got shitcanned before the acquisition. I heard that its billed at FASA studio's internal team's last chance to suceed at anything.

Xenon launch title. FACT.

Last I heard it's planned for launch, but it's got a good a chance of being late. And yes it's developed by FASA's remaining team after the Crimson Skies one has been disbanded.

Shadowrun is cool because it's sort of the best of both worlds...

You can go the Morrowind direction and let players do what they want, you can have online deathmatches, you can go the full MMORPG route, you can go the let's rip off/outdo GTA route, it's pretty open in terms of design. Even the SNES and Genesis games were fairly different (RPG vs more of a 16-bit GTA type game).

And not just open in game design, there's warriors, magic users, hackers, vampires, dragons, orcs, street racers, etc. It's sort of a nerd's paradise game, and I think it's good timing to resurrect the series. They just need to take over control of the licensing and fund a TV cartoon or something too.

Sounds like it is the Crimson Skies team, kind of confused about where the main FASA guys are but I guess Redmond. If it's Day 1 I'll be surprised.

There's also Zipper somewhere out there but I don't know what they are doing now.

Hopefully they do the project right and partner with someone like Sigil or Mythic if it's going to be a MMORPG. If it's going to be just online/multiplayer, then internal MGS themselves should be able to handle it.

SOCOM at Sony.

MMORPG? Too bad, but the decision is right. The world of Shadow Run could be very fascinating if done right.

Shadowrun done right could be hawt.
Not too jazzed about the MMORPG angle, but at least the world is interesting and free of cliched archetypes for the most part.

I don't understand why you tell though? I mean it's cool and all to get informations. But aren't these people telling you in confidence?

I would prefer an offline RPG.. but with some online elements. For example co-op via live could be cool. IN a shadowrun universe, a group consists of different characters, the hacker, the shaman etc.. and it could be a sweet thing to play with friends and that they control the other characters in the group...

but just give us Shadowrun whatevaRPG and we will be happy..

I can only hope they capture the "feel" of a cyberpunk world

You know stuff like anarchy online and even fallout isn't really what I imagine when I'm reading William Gibson.

Even the Matrix is hardly cyberpunk. I want to see people with spiky pink hair.

Because when I'm told the same thing from a lot of different sources, inside and outside MS I consider stuff to be common knowledge. I was even talking about this to a common contact we have yesterday, who agreed the whole shadowrun thing was old news already (except the MMORPG part I don't know anything about). There are many things I've been told that I would never ever write or even tell to anyone because someone trusted me not to tell them, just like I'm sure you have some too.

Hehe, thats cool then!!! No, I don't personally have sources like that! Might be I'm in the wrong circles here; I never hear anything! :)

I can remember only a very old interview mentioning a Shadowrun game developed by Microsoft, but that's yeaaaars old. I know less then nothing about the future of Microsoft, outside of common knowledge...*sob

FASA did have Shadowrun Assasins which was a MMORPG in development YEARS ago, but that got canned.
I'm too lazy too look, but the interview I read with the Shadowrun inventor on some tabletop RPG website, mentioned a game in development by Microsoft, it's from like 2002...

That one is probably even older? At least it's a hint it could be resumed in dev. I don't know though no real current hints though that I remember off hand.

I'm very aware of that, I'm not doubting they are still wanting to make a game, I'm just curious if information can be found which somewhat confirms your speculation about the release at launch.

See, the game was either put on hold several times, as I believe, or was long time in development. Either way theres not much suggesting it'll be out that soon.

The filing was also a sorta 're-filing', not an actual new one; http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=doc&state=kr9qco.3.6 hence the not posting on my behalf... :)

I asked Shane Kim point blank what's happening with the franchise.

As soon as I mentioned the name, he smiled as if holding back the best secret in the world and simply declined to comment. He walked away very happy.

Read into that how you like. I believe from his body language and change in tone of voice that it's definitely happening and they have big plans for it.

Smug bastards that Kim! :D I had one interview with him, but he's slippery like an eal. He simply refuses to answer anything in a way it's eventually even remotely connected to what you asked to begin with! :)

*earlier that day*

Shane Kim: I'm fed up of people asking me about Shadowrun. There isn't a fucking game in development!

Mrs. Kim: Oh you're over exaggerating, as usual.

Shane Kim: I am not! I bet you the washing up for the week that someone asks me about it today.

Mrs. Kim: You're on.

Think it's about time for this game. Hope they do it right. Can't wait for E3.

I actually quite like the punk/goth/demon hybrid genre before BUFFY/ANGEL came along and fucked it up.

Hope its not a MMORPG and hope its stellar. Will buy Xenon if its as described.

What the fuck do Buffy and Angel have to do with punk/goth?

they took the concept and made it cheesy on a platter... (ooo..dark and moody..we'll do research on demons on our spiffy power books)

...neither Buffy nor Angel have anything to do with cyberpunk. As for demons, they've been around a hell of a lot longer than any of that crap, so it's seems unlikely Buffy is taking its inspiration from there.

If you want to compare Buffy and Angel to anything, it should be superhero comic books. You're comparison is beyond ridiculous, you might as well say Lost fucked the genre up.

I'd rather no Shadowrun game be in development than an MMORPG shadowrun. Please don't kill the franchise - there's no way an MMORPG Shadowrun will succeed.

Since your spilling your guts Blimblim... tell us about MS's critter game.
Blinx 3 you mean ? :D
Joking joking, I do not know every games planned by MS, what's with this critter game ?

Wow! I'd love a new Shadowrun game. Played both the SNES version and Genesis back in the day. I enjoyed the Genesis version more at the time, and thought the psuedo 3D cyberspace segements to be very cool. Just think of the incredible things we could do today with a modern Shadowrun game. Action RPG with a great story and excellent skill system would be a welcome addition to the Xbox (or any systems) library.

The MMORPG market has gotten so saturated as of late. A MMO version of Shadowrun could be awesome if done properly, and it would appeal to someone whose tired of the fantasy settings that are so common in the genere today. But the Shadowrun brand probably doesn't hold the appeal that it once did, plus EQ2 and especially WOW are going to hog up the market for awhile.

Woah one of those fan videos has a half naked woman in a skimpy black outfit holding a quite large knife.

I have a feeling this game would please:
Fantasy fans
Sci fi fans
Grand Theft Auto fans
RPG fans
Punk/anti-social fans
Morrowind fans

Lots of cheesy stuff out there...but Shadowrun is a nerd's paradise type game. I mean, you've got science fiction, PLUS dragons, PLUS werewolves, PLUS Akira-type cyberbike racing scenes, PLUS vampires, PLUS magic, PLUS ogres and trolls and dwarves, PLUS swords, PLUS matrix cyberhacking scenes.

Here's hoping they play the Genesis game a lot...
