Life is Strange | Spoiler Thread

I dipped out of here for a while after finishing up but man...am I the only one that just never grew to like Chloe? Like, at all. I didn't dislike her but she was just...there.

It's watching reaction videos that's making me wonder. Everyone's bawling at this ending and while I liked it, felt the gravity and all that, my reaction was pretty much just "oh okay" because I didn't really care for Chloe nor see it as a surprise. It was kinda obvious we'd have to to that from the start and I was hoping their whole 'multiple endings' thing would actually lead to different outcomes.

It's still one of the best games I've played this year and I can totally see how that ending is killer if you ended up liking Chloe but she never ever clicked with me. I felt more, both positively and negatively, with every other character in the game. Chloe just existed.

Even if you don't like Chloe personally a big part of the emotion in the end at least for me comes from seeing Max so sad and heartbroken. I felt very attached to Max and identity with her strongly. She got her best friend back for a week before she had to lose her again for always. Still happy to hear you enjoyed the experience.

Example: If Max botches her attempts to warn David in the Dark Room multiple times, it isn't leaving behind a growing bodycount across multiple timelines. It's just one string of events, being altered over and over until a conclusion is reached that is suitable for Max.

Photo Diving works a bit differently. More than just a huge rewind, Max forces her consciousness backwards into a previous Max and then proceeds to poke around until she finds a way to accomplish her goal. Once her mission is completed, the Max Consciousness is forced onto a newly branched alternate timeline, where she will now take the place of the Max that was previously there.

Example: Max hides William's keys. This forces the Max Consciousness onto Timeline B, where William lives and Chloe is paralyzed, while Timeline A continues to exist, the events of that timeline march on unabated. As to whether or not Timeline B is erased when Max returns to Timeline A is left up to interpretation. Perhaps her attempts to return to Timeline A actually result in Timeline C.

As an additional thought... I find myself wondering if Rewind has more of a physical toll on Max (resulting in things like general exhaustion, the sudden inability to use her power) while Photo Diving is more damaging to the general space-time continuum.

That's pretty much how I see it as well. Nicely summed up.

You have to go out of your way on the DVD release into the Deleted Scenes menu to watch it.

Wouldn't recommend it. Really grim and doesn't fit. It's like something from a different movie.

I own both the DVD and Blu-ray, but for some reason I never watched the deleted scenes. I won't be watching that scene at least.

Man, if I had to choose between Kate and Arcadia Bay...oh god.

Yeah, that would have been a lot harder for me. Though it still would have been Arcadia Bay. I don't know how I'd ever respond to such a scenario in real life, but in a video game if I have to choice to save a large group of mostly decent people or one person I like a lot it's gonna be the group every time.

Man, if I had to choose between Kate and Arcadia Bay...oh god.
#TeamKate all the way. Fuck Arcadia and their bully-infested communities. I saved Kate and she will God damn live for all eternally lol

Also, I too was more sad because of the experience Max had to go through. She was crushed while sitting in there bathroom and that was really hard for me to watch.

Chloe is a dick for the majority of the game. Kate is an angel, but in a cool way, not a perfect Mary Sue way. Max and Kate would make way more believable besties, at least after William's death.

That said, Chloe definitely redeemed herself for me at the end when she realized what an asshole she was and showed she was willing to commit a completely selfless act.

That is easy, I chose Chloe over Arcadia Bay and I liked Kate a helluva lot better than Chloe.

Ironically saving Chloe probably killed Kate, whoops.

I refuse to believe that, I think it's said that Kate's family is visiting (or she's visiting family?) that day so THEY'RE PROBABLY OFF TO PORTLAND LALALALALALALA

Fuck you for killing Kate. You heartless bastard! She is in a hospital in Arcadia and you know it!

#TeamKate

This is how I feel as well. Chloe being willing to go down to save people made her a lot more likable when you previously get four chapters of "it has to be somebody's fault, otherwise it's mine, fuck that". Alternate Chloe was also awesome because he was much more mature (plus I liked blonde Chloe better).

As for Kate, she was the closest you can get to a believably "perfect" person in my mind. Adorable character design aside, she always tried to see things from another person's perspective and see positives, even the people that didn't give a damn about her. And in doing so, she changed nearly all of those people for the better when Max talks her off the roof (because you're a bad if you got that other option lol). She makes Victoria and Nathan think about what they're doing, and both of them gave no fucks previously. People that can do that and not abandon the ideal as soon as someone pisses them off IRL are really strong, and I tend to respect those individuals.

EDIT: I also agree about Max and Kate's friendship; it seemed more like an actual friendship with none of the dramatic undertones.

Yeah, at the end it's sort of like that more mature Chloe we see in the "Save William" timeline finally shows herself and she's finally able to let go of her bitterness. It's a great conclusion to her arc.

After finishing the game and learning just what each character's deal is, that moment at the end of Episode 2 when Nathan walks in on Victoria is a lot more touching, in a weird and still kind of troubling way. And Victoria talking about Kate in the dark room is pretty heartbreaking.

Yep, it's one of the reasons I warmed to Victoria so much. She clearly cares about people as Max states, just has a lot of self confidence issues she pushes onto others. No regrets befriending her.

