Limited Run Games - Putting digital games into your hands

Now this is interesting. It was my understanding from the answers in the thread that you were against this, dev agreeing or not.

Yeah, they have no intention of doing second prints, but if the dev sees good sales and another publisher sees potential, they totally can. Only games (i'd assume) that will never likely be done like this is Breach and Clear and SMRPG since they developed those games.

Anyways, I was wondering:

Are full-color manuals the standard from now on? Does Shadow Complex have one?

We also know that Volume will have a special glossy cover -- any other games coming that will as well? I figured Rainbow Moon would have been a nice opportunity for that, especially the minimalistic Vita cover.

I just found the 360 collection brand new for $20. Got 2 other games and saved $50-60CAD if I woulda got it from Iam8bit, win-win.
I mean, VR is supposedly the big thing that will separate Rez Infinite from its past releases, which you'll miss by relying on the old releases. I was just coming up with explanations for the pace of sales, not that I personally agree 40$ is too much for the game. I'd have no problem paying full retail price for it if VR enhances the experience as much as I assume it will.

No, unfortunately. Manuals are up to the devs to make and they're a lot of work. Many devs will do them, but not all.

There will be other games coming up with foil and embossing. Not sure it will be super frequent though - it is crazy expensive.

Cool, no problem. I'm happy with every game having a postcard and sticker anyways :)

I can imagine that foil and embossing adds a good $3-4 bucks to the package. Most people would probably be ok paying an extra $5 for those games, no?

I'm just going on record to say that the notion that we're putting out "shit" games is stupid. I know critical consensus is meaningless but our average on Metacritic is sitting at a 71. I'm proud of the fact that we don't restrict ourselves to mega hits - I LOVE that we're exposing people to games they may have never heard of or considered buying before. To call what we're putting out "shovelware" is pretty offensive to me because you're lumping great games in the same category as M&Ms Kart Racing, Ninjabread Man, and Chicken Shoot. Whether a game is good or bad is totally subjective, so you're welcome to your opinion - but I think everyone would agree we're a step above shovelware. Even then, someone out there is a fan of M&Ms Kart Racing, Ninjabread Man, and Chicken Shoot so who am I to tell them their taste is bad and that they like shit games? We're not the arbiters of taste and neither is anyone else.

It's also totally subjective to say that Rez is better than Oddworld or Shadow Complex. Not everyone in the world will agree with you on that subject.

I'm pretty certain, and would bet a nice chunk of change on it, that the reason Rez is not selling well is because of the open preorder model. iam8bit has been around for a decade, we're much newer than they are and I'm certain under our model we would have been sold out of Rez. Just FYI, they have 63,000 Twitter followers compared to the 600 we had when we released Breach & Clear. They have a huge audience to sell to. There are a ton of factors, but I think the lack of urgency is the biggest driver of purchase apathy.

It's not that you put out shit games, just that they are the low key games that are often not GREAT games. When LRG gets the chance to publish stuff like Castle Crashers, Geo Wars, Pac-Man DX, or whatever other great games are out there, it will be a force that's for sure and I hope it happens. I see a lot of potential in you guys to get the shot and publish some pretty significant 'smaller' games over time. Most of us understand ya gotta start somewhere and you're all doing a good job, I just hope the end result will be to focus most on the best quality stuff when such a thing is plausible.

Not sure what you're talking about. Oddworld and Shadow Complex are as good if not better than all three of those games you listed and every release has sold out and many are in such demand that they go for several times MSRP the day after release. LRG has succeeded already and will continue to do so. If you don't like indie games, LRG is probably not for you and you can feel free to skip those games. The rest of us get what LRG is doing and will support it with our wallets.

I find it quite offensive to call any of the games LRG has published shit as we should respect LRG, the developers that worked on them and the people that love to play them. I personally find it amazing that so many niche games get a physical release thanks to LRG.

I love indie games and I'm buying them all (on the Vita), but I'm a lot more excited about LRG's japanese offerings. JRPGs and VNs are my jam.

There are many games in the pipeline, several I think qualify as big (or even huge) and several smaller niche games. I don't think we'll ever restrict ourselves to just putting out the hits. That's what I think makes us unique, we're helping bring physicality to a lot of games that wouldn't normally get a physical release.

It's more likely it would go to no one. Sony isn't really keen on working with third parties for physical releases. :(

Bummer :(

Can't wait to find out what else is coming!

