SF sucks for any kind of toy or games fan period. What little we have is priced well above what other cities have, and the selection is poor. Just one of the many reasons id like to move.

SF is too expensive for families and the side effects of that are on very clear display.

I want to know who that older guy is and what he worked on. He just looks like he is chilling, knowing his skills are beyond everyone's. Like the old man in a kung fu movie. He never shows off, but when provoked, something incredible is unleashed.
 
I just got this email, what a nice surprise, watching the film 1 week in advance and for free is not too shabby. My son is going to love it. anyone else?

In previous years, every large set that was a "direct" set would have the 10000 series numbering, but that seems to have changed this year, with both the Simpsons House and the Sea Cow adopting their theme numbering instead.

I am definitely getting a train bug...I can feel it setting in.

Some questions for train veterans out there...the IR remote has two dials. My passenger train currently uses one of these, but not the second. Does that mean I can control another train without investing in an additional remote?

Am I better off buying the standard edition trains and then picking up additional motors, IR Receivers and battery boxes separately?

I'm deciding between the sets below. I'm definitely going to need a bigger table...that's for sure.

Each IR receiver has 2 outputs (red and blue), which are controlled by the corresponding color wheel on the remote. This would be for control of different elements on the same train. However, each IR receiver and remote also has 4 channels, controlled by a switch, so you can set each train to a different channel on its respective receivers, and then change channels on the remote to control different trains.

I've bought it both ways, but I don't think they include the more expensive rechargeable battery boxes when you get them in the kit.

For recent cargo trains, I think the 10219 Maersk Train is the best, but it is OOP. Both 3677 and 7939 have their strengths, and it is a matter of personal preference. There is also the new Cargo train 60052 coming out this summer.

For recent passenger trains, the Horizon Express is the one to get.

It's a lot more expensive ($50 + $25 power cord, versus $13), but it is also a lot more convenient, especially for trains where getting the battery box in-and-out is not a simple matter. You'll only need one power cord though, if you decide to go with multiple rechargeable boxes.
 
Actually, now that I think about it, you could control 2 trains with just the two controller wheels without changing channels on the remotes. Just plug one engine into blue and the other into red. I've just never done it that way, as some of my trains have multiple PF.

Still have most of the parts for this. Missing one of the giant blue windows and one curve of the track. The curve annoys me because without it I cannot assemble a full track. Garr.
 
Always wanted the Airport monorail, but my parents got me the space one instead. Always bugged me as a kid... nothing against Space, but I was always into city-building. (I was OBSESSED with the original SimCity.) Plus, I was really fascinated with Tokyo's airport monorail, and the longer track would have allowed me to extend it into my city... dammit, now I need to rebuild my city. One day...
 
So I found out that my Carribean Clipper box was full of what I initially thought to be instructions is actually full of old magazines and Shop at home catalogs. I have a ton from the 90s. Check it out. It was a nostalgia trip.

I called Lego for the first time today, to confirm my Bricks & Pieces order. Unfortunately they didn't in fact have the brown pillar in production, although they tracked down 3 of them for me. The rest is coming though, so my Flagship will soon be (99,5%) complete!

It's really excellent service, either way, tracking down individual pieces like this. Of course Bricklink is cheaper and faster in most cases, but I can't see many other companies helping with this fairly trivial (in the long run) stuff.

I mean, imagine if I called Sony and wanted a loose manual for a game I bought in 2009. I doubt they would bother.

Too many hours of my life went into those catalogues and club magazines (like all the ones posted) with no regrets.

This weekend is my birthday and I think my girlfriend is taking me and her daughter to lego land :) anything to know before I go? Are their PAB selections usually good? It's the one in FL btw
 
I love the movie fig of Emmet with his "How to fit in, have everyone like you and always be happy" instructions. Nice little touches like that make LEGO so brilliant.

Taco Tuesdays guy is my favourite though.
 
I have a particular fondness for the 94 catalogs, such a good good year. I wish I had somewhere to permanently display the Sail n' Fly Marina set
 
Maybe. And the product listing doesn't say "retired" on the US. Perhaps they're listing it as "Sold Out" until they can fulfill the existing back orders. When I checked last week, it wasn't shipping until late March.
 
Hah that's awesome Calm. Funny what you remember from being a kid. I recognize just about everyone of those catalogs and magazines.
 
The rover is coming back in stock, lego learned their lesson from the Minecraft fiasco.


Incidentally, do you guys figure NYC Toy Fair would be interesting? I may go up to NYC to visit a friend that weekend anyway and can probably use a different friend's business to get in to the show.

Further anchors the inverted flower pot to the underside of the roof. Just attaching the put to the underside would not be very strong of a connection, and simply attaching the 2x2 round plate to the pot would not be that strong either.

Maybe it's for extra stability?

I notice a lot of official models are much sturdier than my own creations, and I assume they actually engineer designs to be as such.

I wonder if they have to have a certain strength to them. Or whether certain advanced building techniques are required to use specific ways, such as a circular 2x2 plate HAS to go on studs and not just fitting on top somewhere (as in example above).
