Ya no.

And I always thought Switch was a girl throughout the whole movie never knew that he/she was supposed to be a man somewhere along the lines.

Matrix has nothing to do with being trans, 0, zilch, nadda.

I always just took it as an epic futuristic take on daydreaming, I guess it makes sense considering what has happened since for the creators

Great film either way

Just embrace it, in the future we will be able to transfer our consciousness into a chick's body and then we would be able to experienced getting fucked by ourselves. Pure bliss :)

That “man” is mentally ill. He looks like an abomination, but beyond that, The Matrix is an action movie and that’s it. Sorry Mr. director!

If you laugh at the absurdity of the claim that is being made, over a very small portion of the story, understand there are forces at play that aren't apparent.

Has anyone followed the white rabbit?
Do you know what it looks like?
If so, how far?

these chicks literally only made one good movie and then only trash, between matrix sequels, jupiter ascending and sense 8...

And Jupiter Ascending was basically all three Matrix movies remade into one movie and it even has the EXACT SAME ENDING as the first Matrix.

It's kind of funny that the main example they use is the only character who is a bit "gender non-conforming" and who also dies halfway through the first movie and is never really mentioned again.

The idea of people being anything the want to be inside the Matrix is pretty interesting from a gender perspective but they are doing some real revisionist stuff if they are pushing the idea that the series was genuinely about that.

Could Neo and Trinity's relationship even be more tropey and hetero-normative?

Ah yes but there was this one side character in the first half of the first movie, you see...

The Matrix was a pretty good action movie that took a lot of inspirations from other works to make it seem a lot deeper than it actually was.
Followed by two sequels that gave us less cool action stuff and no more deep thoughtful stuff.

If it's a transgender allegory then I guess being trans is pretty cool and awesome at first, then really confusing and weird, then just a bit boring and shite and finally you end up getting banged by robot tentacles?

Who was talking about “transgenderism” in 1999?

LOL. I bet if you were able to access the internet browsing histories of the day you'd find that there was great interest in such things back then.

Nobody was talking about it but they sure were busy looking up the cost of flights to Thailand.

I haven't visited it in forever, but this reminds me of some of the more tongue in cheek articles on overthinkingit.com

I knew it!

I had a feeling. Meh, it's a great movie and I really enjoy the story they told and the way it was told.

Good on em.

There is a difference between guys wanting to fuck transsexual prostitutes and all these gender confused people that have appeared.

I did not get that impression from the Matrix.

Still one of the best action/science fiction movies ever made.

Wait, they're both trans? That has to be a statistical anomaly right? What are the chances of a set of twins being, let's say, gay?

They're "trans" because they're both Hollywood types living in 2020 America. Had they been born 100 years ago the idea they're actually women would have never crossed their minds.

What time is it?

Lana came out in 2012, well ahead of the current trans movement.

The original Matrix is great save for the closing phone booth/superman scene. At least the Wachowski's were kind enough to give us forewarning that the rest of the series would be trash.

Some of the least surprising posts EVER on this thread :'D

The first Matrix film was fucking awesome. For a kid of my age it was gloriously giger-esque, gritty, mind-opening, impressive, imaginative, high tech and futuristic, you name it.

Who gives a flying fuck if it was a metaphor for anything you don't agree with? If you want to make it a metaphor for white man struggling against the Jews go ahead and make it thus. I sure as hell won't be paying attention to you ^_^

For the record, this changes nothing about how I feel about the movie. The message it portrays could apply to any of a number of real world situations.

It's crazy that the Wachowski's are trans, but don't take dick.

I am thoroughly confused. :messenger_neutral:

Oh, don't worry- The transgender "community" is ridiculously hostile toward most anyone these days...even toward other transgender people who have medically-diagnosed gender dysphoria.

The whole thing is a dumpster fire. I want nothing to do with any of it.
Have a look at the shit Buck Angel and Contrapoints got into....jesus. Watched a video from a guy that also denounced neo-pronouns because of the hostility from others.

Anyway, I'm not buying this being an allegory for trans. You mean she only just reveals it now, 20 yrs later from nowhere? Not buying it, I can see the reasoning but it's little more than confirmation bias.

I have a special place in my heart for sense 8, and it's not because the series is good, but because San Bak it's too fucking cool and i enjoyed every scene with her in it.
I would scratch everything in this series and make it only about San Bak's story and it would be one of my all time favorites...

Switch was originally going to be trans in the The Matrix. She/he was male in the real world and female in the Matrix, but that was taken out because it was deemed "too confusing" for audiences at the time.

From the beginning, The Matrix was highly progressive in terms of casting. Can't wait for the red pillers to call out Matrix 4 for "being woke" or whatever when they cast a black female or have a trans character or whatever else gets their panties in a bunch.

The Matrix is my favorite film of all time. Still holds up today. The sequels were shit, but I'm optimistic with this new one since it seems to be a passion project of Lana Wachowski (much like the original). I'm fully expecting some progressive allegory, but if done right, it won't be overbearing --ala, the original film.

Matrix is a modern classic and cultural phenomenon that is up there with Star Wars. MCU doesn't count because it's just comic adapted stuff.

But let's not pretend it's that original. There were similar stories that preceded it.

One that stands out for me was an 80's Twilight Zone episode where a guy was having a picnic with his family and things started glitching like his wife looping and repeating, etc. He finally "wakes up" and he's in some kind of pod in a huge facility with millions or billions if other pods and a warning alert goes off.

It was even creepier than The Matrix because it was just some poor average guy, and not some "chosen one", whose simulation glitched.

The old DOS/Commodore game 'Alternate Reality: The City' and ' Alternate Reality: The Dungeon' had this storyline as well.
