Samsung Guarantees Zero Defective Pixels in LCD Monitors

Samsung Electronics announced Thursday that from Jan. 1, customers who discover defective pixels on an LCD monitor produced by the company less than six months after its purchase may have the panel replaced free of charge.

An LCD monitor is made up of hundreds of thousands of tiny pixels. Manufacturers have classified products with 10 or less defective pixels as "normal" and refused to repair or exchange them, which led to complaints from customers. Samsung added, however, that the free exchanges do not apply to customers who purchased their LCD monitors before Jan. 1.

This is one helluva bold move on their part. If you find even ONE dead pixel on any of their monitors starting Jan. 1, you can return it for free for a new one.

I need some advice, I've owned this LCD for a few weeks now, the screen has become smeared in some sports (because SOME people cant keep their fingers away ) , as the screen is "soft", how would I go on about cleaning the screen? Advice anyone?

Yeah I'm about to take the plung on a Samsung LCD monitor. I recommended one to my friend, and the picture output on it is amazing. This helps reinforce my decision to get one soon.

When did Dell adopt this policy? I bought a 20.1" 2001fp LCD from them about a year ago. I went through three panels because of dead (mainly stuck) pixels. The first one had 12 bad pixels, and they accepted an exchange without problem. The second had 8 bad pixels, and they gave me some grief because their policy was 10 bad pixels or more. The third had 3 bad pixels, and they really gave me a hard time about returning that one. I believe the panel was manufactured by LG. Dell's customer support is some of the worst I've ever had to deal with (largely because most of it's been outsourced to India), and after that experience I decided to never buy from them again.

I've been wanting an LCD since but have held off because of fears about bad pixels. Might give a Samsung panel a try, as long as it's not a rebrand from Dell

There are screen cleaners that will work...they are basically a microfibre cloth with some cleaning solution.

Something like that would do...we use it on LCD monitors all the time and it works beautifully. I opened a refurbed one for a customer and it had smears that were in pretty good, this worked great and there was absolutely no trace of a smear.
