Limited Run Games - Putting digital games into your hands

Never heard of them. But that does fit, I seem to remember Josh or someone saying physical Rez would be cool, so...

Bummer.

I only heard of them this week because LRG Josh posted some customer service nightmare stories from them.

Apparently they don't care if stuff arrives damaged

physical iam8bit exclusive....

hype dies.

I'm guessing this is the Limited Run rival that they were teasing earlier. With that said, AFAIK iam8bit has a poor track record.

Fucking iam8bit.

FYI, iam8bit still hasn't shipped the Explorer Edition of No Man's Sky yet. Caveat Emptor

Look at the prices of the vinyl for a start with.

Plus they're shipping is pretty expensive and slow along with not having the greatest customer support.

iam8bit is scum company.

The thing I don't like about these pre-order limited runs like Shovel Knight and this is they never tell you when pre-orders close, if ever.

Will I be able to order until close to release? Or will there be copies available afterwards even? They never mention it.

Rez would have been a sweet get for LRG. Dang.
I don't like iam8bit either.

On a related note the limited gold foil RCR still hasn't sold out and that starts shipping later this month.
I'm going to guess the regular editions don't even happen.

iam8bit is scummy as hell and loves to fleece their customers.

Not surprised at all that they are charging $75/$85 for a double LP (these are typically $20-$25, at most $30 with a booklet like is included here), and of course $40 for the physical Rez.

Gross.

LRG for life.

Did you skip the part where they replaced it and said they will make their packaging better?

There's a long, long history of terrible customer service and terrible pricing from those of us that have been buying vinyl from them.

I did not

They only fixed it after it blew up on twitter. That's not promising, the original reply still stands and they doubled down on it on twitter for a while.

Replacing damaged products and making sure stuff isn't damaged during shipping should be standard, not some great gesture of goodwill.

This would never even have happened with LRG

Yeah we replace any damaged games and don't use media mail because it sucks.

That's pretty scummy. No longer glad that they're a new competitor. I can only hope they never get their hands on a game I really want.

I'm super sad LRG didn't get REZ, I've missed the last couple of releases (debating Shadow Complex...) but REZ would have been a day one grab for me if LRG had it and now i'm skipping sadly

That's the concern I have, as well.

I know I will never use iam8bit, but if they get a game I really want, instead of LRG, I will be thoroughly annoyed.

I think this is the new competitor

iam8bit will exclusively sell physical Rez Infite PS4 copies, pre-orders start tomorrow.

I GOT A RESPONSE READY TO GO

That's really exciting actually. Now I have PSVR software that I'm actually looking forward too. The more groups publishing physical games, the better (for me at least).

Heard a lot of bad impressions about those guys.

This thread has plenty of 'em: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1048251

If you read it for a while, you'll see new game records get announced, and a general reaction of 'ugh, iam8bit again'. I can say that I personally haven't really had a problem with them though.

Shoutouts to hawk though for 100% calling it:
Also, I have a guess on who LRG's "competitor" coming into the market is: iam8bit.

And knowing the shitty job they've been doing with vinyl releases (iam8bit is a wonderful case study for why LRG is right IMO for not getting lost in pre-orders), I will be more than happy to keep 100% supporting LRG. I complain out of love! :)

Yeah, to be clear, people on the vinyl thread have a love-hate relationship with iam8bit, but it has definitely soured even more recently due to their customer service.

It's not that they have done something completely awful, but it's death by a thousand cuts. Lots and lots of delays, miscommunication, bad customer service, no refunds for most purchases, slow shipping, expensive shipping, subpar packaging, prices well above other record labels, etc.

A lot of people (me included) still appreciate that they are releasing a lot of good soundtracks on vinyl, but the way they keep going about it is just constantly baffling. This latest move of putting out a 2xLP set for $75/$85 is just absurd. I don't think I've ever seen a 2LP set for over $80. Even *half* of that at $40 is extremely rare, book or not.

Here's another Canadian with no games from the last run. The tracking indicates that it's still at the border and not even with Canada post yet. Feels like the Canadian inspections are insanely slow this year. From South East Asia it can take a month to arrive at my door from the time it reaches Canada. Normally it's better from the US though.

