LEGO Dimensions |OT| Not Lost Dimensions

Thanks to amazon price-matching Target's 40% off discount a while back, all of my "Wave 6" (is that what we are calling it?) Just shipped for arrival today, whoohoo!

Got every single one of the new sets for just a little over $100 total.

Heh. I didn't really research this at the time. I just saw the deal and got what I wanted without really researching everything that came out today. I got everything except the Adventure Time team pack. I should have probably just gone ahead and got that as well. Oh well.

The reason that Cyborg doesn't unlock the TTG hub is that is isn't in the game yet. The latest patch just added the worlds for Wave 6.

Code:
Version 1.10

Added support for:
Adventure Time™
Mission Impossible™
Ghostbusters™
A-Team™
Harry Potter™

The BTTF one was definitely the skimpiest. The Portal and Doctor Who ones were the best two (much longer and original stories instead of retellings), well worth the price. The Ghostbusters one is okay - reasonable length but still a retelling. The Midway one has basically no story at all, it'/ just an excuse to play some 80s arcade games, so your opinion will be based on how you like those.

Cool man, cheers for that. After the bttf one we didn't really look into the rest in year one. True be told, we're probably past those, but I do appreciate the information, I would maybe check out portal at some point and I actually really liked the Dr who level in the campaign despite not being a fan of the franchise. Will be watching to see what people think of the new stuff though with that as context!

Ugh... This content manager downloading is killing me. Each pack is a separate 1 to 2 gig download now. Ghostbusters is like 4 and a half. It's gonna take all day to download this stuff. =_=

About to go pick up my preordered starter pack. I've never played this before and am looking forward to it. Is my entire evening going to be spent downloading/installing the game and its updates and building the initial stuff?

I started downloading all the Season 2 stuff about two hours ago and I'm no where near done as far as I can tell. If you're going to play through all the original content before diving into Season 2 you're still going to need to download some pretty hefty patches.

If you search on LEGO's website you can find downloadable building instructions so you can at least put the pad and some sets together.

Has anyone played the Jurassic World hub? I'm wondering if it's fun and large enough to warrant a purchase? Or Oz?

Just asked my girlfriend and the boy about the Oz world, they both apparently liked it, my girlfriend launched into quite a few things that sounded neat about it. Not the most concrete answer haha but there it is for what it's worth

Jurassic World hub is, ironically enough, more movie accurate than the official Lego Jurassic World game's hub, includes an Indominus roaming about, swimming in the Mosa enclosure, and random raptor drive-bys.

The alternative was a 24 GB download each patch, instead of "just" 10 GB. This is better, if not great.

I just wish it allowed "predownloading". :(

Picking up the adventure time packs after work.. Wooooooooo.

I had ordered all the second season wave 1 from Target with Red Card when they had huge preorder sale on them a couple months ago. Just got an email stating they are delayed for shipping for some damn reason :( Was all ready to hop back into Dimensions this week. I guess I will boot up the game and download the new patch so that will be done when I finally get them.

At least then I would have only had to do one download instead of downloading the 2.0 patch then Ghostbusters then Mission: Impossible then Adventure Time and then A-Team.

The weird thing is the ones I got are available in store according to their online checker. One of them is available for shipping online, another one is 3-5 days availability and the last one is unavailable. I would think they could at least ship the one that's available.

Just out of curiosity, does it only download the level on demand? Or can I use the download manager to download a level even if I haven't activated the figure yet. I just ask because I got all my stuff in today, but it's intended to serve as birthday presents for my son that he's going to get this weekend.

You can download the data from the Download Manager without opening the packs at least on Wii U. It will show up as downloaded if he looks at it though.

Download Manager seems totally busted on Xbox One, I hope they get it sorted out this evening sometime. Bought the entirety of this new wave (it's such a good wave, every character is so fun to mess with) so I'm pretty eager to get into the new content.

Also the hub is showing me that Slimer, Staypuft, and Venkman can grant me access to the Ghostbusters 2016 world? That's a bug, right? It didn't seem to actually work when I tried it with them before I bought the GB pack today.

Also, Best Buy has all the Year 1 packs on sale right now.

GO GO GO!!!

yeah this sale is super good, picked up the Arcade pack for like $15ish which is about what i wanted to pay for it

Only got to play the Harry Potter hub world so far, and I'm already impressed with the extra work they've put into Year 2. Feels like there's a lot more to explore with more things to do. Looking forward to seeing what the other ones have in store.

Tin foil hat time but Target online has pulled this on me before with a pricing error/glitch on a preorder item they didn't like. I think it was a bluray preorder that was giving double giftcards. They send an email saying you have to approve the delay or they will cancel the order. It feels like they are doing it purposefully hoping people will ignore the email and lose whatever deal they got. I approved mine though so eat it Target and send me my half price Dimension stuff.

Also i was trying to pick up a couple bogo old fun packs to complete my collection on their site and surprise surprise the bogo they are advertising right on the items isn't working. Seriously Target get your shit together.

I remember an issue back in around January or February where they were advertising 50% off all Fun Packs via Cartwheel and I discovered in store that this apparently did not include any of the Fun Packs released that week.

Stuck waiting some extra time since i don't have Prime, but man i'm ready for my set of stuff to hopefully ship and get here from Amazon by the weekend! Hearing great things about the MI and Adventure Time levels.

