Life is Strange | Spoiler Thread

Hi, just checking in on the content advisory again since more eps are out. Is there more violence, sexual content, or violence toward animals in the latest episodes? Thank you.

Im not quite sure how specific you wanted this to be so I put this in spoilers just in case because I kind of got specific
Dead animals are often showed/talked about. Some instances it's very depressing. In one of the more important confrontations can lead to a dog being shot, could also be very sad/depressing.

Compared to what episode?

I was told there are dead birds in an early episode.

Thanks, Choomp. Can you actually be more specific? Although. I guess don't bother. I don't think I can play anything like that. Too distressing to see. Thanks for the information, though, sincerely.

I don't think it's too bad. Some possibly paranormal shit seems to be going on so animals around town die, you see beached whales which is kind of depressing, you'll see dead birds too. In one scene a potential outcome is that a character shoots and kills a dog, and another outcome is that the character injures the dog.

Yeah, I just don't think I'd be able to get past the whales easily, and definitely not any violence against dogs. It's a YMMV kinda situation I'm sure, I just know my mileage on this one. Thank you, though.

Chances of you being on the same page as them is unlikely

Just do it bro

Yo Max!

Oh man, I think you would absolutely LOVE the setting and vibe of this game. The characters are lovable, the soundtrack is amazing and the world is so fun to explore.

Unfortunately those three things you describe are also present in the game (though handled maturely and seriously), especially in the fourth episode and I think those themes might get even heavier in the final episode.

First of all you should know that you can rewind time and so a lot of violent scenes can be avoided or undone by using the game mechanics. For example, the scene where the dog can get hurt is entirely dependent on what choice you make. Without spoiling the context, you can choose to throw a dog treat all the way to the road so the dog will be distracted longer (with the consequence of the dog potentially being hurt in a traffic accident) or you can keep him closer, keeping him safe but yourself in a bit more danger. So in this case the dog doesn't have to get hurt at all, the choice is entirely yours.

There is gun violence, though (so far) all victims can be saved using the time rewind mechanic. It's nothing graphic and I don't recall seeing blood at all (maybe a little bit)

As for the dead animals thing: it's unsettling but never graphic or anything like that. I would even say some of it can be beautiful, such as the one bird with the spiral of ants around it. I love seeing nature in games and Life is Strange definitely has something with animals. There's talk about spirit animals, you can do lots of photo ops with (living :p) birds and squirrels and even a doe in the game. If you look around you can find a birds nest or even an owl which is pretty cool. The protagonist clearly loves animals and she is cleary affected and sad that animals are starting to die and she wants to do something about it.

About sexual content... I'll say that episode 4 takes a darker turn and you will find some disturbing stuff. It's very spoilery though, if you want I can go into details.

Hope you can find a way to enjoy this game but right now I'd say you can better wait until episode 5 is out because the game could get a lot darker again :(

Yeah, that video and the "Jefferson = Creepy" video made me feel really shallow, like shit, some people really look deeply into a story, while I just come along for the ride :(
I mean, it took me until the damned Vortex Club party to go "waaait a minute, could it be Mr. Jefferson?!" and felt half-proud I'd figured it out before he revealed himself in the ending of Ep4...

Damnit :(

I didn't figure it out until I saw his face during the "reveal". And even then I thought I was seeing things.

Hey Kubus! Thanks for the detailed response. I really appreciate it. I will take your advice and wait till episode 5 comes out (is that the finale?) to ask again at that point. I would like to know what the sexual content is like in ep. 4, if you don't mind. I will say that knowing you can stop the dog from getting hurt at all does make me feel like I'd consider playing it, especially hearing your high praise for the game and how much you think I'd like it. :)

Basically it's revealed that the bad guys in this game are running some sort of weird snuff sort of deal where they capture and drug girls in Max's class and take pictures of them, that sort of dark art deal. When/if we find out the extent of the operation chances are there's gonna be some ugly shit going on. There's only been references of sex and some shows of affection, but rape could potentially be an issue here, but I'm not completely sure not do I remember completely. I think that's only been discussed in rumors up to this point. In another case a character was drugged and a viral video featuring her became popular as a result, it seems she could've doing some dirty stuff based on the reaction.

