  • 8.8" 16:10 OLED Screen
  • 144hz VRR
  • 16GB or 32GB memory
  • 1TB or 2TB storage
  • Ryzen Z2 or Ryzen Z2 Extreme

It's a cool handheld but holy fuck at that price, starting at $1,099 for base Z2 and 16GB memory. Especially with the Xbox Ally rumored to be in the $500-$600 range for Ryzen Z2/16GB memory.

For 3 exclusives vs this thing that plays all Switch 1 games plus all the rest??? hmmmmmmmmmmm...
Gotta look at the bigger picture. A few games now. Many, many more over the next 7-8 years. Official third party ports optimized for the hardware and an overall consistent experience.

This thing will be considered outdated in a couple years. If you buy one for performance, then you're absolutely going to upgrade to the real next gen hardware when that drops, so that's another $1,000+ in 2028. No thank you.

This is not going to perform better than Series S in GPU-bound games

Crazy prices, but Lenovo does not make profits on software unlike Valve/Nintendo/MS/Sony

Optimized 3rd party 30 fps, downgraded graphics ports. hmmmmmm

SW2 is also outdated and can't be sold for an upgrade. You call sell this thing and upgrade to a better handheld in near the future.

Zoomers buy shit like this and then complain they have no money.
One life man, might as well blow all your money on nice toys to stare at. Not like you're gonna ever afford a house and find a decent girl to start a family with.

Anyways that looks like it's worth the price of 2 1/2 Switch 2s. Love that Lenovo goes hard on giving people a massive screen with great quality.

Trust me. I know. I made a thread about the terrible Switch 2 screen. A better one isn't worth $1000+.

It's still a much better value than this. If it was a true generational leap I'd think differently.
Unfortunately we live in a world where people let themselves get cucked by $2000 GPUs every year that don't have real generational leaps that aren't dependent on FG.

Outside of consoles we haven't really seen true generational jumps since probably the 1st generation of RTX cards, or something like Apple's jump from Intel to their inhouse M series chips. Even with consoles I don't think you'll see it much going forward.

Is this still 1 kg + or was that false alarm?

Price can come down but nothing can be done about weight. After playing on ROG Ally, am not really looking for something even more heavy.

You're better off buying a Switch 2 and a bunch of games at that price. What a waste of money.
Probably if you are wanting a console experience. I see these devices competing with gaming laptops more than I see them competing with console handhelds. Obviously them being handheld is something in common with handheld consoles but their library competes directly with the PC/laptop market.

But this isn't a nice toy.

PEOPLE LISTEN TO ME. There is safety in numbers. Never buy shit that has like 1000 other users when there is shit out with millions of other users.

When it comes time to screw somebody over they will ALWAYS screw over the 1000 users vs the 1 million users.

This is an evolutionary lesson you are ignoring. At the very least buy the device that has been coopted by Microsoft to have Xbox branding. At least that will bring some volume and saftey. Buying a Lenovo device that like 20 other dudes will buy? Must I spell out the issues you may run into and how likely they are to fix them for you? With obscure(and this is VERY obscure) hardware comes obscure bugs and without volume there is no motivation to fix what was released, but rather just dump out the next better thing that sells on specs. There is little QA when compared to a company that releases one product and is constantly evaluating it to continue its popularity. There is safety in numbers. This is a universal truth and buying something like this goes directly against it. Disagree now all you like but one day you will know it to be true. Variety and novelty is a powerful lure but don't take the bait. If you absolutely can't stand the Switch 2 then get the Xbox or the Steam Deck or the PS6 handheld, do not get the flash in the pan specs sheet, you will probably end up regretting it.

DF said Expedition 33 runs in the 20s on this chip. Just awful. Going by the types of games people play on PC handhelds, just get a less expensive one until the real next gen versions drop. The price to performance here is dreadful.

$1350 for cheapest one with Z2 Extreme?!? And it's not even Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme like in XBox Ally X!

All of the sudden XBox Ally X @$900 looks like a bargain. lol

Yeah I'm all set with $1000 on a handheld.

PS5 + Portal is a better use of that money and 30% cheaper

Or just pre-pay 5 years of GeForce Now and play on anything

Only justification I can see for these types of handhelds are if you're playing on the road or the subway or outside or whatever a ton.

If you have a decent wifi connection, I'll go with streaming every time. You can run games maxed out at high resolutions and 120fps compared to these severely comprised handheld devices.

Looking to get into pc handheld gaming due to work travel. Can anyone give an objective opinion on this. Already have a Switch 2 and it's been in a cabinet after completing DK:B. I do have a large indie library in my steam account.

Get the 32GB version, don't even humor the 16GB one. You lose part of that memory to the GPU.

I currently use an Ally X and it's incredible as a portable PC. I think this would be even better, and the form factor is way better as well.

If I wanted to play mostly indie stuff, and in the U.S., I'd go grab eol MSI Claw 7 with 135H going for less than $400 at Best Buy. Not a refurb. It's on clearence.

I wouldn't have been surprised at $1,100 for the Z2E model but for the weaker one? wow

edit: I'm trying to sell my ROG Ally Z1E and with the prices on these new models I think I'll just build a desktop for PC gaming and stick to the Steam Deck for portable

Some of the older models are massively discounted. Will start looking from there for indie games. Like steam deck oled or asus rog ally (white).

If looking for latest and greatest, Xbox Rog Ally X seems ok. That should do some AAA gaming close to 60 fps as well.

Nobody knows the price for the Ally X though, could be more than $899. And the screen on the Lenovo is bigger and 144hz OLED VRR.

Right. But Best Buy did reveal the Ally as $549 and the Ally X at $899. That could change but that was clearly the original intended price point.

Also you can legit pass it off as a small tablet PC for business, without the controllers attached, put in a small case with a bluetooth keyboard/touchpad, and use the kickstand, where the Ally X is going to look very gamer-ish. And the screen having OLED+HDR means it's be great for media consumption too, albeit it a bit on the smaller side compared to a 14" laptop.

People in this thread are in for a rude awakening when PS6 console / handheld pricing is revealed.

I for one am hoping that when the inevitable economic and technology industry collapses and stalls, developers make their games for aging specs like my 4070S so I don't have to upgrade for a goooood while.

It's going to be expensive, but probably not north of 1k. Some rumors have it cheaper than the 5 pro. These handhelds are really getting ridiculous with prices closing in on 2k.

My husband has a Lenovo Legion desktop and one day it wouldn't turn on. Within a week he had his desktop repaired and sent back to him.

I don't know how Lenovo is overall with repairs I'm sure every company has some horror stories but personally they seem pretty decent. Get the extended warranty and have some faith.

Subsidised console propped up by their own store. If you said the next Xbox you'd have a point.

This is NOT the way to do PC gaming at any level, I got a Rog Ally for £150 it's great at the price, very capable machine, my daughter uses it everyday as her desktop PC (via dock on her monitor she also has a Series X) but at this cost, even if you can't build a PC just buy a desktop pre-built, I could get this for £849.99 inc VAT from Costco, it's way more capable.

£899.98
- AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600X Processor
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX™ 5060 Ti Graphics Card
- 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD
- Windows 11 Home

The real MSRP is $1349 as paying $1099 for a handheld that doesn't even have the Z2E is peak stupidity.

This handheld has great hardware and the best handheld screen around, but the weight and price is a killer. I'd be surprised if this thing even sells a 100k. Seriously, 1.1KG and 3x the price of a Switch 2 is extremely dumb.