I just played the M:I level and thought it was fantastic. I've never actually seen the movie and now I want to. LOL

My B. A. Baracus isn't being recognized by my portal, so I have to go try to return it tonight and get a new one. I have all of Year 1, and this is my first tag to not work. :(

So I must be missing something here. The new Starter packs with the Supergirl minifig are $49.99 (or $39.99 after GCU) at Best Buy. I just checked ebay and the Supergirl minifigs are selling for $45+ each?

That cant be right, can it?

I don't own Lego Dimensions but I'd be interested in the Harry Potter content. What kind of Harry Potter related stuff is in the game? I think I saw a developer playing in something like an open Harry Potter world during E3, what was that? And the expansion pack for the new movie, is that just a level or is it like a full game? I have no idea how Dimensions works haha.

It's probably right. I mean, it's silly in the context of the games being on sale. But if/when the PS4 starter pack goes back up to $90 next week it looks less silly. Still silly for one minifig, mind you. But more understandable.

Holy shit. You US folks can pick up the Supergirl starter pack up for 40$ off already O.o

Wish us Canadians had that :/

I haven't actually opened up my stuff yet so hopefully someone else can give you a better answer. However, my understanding at this point is that the current Team Pack will just open up an Adventure World. There's no story campaign for Harry Potter. There's going to be a Fantastic Beasts story pack in November. I think these new story packs are intended to be kind of a halfway point between the relatively short standalone level packs found in the first year of Dimensions and a full-fledged standalone LEGO game campaign.

Like I said, these are kind of crappy answers. But I haven't opened up any of my year 2 stuff yet.

An Adventure World? Is that just a level with no story just for screwing around? Meh. Not really interested in collecting other stuff or the physical figurines.

Thanks for the answer but meeeeeeeh. Might as well fire up the old Lego Harry Potter games at that point. You just saved my around 90€. 😄

The only thing I would caution is to keep a look out for any updates on how this new content might tie into an updated year 2 main campaign. I'm not even sure if it will happen, but I've seen mention that they might not be done with the Lord Vortech story started in the first one. So who knows. Maybe there'll eventually be Harry Potter stuff included in an updated campaign?

Steve got you very well covered but just to extrapolate a little, the ghostbusters story pack looks like it's around 3 hours of content judging by youtube playthrough so you could expect a similar lengthed experience for the harry potter spinoff set in November. Otherwise it really is just the adventure world, which is just a mini hub world. Bear in mind on ps4 though, there is coincidentally (or not) going to be a lego harry potter remaster collection , that might be a good shout if you want something *new* haha.

Are there any impressions of the Battle Arenas yet?

I made the plunge on Skylanders (got rid of them) and Disney Infinity Star Wars (but that just feels a bit dull), how does this compare? The gf and I still have LEGO TFA to play through though so this is a hard sell.

Honestly, it's really difficult for me to land on a solid assessment. For me, it's a great all around product. And I don't mind the cost investment just because it's something easily justifiable as a family expenditure as opposed to thinking of it as like a DLC budget for a video game. My son loves LEGO toys. He loves LEGO video games. It's a great mixture of the two things. It's the perfect Toys to Life product for us.

So, I'll start with what I think are the strengths. It oozes charm. While some of the level packs come across as lazy (I'm looking at you Back to the Future Level Pack), the overall campaign is something you really haven't seen before. None of the LEGO games up 'til now attempt to blend together the various properties. Further, even games that do have cross-franchise representation don't really attempt to tell one story. I know Infinity has some toy box stuff that's wide open, but in terms of playsets the various franchises remain quarantined. So it's just really neat to see all this DC Comics and LEGO Movie and Portal and Ghostbusters and... etc. come together in one story where characters are interacting on screen. Every individual franchise also having its own little hub world to explore also proved more endearing than I expected, and was particularly appreciated by my son who sometimes gets frustrated with the puzzle-based gameplay of the story levels.

The downside I think is just that you do need to be prepared to invest real money into this to get the most out of it. I mean, yeah, you can complete the main campaign with the starter set. But I just feel like there are hooks everywhere reminding you what you're missing out on. Hire-a-hero was added after launch as a decent compromise to allow you to not have to make the purchase for to get by this obstacle stopping you from that gold brick, but you just run into this stuff continuously. The other problem I've kind of talked about is just that I feel like a lot of the vehicle builds are rather superfluous. They're neat enough if you like micro-build LEGO stuff, but to me they neither make for great display toys nor are they often very useful in the game. There are some exceptions. But as a big fan of LEGO toys I find myself really digging the minifigs and really indifferent to most of the vehicle/item builds.

The other downside is that I'll note that most of the portal interaction wears thin pretty quickly. Initially, it's really cool that they've thought of a way to make it more interactive and not just as a mechanism for unlocking overpriced DLC. But particularly in later campaign areas where they are throwing portal-based puzzles at you left and right, it just starts to get tedious.

Overall, I really like it. But in terms of whether or not I'd recommend it I think it's really useful to know what you're expecting going in.

It looks like If you have already played with the Story Pack at least once, you can just enter the Adventure world with the older Ghostbusters characters.

I was wondering this. I was looking at all of the new portals and the Ghostbuster (2016) one was prompting me to download it. It was the only one doing so, so I did. I haven't gone back to see if I can actually enter it, but I just assumed since Stay Puft was in the new movie, maybe he granted me access to the hub.

I also wasn't planning on getting the Mission: Impossible level pack, but after seeing all the skills Ethan Hunt has... I think I may have to. How's the actual level (for those that have played it)?
