Hey LegoGaf,
When I see folks on here talking about "piecing out a set", does that mean they are taking a list of all the parts in a set they want and buying them individually? Most likely in the hopes it will be cheaper?
I'd like to finish collecting the Agents sets and the Volcano Base is money I would rather spend on a UCS set (over $200 for a complete set) so I was wondering if there were other ways to build it.
Any tips would be most appreciated! It's been fun following everyone on here. I don't really have much to add other than I finally entered the modular community and got Town Hall last weekend. What an amazing design.
You guys all rock (and it's not even compliment day).

Nope. I mean, that tends to be a big reason we buy a lot of sets we do. lol
I've always had a collector mentality for some odd reason, but I could never quite pin down what I wanted to collect. My family collects different things and I wanted to decide on something that would be "my collection".
So I remembered LEGO. It's taken some mental conditioning to convince myself I don't need to collect every single Lego theme, and now I only complete sets for themes I enjoy.
Unlike you artistic folk I...I have no talent whatsoever at making my own creations.
And then last year I discovered NeoGAF, then discovered they had an Off Topic thread, then LEGO, and now I have never been the same.

That Viper is awesome! I've thought about doing some BG MOCing like a Viper or maybe a Galactica.well I have had a certain LEGO itch for years, and then two years ago I got all my old LEGO from my parents, sorted it and built a few things like this Viper MkII
Then I sorted all the LEGO into neat boxes and put it aside.
All was well and my itch was no more.

This thread got me back into LEGO. I blame bone and wet. I had LEGO from probably the age of 5 through 15. I had a table that was 8 by 10 full, city layout mostly. The majority of that is still in my parents attic. I have collected and sorted 3 bins full of it so far.
The modulara and the Star Wars set were the biggest items that captured my lost iminagination and excitement. I bought fire brigade and SSD and it was all down hill from there.

It's a bit interesting, I never actually stopped being "into" Lego, I just stopped actually being gifted the sets. Back when I was a kid yes I loved Lego, I remember I had various space sets and who knows what else. I had a giant unsorted bin full of Lego that any sets I got would inevitably end up in, but when my family moved for the first time I knew it would be impractical to bring it all with me when it was true that at the time I was playing with them less and less, so we ended up giving away all of that except for a few Mindstorms kits I had. I never got the true Mindstorm but rather the cheaper one that could only be programmed on the brick (Robotic Discovery System I think it's called) as well as the two Star Wars Mindstorm sets that came with even more stripped down intelligent bricks (Sith Developer Kit and Droid Developer Kit).
A few years back I ended up buying the original NXT set (...Not long before 2.0 came out. I've cursed myself out for that plenty of times) after reminiscing about a robotics club I was in during High School that used the original Mindstorms education set. NXT was quite fun to toy with, I only wish I could think of more robots to make with it. Then early last year I was just looking around at various stuff and saw that the new Lego Millennium Falcon was on sale for $10 off or so on Amazon. I had always wanted a big set like the Millennium Falcon when I was a kid but they were just too expensive for my parents, so I went ahead and bought it for myself! Then a few months later I saw Shuttle Expedition and knew I had to buy that with the space shuttles being retired. Then I saw a MOC Tumblr for sale (Not Wetwired's, the one I got is bigger and has a Batpod built in) that was grossly overpriced (around $160 for about 450 pieces!) but I didn't know better at the time so caved in on that! Then I knew I needed an X-Wing to go along with my Millennium Falcon and put that on my Christmas list and got it, and then this month I literally exploded buying the Imperial Shuttle, Minecraft, Fury Interceptor, and Fire Brigade. And now I have my eye on Grand Emporium...
I just finished Fire Brigade yesterday in fact, it's pretty fantastic. I can barely reach into the first floor thanks to my big hands, but I'm more interested in it for display than play anyway. Doesn't look right by itself though! I need MORE! I need them ALL! ...Man I really wish I hadn't missed Green Grocer, looking at pictures I just LOVE its design. Doubt I'll be able to afford aftermarket prices for it anytime soon though (especially now as I need to get a Wii U after Nintendo's announcements the other day), and they'll only go up. Curse my bad timing! At least I got IS and FB before it was too late.

