Let's talk about Marvel's iconic character Storm/+who would u cast in next Xmen movie

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
In the Marvel movie universe, Cap is my favorite character largely due to the actor who plays him with Thor/Wolverine a close tied 2nd.
In the comic books however (and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom series or any game appearance) Storm is my top fave. She's also an important character as I believe she's the first, or one of the first prominent female African American superheroes. Storm also has a great backstory (unlike a lot of comic book characters). Unfortunately, for as much of the movie universe the Fox films got right (Wolvie, Jean, the first 2 and last 2 films being great) they completely botched the character of Storm. Her character was underwritten, her power downplayed, had no real authority and worst of all was the unfortunate casting choice of the mediocre Halle Berry as the character (which I have been fuming about since 2000). I will never forgive Halle for what she did to my Storm.
Look at how beautiful, tall, regal, elegant, dominant and powerful comic book (and game) Storm is:

She's also a born leader and an omega level potential making her one of the most powerful mutants around (not the weak sap from the movies):

The movie version is a joke in comparison

Who would you cast as Storm in the next movie Xmen: Apocalypse if they really do end up including a teen Storm/Jean/Cyclops?
My top 2 choices are:

Zoe Saldana (long haired Storm!)

She's kicked ass in many films, really has the tall/slender look for it, beautiful face and has the acting ability for it imo. The only downside is they waited too long to nab her and as gorgeous as she is, I don't think she can pull off "teen". Maybe early 20's if they just fudge the timeline a bit. And honestly, the timeline of the films is a total mess at this point so it's not like that would really matter.

My other choice:

Lupita Nyong'o (just IMAGINE her as mohawk Storm! <3)

She's gorgeous, young enough to pull off late teen, an award winning actress and has the elegance and grace that Storm possesses that Halle does not. Plus it would benefit both the film to have another award winner involved, and benefit Lupita by having her in an iconic role in a movie series that's guaranteed to do really well.

*sigh* One day I might get my wish of seeing an amazing film rendition of Storm, for now, I'll go back to playing UMvC3 to see her done justice on screen

One part budget, one part Singer being scared to do big action scenes until DOFP at least and one part Halley Berry sucks. Comic Storm is stupid strong and makes everyone ELSE look like Jobbers. She should go toe to toe with Magneto and comic Magneto is stupid powerful to, his powers work at atomic level

Lupita as badass mohwak Strom with ATTITUDE!!

She should fight like Electro in the latest Spider-Man movie

Lupita would be good for sure, I think Saldana would be good but she's tied up with the true MCU now as Gamora.

I could NOT AGREE MORE!!! I was so angry that she wasn't Storm. I mean, yes, Hallie Berry is gorgeous, so that was a consolation prize, but they never wrote her well, and couldn't initially decide if she should have an African accent or not.

For as much as I love some of the X-Men films (namely, X2 and DOFP), there are plenty of characterizations that they either got wrong or barely gave them time, with Storm and Cyclops suffering by far the most (when they're arguably the two most important to the team, both being team leaders).

Her scene in DOFP was so disappointing. That it looked like it took a monumental effort for her to
ignite the engine core of the Blackbird with a few measly lightning bolts
left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Bring on an actor who is serious about the role and let the character show the fuck out on the big screen for once.

Halle Berry is a pretty awful Storm. She doesn't embody her character nearly as well as most of her castmates do in their own roles. Her look is wrong, her attitude is wrong, her whole tone is off.

Lupita has the right look, for sure. I can't speak to her acting because I've never seen her act.

oh man I agree with you guys, Angela Bassett would have been great if they cast her back in 2000! She has the qualities needed for pull off Storm including an authoritative and strong personality! There's more Storm fans on GAF than I expected :D

YES EXACTLY! :) She needs to be portrayed as being on the same level as Mags and Jean. I also secretly wish the latest Fox films had flopped so they sold the movie rights back to Marvel.
Most of Marvel's recent films have been great, especially Winter Soldier, and the one thing they do better than ANYONE is casting. Pretty much every character in the Marvel movie universe from Chris Evans to Robert Downey Jr. is PERFECTLY cast. You know they'd be eyeing down someone like Lupita for Storm if they got the rights back and were able to reboot the Xmen universe and integrate it with their already impressive movie universe *salivates at the thought*

Oh, I didn't even know Grace Jones was an influence in creating Storm, but I DEFINITELY see it!

Skinny but not starving, someone with angular but tight muscles.

Powerful, the type of person who can speak like a human being with her friends, but a goddess to her enemies or those she wants to inspire - basically a black Cate Blanchett.

Angela Basset was the old school true choice. She can act! She can actually pull off an accent (they never nailed what Storm's accent is supposed to be, I'd guess Egyptian since she was a street thief in Cairo). The problem was that they wanted the cast to be comparatively young (even though Storm is pretty much team Mom and a mature leader in most of her appearances in the comic books). So we get the Halle Berry mistake.

New school...Lupita Nyong'o all day long. She has the height, the grace...yasss, as the kids say these days. :)

And a big NO for Zoe Saldana. But I'm just still pissed about the Nina Simone thing. Don't mind me.

Singer has had how many movies to get Storm and Scott correct and has failed each time. So by the laws of transitive properties, they should cast someone shitty like Halle to continue the trend. Fuck, pick Zoe.

Lupita would be good, but I'd hate to see someone with talent be reduced by playing nerfed Storm.

I avoid Halle movies cuz I'm so salty over what she did to Storm *not that I'm missing anything, did y'all see Cloud Atlas?

Check out 12 Years a Slave! It's not easy to watch, but my girl Lupita can ACT, she is the highlight of that movie. (plus she won an award for it)

Let's not go down that road. She may be wrong for Storm, but Halle's a fantastic actress. :(

The problem I see is that I'm not altogether sure how much of Storm's mediocre portrayal in films is actually Halle's fault. We can blame the acting, but really NOTHING about how Storm is portrayed in the films (everything from the dialogue, to the styling which Halle actually has no control over) is the quintessential Storm we know from the comics.

Methinks what they've been going for since the beginning is a Storm that could be more palpable to American audiences, and not comic book fans. I mean, you write Storm as a Stepford Wife and that's what you're going to get, regardless of who's playing her.

Dofp....Halle berry only gets one line and a short action scene. She was pregnant on set. How can anybody inference how shit storm was from that minuscule time she was on screen

Angela Bassett back in the day would've been the best choice. These days... I really don't know.

Halle is okay given certain roles. Strong commanding roles sure isn't one of them, which is what Storm would require. I blame Halle and Singer, but more so on Singer and whoever else had a hand in having her scared over "Toad". Like, fuck you.
