LEGO Dimensions |OT| Not Lost Dimensions

I love Lego and Lego games so I'm really interested in this game, but it seems like it won't be sold in my country (at least for the moment).
I've never dealt with Skylanders, Amiibos or other toy stuff, so I have a question.
Are physical toys region free?
For example, if I import starter pack from US, but later will decide to pick up a character pack from EU, will it work?

Dammit GAF...

lmao. I bought almost exactly the same as you, except Xbox One version and also picked up Legolas, Wizard of Oz and Lego Movie Emmett since I needed them in pairs to take advantage of the $10.00 gift card when you spend $35 at Toys R Us, plus it gives me a figure to open up the Wizard of Oz and Lego Movie areas. My wife kind of cringed, but she likes building Lego so I let her do that as I installed the game.

I doubt that there is going to be any rarities for the figures. Where I went they had a ton of everything available.

Does anyone know what the next batch of Level Pack that are coming out?

So here's a potentially silly question... Do the booster packs come in pieces and you have to assemble them (mini-figures and all)?

But you also get Minifigs and Microscale stuff. As any Lego Thread visitor could tell you, some people would spend way more than that if they'd be exclusive :p

Seriously though, you're mostly paying for the Lego part, not the game part.

Edit: What exactly do you guys mean when you mention the "open world" of a respective character, and what's the difference between that and it's "level"?

There is probably an opportunity to reduce the cost by teaming up those that want the exclusive Lego minifigs/microkits, and those that want to unlock in-game content. One takes the Lego, the other just keeps the NFC bases.

Someone seriously needs to put together a buy list as soon as possible.

I need to know exactly what I have to purchase in order to unlock everything.

Yeah, for $30 there really isn't that much physical content in one of these level packs. The amount of pieces here is worth $5-$10. The level content for BTTF better be damn good.

I am definitely going to be choosy with what extra content I buy.

Doctor Who and Ghostbusters are a must.

I would get this.... during a sale.XD I would probably just get the starter, Ghostbusters level pack, and Scooby Doo team pack (cause can't pass a Ghostbusters/Scooby Doo crossover).:P How big are the levels from the starter and level packs?

I want a list of hubworld impressions as well.

If the level packs aren't that great, I'd probably just buy two Fun Packs to unlock the hubworlds instead.

Ok, I figured it out, each character can either jump into the portal for their own personal adventure or you can go to some side mission area that I thought was the actual mini games for the playsets. Game got a lot cooler, now to get The Simpsons and Ghostbusters playsets.

Sounds to me to stick with one fun pack per brand you're into, and on,y consider the level/team packs for those properties that won't have fun packs - eg portal

From what I've been reading about this, it sounds like a great bonding experience between parents and their kids. Sounds like building the kits is just as enjoyable, and takes about as much time, as playing the game itself. Truly interactive rather than just putting a figure on a portal, there's something rewarding about building it yourself. And its a good balance for kids - I can see this as a good defense against parents who want to discourage hours on end in front of the TV.

185$ to unlock wave 1 content ^_^

Back To The Future: the level here follows the story of the movie in the most skipping stone of ways. We follow Marty from Doc Brown’s garage to the mall parking lot. From there we go to the past, where we’re immediately tasked with hooking up wires to the clock tower to power the DeLorean’s trip back. We make it back, and that’s it. The whole thing played out in under 20 minutes, so maybe that hour was a generous estimate for this set. Disappointing content, but great music.

I hope there will be a price drop. 29,99$ is too much.

This is what I'm going for.

It's LEGO. The Legoland theme park here in Germany is a total rip-off.

Parents will hate the game. ^^

Warner knows that kids will ask their uncles, aunts, grand parents to buy the additional playsets. This game + the differents packs to JUST unlock wave 1 content equals the price of a Wii U.

Lego Dimensions will be a cash machine !

You Don’t Need It All

Repeat after that large, bolded bit right above this sentence. The LEGO Dimensions starter kit is packed with fun things to do, and I don’t foresee a shortage of sets in the long run. Start with that, and then collect other bits that interest you as you go along. Treat yourself or your loved ones with a new character here, a Level Pack there. Prolong that magic.

