He hasn't clarified what happened that made him do that.

This is why I recommend to download the FW off of the site and install it from a USB. Downloading the FW come launch day will have lots of people in this same situation downloading it from the server.

I haven't read the entire thread, but did he bother to charge his controller or did he use it straight out of the box? I don't know if PS3 still does it but I remember at one point it would not let you install firmware if your controller was not sufficiently charged.

Indeed. It really sucks to see a fellow gamer disappointed during a console launch.

I'm certainly hopeful that this is a rare occurrence, which is to be expected in a mass consumer electronics launch. I'm also hopeful that the XB1 launch goes smoothly as well.

Hold down the power button for about 10-15 seconds, the system will shut off. I've had to do it a few times on PS3, several other people a few pages back confirmed it as well.

That is sorta scary. I mean what if power outage or a pet/kid knocks the cord out or something

When you put your phone in sleep mode (screen off) and you have apps open.. if the power were to run out or go away, you'd lose all that open data.
