LEGO: Lord of the Rings E3 trailer

These Lego games are a not so secret obsession of mine. They're usually fun, I can play them when the kids are up, and they really feed into my unhealthy achievement obsession. I've 1000/1000 6 of the games now and I'm waiting for #7 to come from Goozex.

So yeah this will be a must buy for me.

No shame in liking these LEGO games. They are a bit same-y at times but I am really in love with their style and charm.

This along with LEGO Batman 2 easily look like the best LEGO games to-date! Hope we have tons more in store down the road.

Now they just need to start porting the full versions to Vita. It has more than enough ram to handle it.

I'm disappointed that they still haven't improved the character switching mechanic.

Pressing a button cycle between people has always been annoying to me. Having the same button open a radial menu to choose which character you want would be much, much better.

Especially in Free Play mode when you switch between a dozen different dudes to find they one you want. The best thing about the old LEGO Star Wars DS game was that it let you hot swap between people using the touch screen.

Who knows, maybe the Wii U will get a version eventually that lets you do that!

So. Will it be open world on the Vita?

I noticed on amazon you can order the 3DS version for $29.99 but the Vita version is $39.99

Strange. Cause usually 3DS and Vita versions of multi-platform games are the same price.

Does this give us a shred of hope that the Vita version will be the full game this game? Or at least... fuller?

holy shit i JUST saw this trailer now... i knew it was coming.. but yeah, take my money NOW, this will be great... until then i still have Harry Potter Years 5-7 to play, i heard it's pretty good too :)))))

Amazon had this up on the store page's details
Explore all of the open-world of Middle-earth and experience epic battles with Orcs, Uruk-hai, the Balrog, the Witch-king, and other fearsome creatures.
Wield the power of the Palantír or Seeing-stone (?one that looks far-away?), and jump between multiple storylines.
Experience the LEGO The Lord of the Rings heroes come to life in an all new way with the minifig characters delivering the dialogue from the films.
Discover and unlock over more than 60 playable characters, including Frodo, Aragorn, Gandalf, and many others.
Collect and use a variety of weaponry and magical items, including the Light of Earendil, Elven rope, swords, and bows.

So maybe it IS open world?

That would be pretty awesome. But I'm struggling to see how they would do it. Even Gotham City in Lego Batman is fairly contained. That may mean 'open world' in the sense of being able to explore different parts of Middle-Earth.

Figured i'd bump this for a moment, because I had just seen this (late I know), but this just sounds fantastic. I'm not going to lie in that I really wish that an actual RPG developer would take a genuine crack at this concept, but Lego Lord of the rings sounds like almost the LOTR game that i've always wanted.

According to the rep the game will feature crafting, towns(some mentioned were hobbiton, Rivendell, etc)l, character customization( light RPG elements), 80 playable characters... It just seems like a huge step up from what i've heard of the previous Lego games.

I'm more than likely going to pick up Batman 2 aswell, but with all of this information this may actually be one of my most anticipated games for the rest of the year. They also mentioned that it's one entirely connected streaming world, so you'll actually travel through Farmer Maggots field, bree, the misty mountians basically everything from Hobbiton, to the Grey Havens.

Fuck I don't think i've nerded out this much for a game in a long time, I'm really hoping it's good. Kind of giddy to see Lego Nazgul, and Lego Ents.

This gets announced soon after the Lord of the Rings Lego set releases. I'm just saying, they recently announced Lego will now have Halo sets...

You can do that. In batman 2 (and I think it was the same for PotC), in story mode you tap triangle to toggle between active players on screen. In free play you can cycle between characters the same way, or hold down a button to bring up a selection menu.

Lego Spider-Man/Marvel sets have already been showing up. I think that's the more likely candidate if Disney's going to let Warner wet their whistle.

These games are often under-appreciated for being fantastic movie tie-in games. They should stop making licensed-based games altogether unless its lego. Really great idea, whosever it was, to use the characters/music/locations from a popular movie franchise but with an actual way to make a fun game out of all that.
