LEGO |OT 3| Build Hard. Buy Fast. No Mercy.

Man everything decided to arrive today... Simpsons House, Jabba's Sail Barge, some Fabuland vintage stuff + some non LEGO items. Had trouble carrying it up!

Something I noticed about the Simpsons set, the bricks seems to be much lower quality than other sets. The tan brick especially doesn't fit flush with one another and there are a lot of plastic flash on all of the bricks.

That is really disappointing, hopefully it's an isolated case. I don't like it when stuff feels lower quality like some CMF's.

Not a build as such, just something I did:

I permanently glued some 2x8's to my monitor to have some display space for Lego stuff on top of it. Since I removed the shelves I used to have there, I can't put as much stuff there anymore, and I couldn't just balance anything on there. Also, it could be a challenge to build stuff that actually fits on that ledge. Currently it houses my Hobbit good guys.

I finished getting all the dwarves this month so looking at what you did I might want to do the same... nice idea! I might try gluing velcro onto them though.

That mega figure of Venom is a huge want of mine... such a big Venom fan and I like the bigger version more than the small one.

RE: Simpsons lego piece quality... i got mine today so i will be on the lookout. really sad if that is the case in every box of these :( I guess we are beginning to see just how they got the price to $200 instead of the $250 many predicted. Maybe *all* of these pieces included are china plastic now?

RE: bike shop... really love it, hope this is a new trend for smaller modular buildings. We get 1 huge modular a year, would be nice if they supplement that with 1 or maybe 2 Creator buildings that fit the theme

RE: friends mall... I agree that it feels lacking, however, it is noteworthy for containing a new boy minifigure... this one has light brown hair, or is it red? (the other two are blonde and dark brown)

Cafe and Bike Shop set looks very interesting... like a less-detailed 2-story modular.

Heartlake Mall is just a bunch of open-air shops, loosely tied together... meh.

Ultra Agents looks crazy. Hopefully get a look at the larger sets soon.

The Phantom looks rather plain, but rumor has it that it can combine with the larger Ghost ship.

B-Wing looks appropriate for a system-scale set.

Train Station looks "ok"... hopefully will include a length of track and a crossing.

more to come apparently...

I'm excited for more buildings so I love the bike shop. Agents looks like it's bring back all the neon green pieces from M-tron/Blacktron era which is cool. I'll definitely be buying the B-wing since I missed out on the last model. Disappointed in the mall though.

Looks good but I'm not sure it will be worth $90. I hate the new City markups.

That's why I've only bought one of the 2014 CITY sets so far - I'm waiting for sales or promos (like triple VIP) to pick them up, as they are too expensive otherwise. If I have to wait until next Christmas (or around Black Friday) to get these sets, I'm ok with that.

14 to 15 months after buying the thing, I finally built grand emporium.

So pretty.

Why did my girlfriend have to get us hooked on this expensive hobby.

Wonder how long til I cave on pet shop.

Finally started on my backlog and built Fire Brigade today. I only got up a couple times to pee and once to eat and my legs are sore, haha.

Finished product looks awesome. Not sure which modular to do next.

Chronological release order. That means Grand Emporium next, then Pet Shop, then Town Hall, then Palace Cinema, then Parisian Restaurant.

It's ludicrous... City should be their most affordable line after Creator. It has the advantage of being license-free and it should be priced as such. I don't know why they fuck that up but I buy almost none of them as a result. I do lookout for them in sales though.

As they continue to use more and more Chinese-made parts in their sets I don't think they can continue to justify these kind of prices when so many similar brick toys are way more affordable. The line has to be drawn somewhere.

Guess I have to wait until I get home to see the videos, drat!

And yeah, the markup on CITY sets is ridiculous, those sets used to be affordable back when it was Town.

LEGO has been experimenting with pricing. You could see it with the City Coast Guard sets that were all marked up. I guess those sold well so they're continuing with the increased pricing.

I'm curious why LEGO priced The LEGO Movie sets as low as Creator sets. They really wanted those sets to be popular.

THe thing I'm most stoaked about the Movie sets is how well they are priced. The prices still blow my mind.

Well since City is probably the most popular outside of Star Wars, or maybe even more so. Guess they figured since parents will always buy those they may as well try and cash in.

None of the movie sets seem to be overpriced. Quite a few are just at or below the magical $.10 a piece mark, but most seem to be well below that.

It is really quite nice.

EDIT: I bought Lord Business's Lair the other night but havent opened it. I just looked at the parts on Brickset and saw this:

What in the? New part for 2014, and looks bonkers. Could be a big game changer for MOCs, much like this part:

My guess is that the movie sets are gateway drugs essentially. Bring them in with a product they are familiar with ("I just saw movie, now I want the toys") and then hook them for life.

Now let's hope that Benny's Spaceship! Spaceship! SPACESHIP! is the biggest success of all. Then we can get Space System Reborn.

We should be getting some pictures of the final sets next week at the German Toy Fair, and then the full monte a couple weeks later in New York.

Ultra agents meltdown: I hope that is a hazmat guy in white!

Bike shop: Poor mans modular, and I don't mean that in a bad way. Nice gateway set to wanting modulars.

Chima ice mamoth: Holy trans pieces Batman!

That one seems particularly interesting!

Would fit in a city quite nicely. Doesn't look like it has an open back, but that can be easily modified. Would like more City sets like these:

(More buildings, less vehicles though)

(Shame this one didn't make throught the cuusoo review)

Man, that Chima Mammoth set is a must-have. Lots of minifigures (Mammoth!), and trans-blue parts. Need to scrounge bricklink afterwards to collect more of those trans-blue parts.

The Grey B-Wing looks so boring compared to the nice X-Wing/Y-Wing/A-Wing/TIE Fighter ships, but I guess I need one in minifigure-scale to fit in the series.

Does that hallway on the right lead to 3 bedrooms and a bathroom? It looks a lot like my friend's house!

Tell your wife you need to give them a higher profile and move them to eye level. That may convince her to let you keep them up there :) Dust often though.

Very close, 3 bedrooms/2 bathrooms. Lego room is in the basement, just not quite ready to go yet. Needs flooring and a ceiling.

Better yet - tell your wife you need to keep them up there and out of the range of your 4 year old. LEGO are a choking hazard afterall...

LOL, love the way you think.

She won't admit it, but it is growing on her. If only there was a Lego Stargate or Serenity. She'd be all for that. She posted the pic on facebook expecting everyone to laugh, but most said something like, "My husband has C3PO and R2-D2 on a shelf" or "love the ships!"
