Lemmings for NDS?

lemmings.png

Any chance this game will come out for NDS?

The stylus would be perfect for it.

If not are there any similar games currently available for it?

I will probably get it for PSP but don't think it will play as well (although the 16:9 screen will be nice)

Nope, Psychnosis, the developer who has the licence of the Lemmings series, is owned by Sony Computer Entertainment (Sony World Wide Studios to be exact). So the chances of the Lemmings coming to the NDS are non-existant. Although it could happen if.. No, that would probably never happen. :)

The DS is too low-res for a decent port. Even the Amiga version ran at 320x240 -- a far cry from 256x192.

The Lynx had an excellent conversion from DMA Design themselves, and that was on a 160x102 screen.

But, since Sony owns the Lemmings franchise, the odds of an official DS conversion being released are virtually nil.

Psygnosis are Sony Liverpool now to be exact.

This game is being developed by Team 17 though. Gamespot and IGN have Sony Computer Entertainment Europe down as the publisher, but the last publisher of a Lemmings game was Take Two interactive. I've seen more than one site claim they bought the rights in 2000. Perhaps with how close T2 are thanks to the Rockstar connection, this has since brokered the other way..

It's why we have the superior Pikmin.

As in Worms, if you could scroll the upper screen with the plan on bottom screen, it would remain a great port. Won't happen though.

I'd love to see a Lemmings clone based in the "Feel the Magic / Rub Rabbits" world. Having little men do crazy stunts pdigging, hang gliding] to get a kiss from the girl at the end of the level would be hilarious. The style of music fits well too. :D

Technically speaking, all of the trademarks owned by Psygnosis is owned by Sony. That Lemmings game, was probably developed by the then DMA under license from Sony meaning Sony gave them permission to use the IP again.

Its pretty logical considering that 1) before Psygnosis was folded into SCEE, they developed for competing platforms even though they was owned by Sony and 2) Sony didn't have a competing portable platform.

The western support for the DS has been absolutely abysmal. Where are the puzzlers, adventure games, and (decent) strategy games? It can't cost much to make a decent game, or even port an old favorite.

Say what you will about the handheld's shoddy graphics and gimmicky touch screen features in most games, but the design lends itself especially well to puzzlers.. (it would be perfect for Wetrix!)

We had a year long Lemmings tournament on HP 48 ! 131x64 and monochrome. Still it was playable and enjoyable...

While I agree that it would't be perfect, I still think that it can works fairly well... Besides, I take touch screen interface for resolution.

BZZT! Wrong.

There's already a homebrew version of Lemmings for the GBA. All the graphics and sound were ripped from the Amiga version of Lemmings. It looks and sounds spot-on 100% like the Amiga version. The guy who coded it is in process of learning the DS (he has a DS version of Frogger on his site) and has said in a forum posting that he might possibly make a DS version of Lemmings with stylus and dual screen use. If he feels like it.