I wish I could tell you more, but I really haven't been part of the Lego user group before and I've just heard that they're able to order in bulk quantities; ie buy 10000 red chairs, divvy up 200 red chairs per per user group member for 5cents each or buy them individually on Lego.com picabrick for 15cents each: hypothetical 66% savings; even if we could save 33% it would be worth it possibly. The only snag is the shipping of parts and that extra cost...

I like how a lot of the Lego SUV's are some pretty stocky and solid vehicles. Like I could launch it off a table and it would stick together...or even scratch up the floor or something. I got this Chase McCain set and all of the vehicles are pretty cool, especially the sports car. These must be some high class thieves though. That isn't your everyday sportscar!
Huh, haven't been around in a while. Shows why I missed out on a lot, but I had no clue that the TMNT sets have been out. To those who have any of them, did they turn out well?
I never really got to have Lego growing up, although I always was curious about collecting them, especially when Bionicle was still around. It wasn't until the TT games and the LOTR sets that the temptation eventually broke me. XD

The figures are great but the actual sets are meh. The price is also inflated like the Star Wars sets.

I have now bought both fire brigade and grand emporium out of fear of retirement of those sets. While I want both of those lotr sets very badly I am pretty skeptical about internet rumors of obsolesene from now on.
Never heard back from the Post Office today. Pretty pissed off since Lighthouse is retired and trying to find a replacement seems to be difficult unless you want to pay for a markup. Anyone else deal with USPS lost packages? I haven't contacted the retailer / seller yet, just went directly to the shipper, should I try both routes?

I will get the Haunted House for sure and got a few of the Monster Fighter sets. This is expected as I'm not sure what they could have done for a 2nd wave of the theme.
Only the turtle lair and Krang lab set are of interest to me. I'm sure many want the figures, but don't care for the sets. Good thing is if you don't care which turtle heads you get (each turtle has 2 different head prints), you only have to get 3 sets for under $100 in US to get all 3 turtles and shredder.
Well, that doesn't sound too bad, although the lukewarm sets and bloated prices do irk me. Also, it's going to be hell to track down Monster Fighters pretty soon, isn't it? :/

LEGO website now has retiring soon/retired labels on sets. What this means is they won't produce anymore sets IMO. There still can be some stock somewhere that still needs to sell through. Fire Brigade is a perfect example. Amazon and Walmart seemed to have plenty and discounted them heavily recently. However, it's hard to tell how long the leftover stock will be around. Medieval Market is one that I'm wondering if I'll be able to find as my local LEGO store no longer carries it and it's sold out online. It was only recently marked as retiring soon.
Online also matters which region you are in. It may be sold out in one region, but not others.

The groom and bride aren't a big loss IMO. If you want the zombie driver, it's a reasonable price on BrickLink from some sellers ($3-$4). http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?itemID=109927

If you're lucky, you may be able to find the coffin polybag somewhere at TRU in the states which has the zombie limo driver.

I'm still waiting for that TMNT mech set to appear at my Lego store but yea a lot of those sets are pretty crummy looking, besides from the fact I'm not a fan of the look of the cartoon.
As for Monster Fighters...well I got every set except the polybags and the Haunted House so I'm safe. If it's true about them getting discontinued...why so darn fast?

I just realised I have a Zombie Driver as part of the 40076 polybag that I got free in last September's promotion. My Haunted House will have a car and a chauffeur.
The set sells for $15 to $20 on Bricklink/eBay so another way to get the Zombie Driver.

Two of the best sets around. Feels like the Winter Village Cottage is pretty underrated. Haven't seen many people in this thread buying it.

We are the same person. Toy Shop and Bakery in the last few months for me.
I also bought FB and GE due to this thread!
Going to buy a decent sized set next week...am leaning toward Town Hall before Pet Shop. I know Pet Shop gets a lot of love but I would like to get the more expensive one out of the way first...