Hopefully this has been a helpful guide, and you’ve got a better idea of what enjoying all LEGO Dimensions has to offer means to you and your wallet. Happy building!

This is the way I see it. Just going to grab the content I want instead of trying to get everything.

If you want everything, well, your wallet will feel it.

That is what I suggested earlier in this thread. For those unsure, just start with the Starter pack and as you play you will see what you want to invest. If you find a certain level fun, then my that character to enjoy more of it or a level pack if you want even more. You can buy as little or as much as you want.

I'm so tempted. I love Legos and many of these properties.

Do we know if wave 5 will be the last? I imagine this will be a cash cow.

Is it just me that finds the pricing model on this game absolutely abhorrent?

I was considering buying just the starter as I could get it later on for $40 at Best Buy but reading it doesn't come with characters to cover all abilities killed that idea. This is a huge ripoff compared to normal Lego games.

It actually bothers me to see people eating it up as I fear it will take over and start killing those normal games.

Lego have always been expensive but I do wish there was a bit more game.

Out of curiosity, is anyone putting together a list of the previously unannounced Dimension Portal cameos from the story mode, like
HAL 9000 in the Portal stage?

I also saw
some gardener guy I didn't recognize pop out of a portal to water some plants in the Scooby-Doo stage, but he might have been from an IP that already has its own levels in the game.

Oh, absolutely. I collect some real Lego so I'm aware of the price. I just think the price you pay for what you get in this is God awful and don't want it to affect a series I've loved up until this point. It hurts more when there's at least four franchises in this that would have made great standalone Lego games.

Watching that simpsons hub world video - what's with the crazy pop-in with the scenery objects?

Really want to pick it up but can't justify the cost, and it's unlikely to get the usual discounts due to the risk of undercutting their regular lego sets. can't help but feel they should have scrimped on the portal, or sold it at cost in the hopes of recouping money via the add-on sets. The cost of entry is just too high for an 8/10 game, they needed to knock it out of the park but from the reviews I've read it's more of a natural evolution of the regular lego titles.

First months sales will be interesting.

Skylanders and Disney Infinity are already pricey enough. LEGO Dimensions seems to have overvalued itself and priced itself out of budgetary range for a lot of people.

Indeed. I love Lego. I'm 33 and got my wife to buy me the Delorean BTTF model from a year or two back. I've got two kids, one aged 7 and good disposable income. Me and my daughter love playing the Lego Movie game together. We'd both love the game and at least three of the add on world's for this hit my absolute sweet spot.

But £26.99 for BTTF at 20minutes clocked in time, coupled with the draw distance is absolutely obscene.

Free market and all that, plus I'm sure it will sell well enough but I'll be damned if I'm supporting it.

I'm not sure Fahey's list is entirely accurate. Some of the collectibles in-game can only be unlocked by characters with certain powers. He doesn't really explain whether he takes that into account or not.

I'm looking for a comprehensive buy list that allows me to spend the least amount of money to unlock all content. For example, in Fahey's list, why would I need every character from the LEGO movie?

There seems to be overlap. I want to avoid as much overlap as possible.

I was thinking of the pricing of figures for this and the pricing is not bad for the figures alone. Lego Dimension Fun packs come with a figure and another item/vehicle etc. for $14.99, whereas for Skylanders figure they are $12.99 for a figure only or Skylander Vehicles which are $14.99 and only for a vehicle. Infinity figures are $13.99 and again, it is just a figure.

So for figures alone, the value for Lego dimensions is pretty good considering what you get. For the Level packs, that depends on who you talk too. Some say 20 min of content, others say it is more. I think these should be at least $5.00 cheaper however.

Picked up the scooby doo set, probably going to wait till black friday to pick the base game (leaning to PS4 in stead of wii u), but waiting for impressions first.

Because the different Lego movie characters have different abilities, Emmet can fix things, Benny can hack computers etc.

In Canada Amiibos are $15.99 and the Lego Dimension's Fun Packs are still priced $14.99. So it doesn't look so bad. The Fun Packs are definitely well priced.
