Limited Run Games - Putting digital games into your hands

What are other Vita games that are becoming rare and hard to find? I have Retro City Rampage thankfully.

- the English Asia version of Final Fantasy X-2 is getting increasingly difficult to find and is starting to get priced higher when it gets listed on ebay. It's currently one listing, bidding up to $100.

- the English Asia version of MLB '15 (there's two different covers, one with the US cover, and one with a Chinese player), which is the only actual cart release of the game. Everywhere else is a download voucher. No retailers sell it anymore and it hasn't been on ebay since it first came up for pre-order.

- there's a US, NTSC version of Epic Mickey 2 that was never actually released to stores and retailers in NA, but was sometimes available on import sites, for whatever reason. You can spot it by the ESRB rating symbol, but it's currently ghost status. The UK/EU versions are available, but not rare.

- there's the Australian version of the rugby game, Wallabies Rugby Challenge. The UK version is Jonah Lomu Rugby Challenge. I think I've seen one Aussie collector say there's a variant of the Wallabies one that's extra rare. Those are ones I haven't gotten to yet, to really know.

- it's not getting pricey yet, but tons of Hyper Dimension Neptunia 3 copies in NA are defective, most through Best Buy US and EB Games Canada, so working copies are hard to find. IdeaFactory even told me I'd have a better chance of getting a working one off Amazon... key word: chance.

I don't think the numbers of affected copies have been figured out and it hasn't influenced the market for it yet. As far as I've heard, all the LE copies work, so it's just the standard release that's a crapshoot. redditors theorized that BB & EB had the same distribution region, since BB is based out of Minnesota. My money's on some kind of accidental magnetization wipe at the distribution level and not a flub at the manufacturing level. There was no recall (BB still selling defective ones), so I don't know if IF took a hit, but it's mostly 3rd party sellers on Amazon now and not re-upped stock direct from Amazon so they probably haven't produced more since the first printing... with the state of Vita, they probably won't.

Best bet is finding a used one in Gamestop, so you can return it no problems if it doesn't work. You'll probably get just the cart in a paper sleeve if you order it from GS online.

I was outside the return window, so BB was like "LOL" and IF was just like "sorry, dude"

Is the English DJ MAX still hard to find too, or did it get a reprint, I can't remember.

Maybe Amiibo have desensitized me to this type of complaining.

Voicing concerns about the trial run of a business model hampering potential availability of future releases in a place where that publisher can read it does not equal complaining. So much projection in this thread.

And I've laid out the issues with 'taking preorders' more than once in this thread. I've done it for my own projects. It's not as cut and dried as some make it out to be and it increases risk, effort, and upfront cost for a number of reasons. If you want more detail as to the whys and wherefores, read the thread.

Taking straight orders on existing, in-hand inventory is far easier [requiring far less upfront infrastructure, etc] than managing preorders [and potential delays, cancellations, refunds, customer expectations, and the rest of issues that crop up]. Limiting the run significantly ensures they break even and/or sell out, the first being a requirement and the second being good for future projects.

LRG did this first run safely and with low risk. That is the absolute best way to approach something like this. Yes, by their very nature limited runs are limited. That does not negate their many advantages for a small publisher.

You're just stating the obvious.

The LE is still pricey and always will be, but the standard edition got reprinted and sold by VGP in Canada. That's how I got mine. There's plenty available on ebay for normal prices.

In the future, maybe people can determine 1st/2nd/etc printing by serial numbers or something, and the OG copies will matter more, ala comic books. I've never seen that happen with any other systems or games (ie: Xenoblade Chronicles/Metroid Prime Trilogy reprints), though, barring differentiating between the real deal and repro carts/bootlegs made 10+ years down the line.

Don't forget Oreshika (Asia) and Ar nosurge Plus (US).

There's probably too much red tape to go through with it being an IP owned by Sony, but I'd love to see a physical version of Amplitude get released. The rewards for the Kickstarter mentioned a case, but no physical game to go along with it.

I unfortunately missed some of the news since release and missed my window for the purchase because I was stuck at a work meeting.

I read something about opening up a few copies from culling all the mass orders and putting that up on Monday. Is that still the plan? Is there a timeframe on Monday for that?

Read five posts above yours.

Oreshika was what lead to him asking what other games were getting rare. I was going to put on Ar nosurge, but there's a decent amount on ebay, and it's $100 range price isn't too high considering it's a big box LE by default, and it hasn't been out long enough to maybe see resellers start dropping their price. I think it'll stay high, though.

You made me finally open my Neptunia 3 and see if it works. How do you know if you have a defective one? Does it not work at all or does it work up to a point? Mine loads, so I assume it's fine...

Yours is fine. The defective ones don't get read at all and never installs an application bubble. I took forever to open mine too, so I was way outside the return window when I went to google and found out it was a widespread problem.

Good to know, thanks for the info!

I don't know how much shipping from SEA to the west will cost but I can buy a physical copy of oreshika 2 right now for an equivalent of $24. You just have to know where to look.

Crazyy price! I wonder if obscure physical vita games will be worth something in the future?

-Holds on to disgaea 4 limited vita edition-

Probably. The Vita is home to the most eclectic mix of games on the market right now and the gamers who love it, love it. It's got all the signs of being something like the Dreamcast or Saturn. Very beloved by collectors and gamers alike with a lot of highly desired titles.

This I agree with 100% ;)

Boom! Just checked the status on my order and it's now changed to "Fulfilled"

Ugh, we use Shippo to print labels and it looks like it doesn't automagically send out fulfillment emails. We're going to go ahead and figure out how to get those sent out today.

I believe all US orders are fulfilled now except for those with PS4 protective cases. We're waiting on a shipment of those from the manufacturer which should arrive very soon.

You all rock! Keep up the good work! I'm looking forward to Cosmic Star Heroine!

Was surprised to see a black bubble mailer in my mail. I knew what it was from the pics posted on here and twitter :) I also hadn't received a notification until today. No matter, I have it and that's what matters.

Also, to those mentioning hard to find Vita games. There is also the #htol Firefly diaries that had a limited print run from NIS America. I think the rarest NTSC ones are below, IMO.

1. Breach & Clear
2. Retro City Rampage
3. Ar No Surge (Only available in Limited Edition)
4. #htol Firefly Diaries

Then you have others that are uncommon like MMA Supremacy, Disgaea 4, etc... This is based off my collecting.

Shinovi Versus is another case of LE being the only physical release, right?

WIth XSEED games it's more like the "LE" is their normal release. You can still find new copies of SV online. Ar Nosurge had only one run on NISA's online store and has been sold out ever since.
