Legend of Zelda Wii U Gameplay Demo

There's a castle in the E3 footage, which leads me to believe that she'll be a princess, though she could have been exiled.

Aonuma specifically brought up Zelda not having to be a princess as one of the conventions he's thinking about.

“So, by no means, am I tired of it,” Aonuma reiterates with a laugh. “Rather, the more we change it, the more I get fired up. Having someone think ‘Huh? Is this Zelda?!’ at first, then ‘Oh, it is Zelda,’ is what we’re going for. Something that wouldn’t make it matter whether Link or Princess Zelda appear in it or not. Something where it wouldn’t even matter if Zelda is actually a princess, or not.”

This may well be the only thought out thing that has been uttered in this thread not said by myself.

don't get too full of yourself, junior

this is NeoGAF, and that attitude of yours is gonna get you in trouble one day

that said
we already decided that Link is a Gerudo princess to troll Mango

Zelda will be the leader of a tribe of wild people and somewhere in the game we'll learn that she's the actual heir to the throne and whoever is sitting on it right now is a fraud.

So it'll be WW on land with more animosity.

Yep, I would love this so much!

and the person currently on the throne is ganondorf in a dress and a blond wig.

Pfff... who needs a wig when your hair is this majestic.

He can just dye that shit and call it a day. I think I'll call him Blondedorf.

More I watch the video the more I notice a lot of animation missing, like the flag to the right of Link at the opening, and some trees as well. These are things they obviously tried to hide with off-screen footage. At least they had the balls to show it off in its current state or earlier.

The sunset hides a lot of things while also making us nostalgic for Zelda 1 so it goes unnoticed at first. Those crafty devils!

Oh and I fixed that one area with Link riding through the open plains and using his bow. I reduced the blue so it should look more natural with the rest of the footage.

Thanks for all your work man man, great stuff.

I think the flag not moving could be attributed to the wind as well. From what I'm looking at, I'm seeing extremely slight movement in it. If the wind was set higher like it was at E3 it would've likely been moving more. I do think that move when he vaults off the horse could use a couple of more frames of animation though. It looks like he just snaps mid flip straight into his aiming pose. But it's one of those things I'm certain they'll fix so I'm not worried at all.

Well from what we've seen, it doesn't appear to play any role in the gameplay, so maybe it is important for the first part of the game, but I really don't think it's any sorta of major importance or there to hide Link, considering nothing really changes when he doesn't have it.

I don't want to sound rude or anything by this next line, so sorry if it comes out that way, but while I get that the game is inspired by the animation, I don't think it'd be borrowing plot ideas, though I could be wrong. Then again though, it wouldn't be the first time that Link was feared by townsfolk, so maybe the plot starts out similarly to ALttP in that he's wrongly framed, and once he proves himself than he gets the green tunic and has no need for the cloak, I just thought that it was an interesting correlation that he only seems to wear it during broad daylight.

Also, lol I've always wanted to watch some of the miyazaki films, but I never have the time, and when I do I forget to watch them, however since I've got a break from class, I think I'll watch Mononokoe tomorrow.
You dont sound rude to me :P

Just watch it then come back

Yeah, I'm not really worried either. These are details that Nintendo will definitely iron out and fix. Could you imagine Mario Kart 8 without mustache animation? I can't now!

Yea it just means this early look at the world wasn't planned for and they just ran through a safe area that didn't have too many harsh edges and cut things that weren't presentable yet.

What I'd love them to do for the big E3 blowout is start with the EXACT scene from this year's E3 but this time have the octomos not appear and instead reveal that someone is indeed playing it, then cut back to full screen and start moving into a different location. Just to hammer the point home that what we saw is really what the final thing is.

Skyward Sword Zelda is kind of boring.

There, I said it. I mean, Tetra is this spunky companion that you have with you for quite a bit chunk of Wind Waker...

SS Zelda is just kind of... there. To facilitate the story. (I know, I know, she does that in every game. But she's just boring at doing that, too).

Not sure how you can call pushing you off a floating island boring^^

But sure, after the opening your interaction is limited.

Until she becomes Zelda and does absolutely nothing until the very end of the game.

The story was about ripping her away from her home because of her destiny. It was very well done and it's the first time I've actually cared about her character growth. She goes from that to facing up to what she has to do and gave up everything for the greater good. As a long time fan of the series that was brilliant to behold and incredibly satisfying. I don't understand how that's boring. It finally explained everything about that character and precisely why the entire series is called Legend of Zelda.

And then THAT moment later into the story between her and Link... I'll not dance around it and just say that I found it incredibly emotional. That game easily had the most important and poignant story beats in the series.

If people want to insist on Zelda going back to its "roots". Then Link needs to become a time traveler and the Tri-Force a computer chip.

You know what could be a massive and potentially amazing addition? An OPTION for permadeath

if there are various systems at play in the environment that sort of govern themselves and play out relatively randomly (to an extent) this could even make a tiny bit of sense

Don't go too crazy with this stuff. This will only lead to disappointment. I don't see them ever doing permadeath, especially not as an option. If that ever happens it will be that game's special gimmick.

Yeah, they are not doing that.