Oh, didn't know it's actually published by Sony. Forget that then. ;__; Though Sony (?) has released some physical copies for games like Helldivers, so I guess the likelihood of Bound seeing a physical release isn't 0%.

I respect the work LRG is doing because it's a great idea, but c'mon, really? We can't call a turd of a game a turd because of a few hurt feelings? Obviously, nothing they've released is actually shovelware-tier, but I don't think it's tough to understand why some feel the games selected are a wasted opportunity.

"A wasted opportunity" implies that there was something else waiting around for publishing while they chose one of their games.

Show to me which game Futuridium pushed out.

Still, people are free to have whatever opinions they want on whatever games. The main point is: Just don't try to project that onto everyone else. But honestly? Yeah, it's a dick move to call a game a "turd" to the face of the developers and/or people that worked to have it published. Honesty doesn't require lack of tact.

This was in reply to the person who said that apart from 1-2 games everything LRG put out so far is shit, which is totally absurd. If people like a game or not is a very subjective issue. I've had a lot of fun with games that did not have mainstream appeal. Diversity is great, otherwise all people would play is Call of Duty and EA games.

My will to pick up the older Vita releases is starting to break.

"I don't like..." isn't the same thing as "This is crap." You can dislike a game all you want but don't get to pass judgement for everyone else. My current plan is to break my perfect PS4 run of LRG once the visual novels hit, because I hate the things, but it's neither my responsibility nor right to say other people shouldn't be happy to get them.

I know people have lost the ability to judge a game anything other than "great" or "crap" in the last few years, but even beyond that..

If you don't like the games LRG is putting out you have a few options

- Say nothing and ignore them (<- generally a good option for every situation)
- Say "I don't like this game, but I'm glad for others and the devs that it now exists in physical form"
- Say "This is shit and a wasted opportunity"

Guess which one makes you look like an asshole.

I especially like the post that say the games are shit and at the same time complain the print runs are too small. Why do you even care?

I couldn't care less about any of these games. Surprise, quality is subjective after all! I'll take Rainbow Moon and Mystery Chronicle over those games any day.

There are also people who would prefer anime porn games as well, that doesn't mean they have anywhere near the majority appeal though. Shadow Complex is probably the most relevant title LRG has output, with Oddworld being a known IP that has little power these days, so they are certainly getting there. I just have higher hopes for the stuff they manage to snag over time in comparison to say, SMRPG :p

Aaaaaanyway, how long until the next game is announced? Didn't they say Monday or did I make that up? And this is going to be the game with the large/dedicated fanbase, correct?

SMRPG was developed by Mighty Rabbit, which is practically the same company as LRG

It's especially shitty to bash those games

Yeah fuck em for using their publishing platform to publish their games! Horrible!

Which in turn was what proved the viability of the business in the first place to other developers!

The gall!

I wonder if Mighty Rabbit will offer its services to other visual novel companies like Mangagamer and JAST USA if the Sekai Project ports succeed.

I bought shadow complex as my first LRG. I would love to see Towerfall specifically and Bound. Those would be instant purchases

Bound has been adressed with a no, but I'll strongly second you on Towerfall. It needs to happen ! With Dark World included on the disc *_*

EDIT: Scalpersssssssss ;-;

Haha good luck mate ^^
(but don't let it go in the way if you need food though)

I'll take 12 copies of anime porn games plz.
Actually I won't say that I won't buy it. That would be...original !

But of course Im ignoring the games I dont like. Not a collector, not a hoarder, not a scalper, only interested in playing physical versions of the titles I like.

Unfortunately for wannabe PR and rah rah fans Im still very interested in the operation (this and any similar other), still am a paying customers, still not satisfied, still going to voice my dissent whenever I see fit.

Im pretty sure you can put me on ignore, no big deal.

Meanwhile, I applaud that we have come to the phase where not only the publisher choices, but also the games involved have become impervious to critic, with the added bonus of games not published by yours truly becoming crap after being legitimate gems for 2 hw generations. LOL. Cant wait for this approach to seep into the rest of GAF and the whole site to shutdown because we cant criticize dev x choice or say game y is crap anymore.

I mean, I said I love B&C whole theme and premise even if the game is crap, cant I have a temporary pass for the fanclub?

So you're only here now to rile people up in an attempt to get a response, got it.

Since I'm sure he'll get to some of you guys, just report/ignore and move on. We don't need this trash shitting up the thread when there's real complaints/solutions that can be talked about if you have a problem with the store, business model or print size, something other than having a "discussion" about how "shit" some of the games they've done may or may not be.
