Is it sad that Doom is the main reasoning for me buying that set?
What actually got you guys back into Lego? assuming you stopped at some point during childhood.
That Viper is awesome! I've thought about doing some BG MOCing like a Viper or maybe a Galactica.well I have had a certain LEGO itch for years, and then two years ago I got all my old LEGO from my parents, sorted it and built a few things like this Viper MkII
Then I sorted all the LEGO into neat boxes and put it aside.
All was well and my itch was no more.
Then a year ago I made the mistake of buying some new LEGO
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=35152445&postcount=2604
and I have spent more on LEGO in the last year than on anything else xD
this thread isnothelping, I can assure you all

The Palace Cinema looks nice - if I wasn't moving to a new apartment I'd love to buy all the current modular sets!
Has Lego revealed how many modular units they are releasing?

This thread got me back into LEGO. I blame bone and wet. I had LEGO from probably the age of 5 through 15. I had a table that was 8 by 10 full, city layout mostly. The majority of that is still in my parents attic. I have collected and sorted 3 bins full of it so far.
The modulara and the Star Wars set were the biggest items that captured my lost iminagination and excitement. I bought fire brigade and SSD and it was all down hill from there.
I just preordered this at Amazon for $17.49.

Could we create our own LEGO User Group? Order parts together and ship stuff to those who commit?
I am weak.
That and Green Grocer were probably my two most expensive sets.
Tell me more....
City Excavator for $10 off (ignore the amazon MSRP, real MSRP is $40)
You magnificant son of a...I was going to pick up City Excavator this weekend to finish off my mine set. You just saved me nearly $15! Thank you!
Some person on Toys N Bricks is reporting that these sets will be discontinued by Spring:
All Monster Fighters except for Haunted House
Lord of the Rings - Battle of Helm's Deep
Lord of the Rings - Attack on Weathertop

I dont see alot of people buying or talking about the TMNT sets in here. Are they bad, uninteresting or just scarce?

Only the turtle lair and Krang lab set are of interest to me. I'm sure many want the figures, but don't care for the sets. Good thing is if you don't care which turtle heads you get (each turtle has 2 different head prints), you only have to get 3 sets for under $100 in US to get all 3 turtles and shredder.
Also, check out the WiiU presale card section next time you're at Target. The presale card for LEGO CITY Undercover costs $1 and comes with a free police minifig (and a bonus $5 gift card if you actually buy the game later). I found a ten on the rack... a few new heads later and I have a swat team!
LEGO website now has retiring soon/retired labels on sets. What this means is they won't produce anymore sets IMO. There still can be some stock somewhere that still needs to sell through. Fire Brigade is a perfect example. Amazon and Walmart seemed to have plenty and discounted them heavily recently. However, it's hard to tell how long the leftover stock will be around. Medieval Market is one that I'm wondering if I'll be able to find as my local LEGO store no longer carries it and it's sold out online. It was only recently marked as retiring soon.I have now bought both fire brigade and grand emporium out of fear of retirement of those sets. While I want both of those lotr sets very badly I am pretty skeptical about internet rumors of obsolesene from now on.
I'll never live down passing on The Zombies for $35, will I?
you just need need the Hayabusa Cusoo set and you have a cool space themed shelve (yes i'm tempting you)

The groom and bride aren't a big loss IMO. If you want the zombie driver, it's a reasonable price on BrickLink from some sellers ($3-$4). http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?itemID=109927
Bride and groom are around $10 each on BrickLink.
Another relatively cheap way to get a zombie is the Halloween set for $15. It has an alternate color of the Series 1 zombie. http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Halloween-Accessory-Set-850487
If you're lucky, you may be able to find the coffin polybag somewhere at TRU in the states which has the zombie limo driver.
Got home and found my latest purchase waiting for me.
Two of the best sets around. Feels like the Winter Village Cottage is pretty underrated. Haven't seen many people in this thread buying it.
I've only been skimming the thread somewhat for the last week or so, but I hadn't noticed if anyone had posted this article yet:
What Happened With LEGO
Really interesting analysis of LEGO pricing since the '80s and how they reinvented themselves to take advantage of the adult collectors about 10 years ago. Also noteworthy in that he accidentally figures out that LEGO sets have actually never been cheaper per brick than they are today.

It was the Star Wars Lego games that kind of raised my awareness. Then the Indiana Jones Lego came out which I swooned over and bought all of the first wave in one hit from eBay. I then discovered the Lego Digital Designer program which is where I designed the tumbler. Then discovered the modular sets, bought the green grocer and then it was all down hill from there...
I was too busy buying an older christmas set to fool with the latest one!
