Life is Strange | Spoiler Thread

I mean I kissed Chloe and also Kissed Warren. that's my Max

Finally finished. Games like this I knew there's going to be a head trip stage. I wished they went another route.

Episode 4 is my favorite

So did anyone find out what happened to the homeless woman at the Two whales diner, thought she would have some story arch or "twist" - maybe we'll see her in season two.

What's everyone's favorite pictures? I like the fish tank all lit up when you break into Blackwell. Loved that whole sequence, probably the best part of the game.

What about favourite butterfly effect? Mine is, without a doubt, watering Lisa, the houseplant. It lets you know how serious this game is early on, in a "Yes, we're tracking that" kind of way.

My mind says "giant squirrel" but my heart says Max's selfiebomb (the selfie collage).

Gotta go with the heart, as always.

Oh, also: can anyone point me to a good post mortem or developer interview about the game?

It's not about the story but here is an interview from the boss of Dontnod about the episodic format.

I'm hyped for Vampyr now, after reading what the story would be about:

Sacrificed Arcadia Bay.
BFF.

What a great game.

I feel really bitter about that ending. It's the only ending I can be expected to choose (I love Chloe too much) but it is so horrible, on a production value level, compared to the other ending. It's like if you are lucky enough to choose Sacrifice Chloe, you'll get a way better experience, and if you are unlucky enough to choose Sacrifice Arcadia Bay, then you'll be hampered by budget cuts.

I still loved the game. It is my GOTY so far.

If you haven't seen this yet, here is a fan continuation of the Sacrifice Arcadia ending:

Cool, thanks for the link. It's really well done, all things considered.

Something so elegantly simple would be a good way for DONTNOD to approach ending epilogues in the future, making it essentially a showcase of decisions and consequences, as well as a hint of what's to come. It could provide closure while also being open-ended.

Reminds me that I've gotta see the "Sacrifice Chloe" ending some time... But I can't bring myself to just flat out watch it on YouTube. I'd much rather play through LiS again and earn the ending myself. The evocative nature of completing the game on my own enhances the endings, I think. But even still, it'll be a while before I'll feel strong enough to go through it again; it's such a journey.

What a game.

It's funny that a close majority chose to sacrifice Cloe, and that this is also the more fleshed out ending, so it seemed natural for DONTNOD that this would be the most chosen/more important from the start.
Well, thanks to youtube I saw both, but saving Cloe was mine. It's a shame for many other characters I liked and who might have died because of me, but hey, at least Warren got a kiss.

I think the direction they went with was better than a forced "look, they're happy!". It could have been more fleshed out though.

You know, I don't remember seeing this at all and now I'm curious... does it occur in every playthrough or only the ones where you spot creeper Warren camping outside Max's window? (I missed the scene.)

It's possible I saw it and blocked it out.
It's during the stealth section in ep5. You have to turn a corner by where Samuel is and just off in its own little area is Warren's locker and that's what you find.

Oh, darn. I definitely missed it, then.

I couldn't stop myself from finishing it mid-Ep4 onwards and I probably missed a lot of stuff due to this.

I can finally enter this thread safely!
Ahhh, just finished EP. 5.

Dammmn. Loved the whole thing. Played through it with my wife (first story based game to have done so) which made the whole thing more enjoyable. We decided on the Save Chloe choice, but obviously went straight to YouTube when we were finished haha.

She thinks the Save Chloe choice is better because it holds onto the narrative more, as in its literally the same timeline, and is the actual culmination of all that drama and choice. Also said that if you loose Chloe, you loose the only person who knows and understands all that you went through, which I can kind of understand.

I feel that the save Arcadia timeline is better because Max kind of shows actual growth if that makes sense. It also would be a shame to have invested in all there relationships, just for them to die. Chloe, as much as I loved her character, did kind of suck Max in. I think Max, and everyone kind of deserves to be able to explore all these relationships.

Anyway mad props to DontNod

Well, just made Life is Strange the 1st game I've finished in 2016.

Loved all of it, and it genuinely managed to surprise me more than a few times, which is always nice in this kind of game. I must be a terrible judge of character because I really liked Jefferson... whoops! I'd say Episode 1 was the weakest (as I'd expect with this kind of game), but after that it just kept getting better.

In the end, I saved Arcadia Bay. One death vs thousands (and lots of property damage) was a pretty easy choice to me - plus, Max went 5 years without even texting her, so I don't feel too guilty.

The reason I chose to sacrifice Arcadia is because it is a shit hole.

No I'm joking, the reason is that Max was too much of a coward in the initial bathroom scene. She should have stepped in right away and saved Chloe, her cowardice lead to either the death of her friend or face the consequences of the effects of time manipulation.

Had she saved Chloe, that would be the original timeline. Going back could have ensured her friends survival and the entire towns. I couldn't let her die due to Max's mistake.

Good game overall, I still give Heavy Rain the nod as the best in the genre but this is second place.

Here's, IMO what people miss when they say "man that #BaeoverBae ending sucked, budget cuts, etc etc"

What if... what if, when you go back to that bathroom and watch Chloe die - that is exactly what happens in life? No time travel, because that obviously doesn't exist at the moment (and isn't explained at all in the game - to that purpose). No rekindling and/or falling in love with Chloe (because she's dead before you can rekindle with her). No week of insanity, no snow on a sunny day, no double eclipse moon yadda yadda. That's all just a flash in your mind when you see Chloe die, sort of like how people expect their lives to flash before their eyes a moment before their own mortality is presented.