There is implied rape but nothing graphic has been shown. A christian abstinent girl was drugged and recorded kissing a bunch of people and a video was shared online but you can help her. We have seen at least one person get drugged and get captured. We don't know how heavy Ep. 5 (the finale) will be but it is fun trying to get to the bottom of what's going on and stop it.

Some animals are dead but the game is very beautiful and animals are very present as a form of symbolism. You can help birds survive, you can take care of a bunny for someone, yoi can take pictures of squirrels, some sort of spirit animal seems to be guiding you, the janitor says the squirrels are his eyes and he seems to be hinting animals and native american spirit animals have something to do with the supernatural going on. You can save a dog from being killed and you see his owner loves him very much, saved him from dog fighting ring. It's still a dog that was trained to kill from a young age but you can see his owner's taking care of it now and itms heartbreaking seeing someone injure it and go through without thinking they could go back in time and strive to save the dog.

The protagonist loves animals and there is brightness and life among the heavier stuff going on in Arcadia Bay, but the vibe is very cool and it's a beautiful game. It can get tough on the player but I feel there will be a way to get things right in the end, or at least I hope there is.

The scene I got lead to a dog and then a human being shot dead and it was pretty disturbing.

Oh I misread. I thought you were talking about the first decision with the dog in an earlier chapter

This moment can indeed go bad pretty quickly. I expect the last chapter to also have something like that, with the rewind feature being gone due to what happened in the last seconds of the 4th chapter.

I should replay this part, I didn't get to see him.

Fwiw, it's REALLY easy to miss if you don't know what to look for. He only peeks out from behind the bush for a second or too, and said bush is quite far outside of your window.

The little creep is really good at hiding <_<

If I play, I will definitely want to know how to avoid this happening.

(Thanks very much for the detailed info above, Choomp and Jachaos.)

Just finished 4.

gat

damn

Was expecting things to get dark but there were some super dark parts of that episode. 5 can't come soon enough.

No problem, hopefully you play it and those things I mentioned don't bother you too much and you enjoy it. Personally, I found myself appreciating a lot of the content I mentioned and wasn't as much bothered by it. (This thread is one of the many places you can go if you want help avoiding a specific outcome)

There's nothing really gruesome in any of the episodes, this a story about a teenage girl time traveling, I'm not sure if someone mislead you somehow or what the deal is but it should be fine.
This is kind of the last game I'd expect anyone to be concerned about stuff like that.

That ending of LiS episode 4 HUH? YO... WHAT? JUST... HOW... HUH!?!

To be honest, I was expecting some sort of swerve. Partly due to cultural osmosis (saw a couple of crazy reactions on Twitter) and partly due to the fact there was just no way they'd set up all this build up for Nathan. So for the most part, I expected some actual mastermind pulling the strings. But goddamn, Mr. Jefferson? After he just saw us off at the party? Yo damn... The wait for Episode 5 will be killer. I hope everything comes together in the best way.

Trended at the number 2 spot in Youtube's top ten 'Trending' games for July list, just behind Rocket League. Pretty sure this will be my GOTY, barring a catastrophic fuck up with ep.5.

There's a screen size option in video settings you can use to increase or decrease the display area.

In the ps4's system settings? But that doesn't apply to games though. I tried it for dmc4se and bloodborne and it didn't resize shit. Does it depend on the developer and works only on certain games or something? Anyway Ill try it out.

Saddest part about EP4 was I forgot to put the plank back and the birds nest got destroyed after I was so diligent in saving all the birds in other episodes and letting them not fly out of windows and such...

thanks Joyce.....

The display option in PS4 settings only works with certain games, I'm not sure if it works with LiS

Apologies, I didn't know you had the PS4 version, I was talking about the PC version. In the PC version you can adjust display area from the in-game video options menu. Is there no video options menu in the PS4 version ?

so, I played Ep 3 and 4 yesterday. there were some great moments and some bad ones (especially the writing).

question about that "alternate beach". when starting Ep 4 you had to specifically click on that image to start the game. are there events in Ep 3 that changes the beginning of 4 entirely? if not, maybe in Ep 5 we can time travel back a couple of episodes to change many of those events drastically. I'd be impressed if that's the case.