I just hope we won't end up in a Europe-like situation with massive taxes on our orders.

For reference, we were in talks for REZ and that is what we were salty about. We're huge REZ fans so it really stung to lose. I don't think it would be kosher to go into further details about any of this. Should just leave it at we're sad it's not us but still happy to see the game on disc.

That's unfortunate. Would have much preferred ordering from you guys. Ah well, I'm sure you've got plenty of great games lined up :).

The publisher for REZ is Sega?

Figures. They’ve always been idiots.

I can imagine that maybe they wanted a pre-order system or something.
Anyways I'm sure many games will come and even better than Rez from yours, and regarding what people say your customer service(seeing complains about the other company) and the pricing of the games is much better(and we also get the sticker and postcard) etc, so nothing to worry since we support ou exactly the same.

For reference, iam8bit will be sending the games Media Mail. The next cheapest option is FedEx at $12.66 (!!). There is no reason to send a game media mail, it's literally a difference of $0.20 - $0.30 between First Class (what we use) and Media Mail. Prepare for crushed cases and loose discs galore.

I was about to say, where is the First Class mail option?
Media Mail or FedEx? The hell?

EDIT:
The options it gave me for 2 games.
Media @ $5.00
FedEx @ $8.94

So prices are inconsistent from above?

Don't think I'm gonna get REZ, just gonna cost way too much when you convert it to CAD. I will be getting up at 6:30 to order Shadow Complex and Rainbow Moon, hopefully I don't sleep in.

Any Canadians get their Soldner X-2 and/or Breach & Clear Deadline order(s) yet? My tracking information hasn't updated in a week.

Yep same thing on my end. Last update was on the 11th that it departed a terminal in New York. Seems odd since New York to Canada is obviously not a week long journey and tracking usually says it is with customs once they get it. So seems we can't even blame slow customs unless there are just issues with the tracking?

At least it doesn't seem to have gone to another country. To this day I am still baffled by the journey my Vita copy of Retro City Rampage DX went on. Everything was going normal up to getting to Los Angeles. But then instead of heading to Canada from LA it went to London, England followed by not arriving until more than a month later with no further tracking updates. So who knows where else it went =p Got to the point I got concerned and ordered a second copy from VGP. Which is why I have yet to order Shovel Knight in hopes VGP carry it.

We'll check in with APC and see why Canada shipments are taking so long. It seems like we may have to add you all to our duties paid list soon - we've never really had issues sending games to Canada.

All this noise about iam8bit is not encouraging... But that's a physical game so... I don't know.
40 is quite a lot but if the shipping cost are reasonable then why not.

If few people preorder the game, paradoxically it will become even harder to find and more expensive. So it's now or never in a way.

I think it's not so much about actually reading them but more about the love and effort that publishers put into it. I was really impressed when I opened my copy of Shovel Knight (PS4), which has a 40+ pages manual. Of course I won't read all of it but it's a love letters to collectors. In contrast, almost all NA Vita games come without a manual or even inlay, which makes the case feel pretty empty when you open it.
That's true, I definitely agree that it feels like the developers truly care about those customers picking up a physical copy. Take witcher 3 for example, what came with that game had me sincerely shook. I can understand collectors caring for those things, hell, I'm extremely strict about always going for a cib game where possible, no matter how much extra I'll have to pay for the manual alone.

Holy shit. Fallout 4 is my most played game at 270 hours. To have over 600 into something though? That's dedication.

I haven't been interested in Rainbow Moon after having watched some videos of it. Maybe you're the right person to tell me why I should reconsider?
That's a lot for a sp game. I think my longest is less than 100, mmos like wow and ff14 however, oh my.

Just wanted to post to say that more physical games is always a good thing. Let's all give iam8bit the chance and I'm sure they'll do a stellar job. The vinyls I've gotten from them have been great.

Douglas and I were salt-posting earlier and it was not exactly sportsman like. Let's embrace all of our allies in fighting the good fight for physical media!

I'm not really interested in VR, but it's Rez... will probably end up adding it to my collection regardless.

Edit: Oh, looks like you can even play it without VR. That's cool. :)