Maybe that's why Dontnod has such disparate endings from one to the other. The one with seemingly more effort is the one that resets everything right to the moment where you "discovered you had super powers" (you didn't) and chose to forego them (and clearly didn't use them again... hmmmmmm).

All of the pictures that show things happening like the teacher being arrested are things that happen by the normal course of life. All of the things you wished you did only remain in your mind/memory, because that's the only place where they played out?

Just a thought. Maybe someone can explain it better than I can.

To be honest, I didn't expect Jefferson to be the killer. That actually caught me in surprise.

As for my final choice, save Chloe. I feel that going back to time and letting Chloe die would mean nothing happened. Nada. Yes, it averts the storm but everything that Max and Chloe lived those days would disappear.

Yeah I've finished this game 30 minutes ago and IMO the beauty of the sacrifice-cloe ending is that it changes Max as a character. She matures due to all the events, although they technically didn't happen and yet they matter to her greatly. She learns that loss is an inevitable aspect of life although it is hard to accept, a theme that is prevalent in many instances in the game imo.

Regarding the game...soooo soooo sad. Sacrificing Chloe felt horrible but to me it was the only choice that felt right. I was deeply moved by the ending and their chemistry, the friendship was pictured beautifully by the devs.

For whatever reason, I thought it would be David or Rachel Amber were the killer. Rachel Amber faked her own death because she wanted 'more' and wanted to be a celebrity (she was already popular in town) but didn't want Chloe in her life anymore. I thought Nathan would be acting on Rachel's orders at the beginning of the game to leave no traces, the drugs were a ruse, Chloe was in a desperate situation and Rachel knew it but they weren't anticipating Max's 'powers.'

My "David is the killer" theory seems to be because I thought he was an absolute jerk regardless of his military service and he was ultimately investigating himself without realizing it. Although I did like his explanation in Episode 5 and thought it was the best handled denoucement of his character compared to the others.

Looking back at Jefferson's lecture in the first episode, it told you everything about his plans. His explanation of his plans at the ending weren't really necessary.

I also was hoping the whole game was in Max's head and she was in fact Rachel Amber (since we never seen her).

Still, given those theories, I liked how the game turned out.

I also thought that Max was related to Rachel. For a long time I was convinced that Rachel actually was Max, only in a different timeline and that the later twist consists of an explanation that both Max-Max/Rachel-Max cannot exist in the same timeline.

The beginning of Episode 4 wrecked me. Even if the dialogue and writing wasn't that great a lot of the time, Dontnod managed to craft relatable characters that genuinely resonate with you. Just a fantastic experience overall.

Yeah. I'm still watching the end of episode one from time to time. So well done. I want more games that have that kind of coming of age theme.
And I like how dontnod easily bested Quantic Dreams and telltale with their first effort at this genre.

Ha, I thought this was the case too.

Anyway, just beat the game saving Chloe. Can someone explain what Chloe being alive has to do with the hurricane? From what I remember, at the start of the game, Max already had visions of the disaster right? Also, what's the deal with the doe?

Isn't there a saying that a wrong flap of a butterfly could cause a storm? I guess it's related to that. You alter the time and cause the storm because of that. It's more of a metaphor with the blue butterfly and Chloe having blue hair.

finished. I actually liked chapter 5, the ending is a little odd though.

My questions:

What about the deer? I know the janitor said it's her spirit animal, and her powers didn't work on it at the junkyard...

Where did her powers come from?

My thoughts, non-story:

Really liked the optional photos, though I missed a ton, esp in ep 5. A nice way to put a "game system" into a game that doesn't really need any and w.o being intrusive.

Always got hung up on the "use my power and now i'm inside / have the item" parts.

Hated, hated hated collecting the bottles in the junkyard.

Story
Chapter 2 was weak, except for the Kate part.

edit: and DONTNOD being dontnod, wasn't surprised a time warp was within a timewarp, ala remember me's embedded memory hacking

It's been 3-4 hours since I finished the game and I still feel sad. Have been thinking non-stop about Cloe's death.

Fuck dontnot

i love them

Srsly can't remember the last time a story affected me this much.

I sacrificed Arcadia Bay and it still took me like a week to get over the game. It didn't help that I was playing Fallout 4 during that week and that game has absolutely no impact to any of its storytelling or characters, though playing Undertale right after did help.

I never thought Max was Rachael but for awhile I expected Rachael would have been found to have similar powers. Instead of rewind time, she pushed it forwards or something.

Been thinking about this game all day even though I finished it last night. Been awhile since a game left such big impact on me.

I wish they cut out the weird dream sequence in Episode 5 and instead allocated those resources to making the Save Chloe ending better. That sequence didn't really serve any purpose other than to mind-fuck the player. The only part that serves a story purpose is when Max walks through the dark void while reminiscing moments she shared with Chloe throughout the game, but they could have easily replaced it with a quick non-playable flashback sequence that showed all those memories instead. Sure, the episode would be 30 minutes shorter but at least everyone would get a good (quality-wise) ending.

In the sacrifice Chloe ending, how does Jefferson get caught? Everything gets undone, Max wouldn't know about Jefferson as soon as she leaves the frame as was established. What happens with Kate?
