[gonintendo] Latest Switch 2 firmware update appears to be killing select third party docks

Could be unintentional, sure. I don't think the fact that not all third party docks are affected proves anything though, Enough are affected to discourage people from buying third party. That is all they really needed to do

I bet the ones that stopped working were models where the manufacturers didn't really do their job correctly when reverse engineering how the original dock works.
the official Dock was not updated, meaning any Dock that processes the signals the same as the official one, will automatically also still work.

I wouldn't be surprised if the ones that stopped working were never tailored specifically for the Switch 2, and were just recycled USB-C docks that the manufacturers happened to notice already worked with the Switch 2... so they just stuck the already finished hardware into a different housing that fits the Switch 2 and called it a day.

Even if it wasn't intentional, they've burned so much goodwill with Nintendo fans across the internet that no one will ever believe them.

I have no beef with Nintendo, yet I'm skeptical about this myself. Sorry for those affected 😕

The problem is that the official behavior includes private messages that are not documented. Getting a perfect clone isn't a trivial endeavor, so decent and even great products can still break when Nintendo tweaks requirements. Great =/= Perfect. Without official documentation from Nintendo, every third-party dock has the possibility of breaking with a future update unless they nail the communication 100%.

I thought about getting a second dock for my Switch 2 until I saw it was $130 for like $20 of materials at most.

You are suppose to gladly give them your money and shame any/all who might think of buying an alternative. Otherwise, you are a "weirdo".

Man, I'm so sorry, that really sucks.

No kidding, I don't even have a Switch 2 yet, but stuff like this just makes me want to wait more and more. Complete anti-consumer behavior and it's gross AF.
The cons have been piling up for me, personally. With Nintendo itself being one of the biggest ones. :pie_thinking:
