I feel like I have some talent within myself for drawing, but I don't know what to do. I don't have room for art classes in my schedule at school. But, I'd like to experiment in my spare time.

What type of drawings should I start out with? Tips and commentary would be helpful.

The easiest thing is to practice, practice, practice.

I haven't drawn for years, but I would look at several different artist work to see how they did anatomy and whatnot, then go from that and do it my way.

Life studies would help... you can get pics from the net or magazines if you cant get some one to pose for you... draw what you see and let your sensibilities take over...This takes some time.

If anotomy is your need then getting a book based offf of Bridgeman's anatomy is a great reference.... it's how Frank Frazetta learned anotmy ... (he re-drew the whole book cover to cover in his own sketch book) ...@ the very least it's great pratice when you cant think of what to draw.

above all just draw

I'm actually trying to learn how to crappify my drawing. I've taken classes for years, i've had a few shows, i've sold work...yadda yadda yadda. I've mostly been doing hyper realistic stuff, though (and I'm starting to get sick of it)

Starting to move into the art brute direction. Digging more on indie comic styles. Insane doodling of commited madmen. Japanese underground manga (like big spirts comics) anything that is not realism. Hell, i've been studying childrens drawings, too. Funny how people always want most what's on the other side.

I second the Bridgeman Anatomy book. Its helped me out tremendously, and I can't recommend it enough. On a side note, would anyone know any good Landscaping books and Perspective books?

I'd Recomend this book

no matter what the amazon reviews say....especially the first one for something thats just a flash in the pan many a people who took Mcmullians course (which you get a free book) at SVA went on to works for companies like disney, WB, in comics, Nickelodean, and on shit like TMNT and such. The guy who wrote the book looks like MR Bruns and is a huge asshole. But what he teaches is great. gives drawings a very lose flowing feel. Doc_Holliday from Old GAF is a good example of what you can learn form this book.

A GOOD Life Drawing class is always a great idea, IMHO it's better then an anatomy book.

Yet the best advise is draw every day, pratice practice practie...or you end up like me...VERY rusty and old