I admit I chose to be a dick to her for a good portion of the game. Which resulted in my not being able to convince her that Nathan was dangerous even though I tried...which resulted in her not ending up in the dark room and dying! So my dickishness was actually in her best interest!

that's what checkpoints are for you terrible person

Cheater cheater... And hypocrite, you genocidal maniac.

Man, if I had to choose between Kate and Arcadia Bay...oh god.

I thought about this and thought it would be super hard at first. But I think there is no way Kate could be happy again or forgive Max for choosing her over the whole town. Kate is too selfless for that. It is why she is the best character and secret best friend.

Word.

Reminder that Kate and Max are going to make a children's book together :3

Just finished Episode 5 last night, and it's just now starting to hit me how much I'm going to miss the adventures of Max and Chloe. Arcadia Bay was an interesting place, and I'm pretty excited to see where Dontnod takes us next.

After spending some time catching up on this thread and sifting through all of the discussion about how Max's time powers work, I'd like to add something of my own: I think there's a major difference to be considered between the "rewind" power and the "photo diving" power.

I suspect that the Rewind power does exactly that. It rewinds events exactly to how they were a few moments ago. This allows for things like Max's "teleportation" into Wells' office to work, since she can will the world around her back into place with no effect to herself, and since things are just being rewound like a tape multiple timelines are not being created.

Example: If Max botches her attempts to warn David in the Dark Room multiple times, it isn't leaving behind a growing bodycount across multiple timelines. It's just one string of events, being altered over and over until a conclusion is reached that is suitable for Max.

Photo Diving works a bit differently. Glad to know there's a good few that didn't dig Chloe at least. I did feel sad for Max - I really enjoyed her character - but that still wasn't enough to really make the ending all that big a deal for me. The only reason I hesitated is because sacrificing Chloe seems so damn obvious I was convinced that saving her would be the way more interesting ending. Boy was I wrong.

But oh man if it was Kate? Na, console would have gotten plug pulled then and there. That's a decision that would have had me bawling.
Not sure how they could fix it, but it annoyed me to be railroaded into putting up with Chloe's crap.
They definitely needed to give you way more opportunities to back chat her. I know they were close friends and all but holy hell Max put up with way too much. In a game all about choosing what the main character says this really felt like the devs forcing you to like Chloe.
Still happy to hear you enjoyed the experience.
Thanks. I've been disappointed by so many games this year it's great to play something that I legitimately loved. The community it's created is fantastic as well. TY Dontnod.

Chloe > Everyone

I do like every single character though. Their interesting and I want to know more about them and what makes them tick. That's what I love so much about LiS. The entire cast is A+ and very well written imo.

I really wanted Victoria to be Max's bestie for some reason, I tried super hard to get her to like Max.

And you can get her to like Max, so yay. My Max turned all of them to her side, her powers of being adorkable and awesome are just too strong. Well, everyone except Nathan and Brooke. At least Nathan was legit crazy, Brooke's just a thirsty douchebag. XD

Brooke will still like Max in the end if you get Daniel to attend the party, right?

I went through all the episodes without reading the diary. Im pretty keen on reading it now. Whens the best time to read it? I remember checking it out during the nightmare scene and it was all scribbled out.

Whenever you meet a new character or finish a new segment your Diary updates as a record of what you've done.

You definitely want to read some SMS during her tripping out phase. Some craziness going on there haha

LTTP and finishing one episode at a time, awesome awesome game, and sort of glad i waited for all five episodes to come out before starting.

Here are my stats for the first episode.

I really dig the use of music in the game, especially the ending of the episode, though it was a bit shorter than what i had in mind.

This is the spoiler thread. You probably don't want to be here. Fair warning.

Finished the game over the past 5 days, playing one ep. a day. Completely blown away by the ending, loved that they went with a satisfying narrative ending rather than a "videogame" ending. Not a lot of scenes in Movies or TV shows affected me as much as Max sitting through Chloe getting killed again. That was... man... that was too much.

If I had one gripe with this game though, it could be summed up in this video.

I wanted to write something about my experience with the game, but words can't express what's going through my head right now. Great game. I'm a sucker for time stuff. I want more. Next game I know of that will be released is Quantum Break.

Shsssh. No words needed. Show us on this picture, where did it touch you?

I'd say they were okay friends. They probably liked each other, but that needy Warren stole Maxine's time and left Kate with her despair.

Given what was written in Max's journal, they definitely seem to be good friends that get along pretty well. Unlike for most of the students at Brockwell, who while they do know Max, they wouldn't think twice to sit at the same lunch table with her.

Pretty sure Max and Kate were really good friends.

I mean, you can hug her and she says "You always know just the right things to say Max" in one of the timejumps as your first in-game interaction with Kate, which is not something you let someone do to you/say to someone you're not close friends with.

Yep, she knew Kate really well. Another thing that shows this is how she was genuinely surprised Kate had hung out with Alyssa and Stella, as in "I thought I knew all her friends". Even though she's not at adopted sister level like with Chloe and her family I'm fairly certain Max and Kate will end up similarly close (unless you went the romance Chloe route lol) in time, were we able to continue to interact with them like real life.

Just finished. Choose Chloe first and felt like it was the right thing. Then saved over a second slot to save the Bay. That one tore me up.

I like to think that both save files are different timelines.
