Limited Run Games - Putting digital games into your hands

So I just got the email talking about the upcoming Shantae releases and dang my wallet is going to hurt soon! 25 for one game and 30 for the other one which is fine, but then 15 each for three CDs is going to be the killer. That's 100 bucks right there! But I want to collect the Shantae merchandise so....Yeah there's a lot going away this month.

With Oddworld Inhabitants replying to that tweet it's probably Strangers Wrath which isn't for me but I know it's solid and will sell out easy so that's cool!

i was checking ebay last night for any vita games i wanted and saw one way heroics for $31.50 buy it now sealed. perhaps the novelty of limited games is wearing off and its all about the quality of the game now.

Games aren't truly rare or collectable if they are readily available and or there's no interest in the resellers market. LRG are not as rare or collectable as everyone thinks they are. I buy them because it's fun. Not because $$$$$.

I'm hype for Stranger's Wrath, if that's what it is... and for the inevitable Munch's Oddysee too.

Games with filesizes that big, from that era of the Vita, make me think of Jet Set Radio too. Ah, if only companies like Sega weren't such ivory towers.

For anyone interested in what he's talking about. Yay.

Stranger's Wrath is a double-win for me. It's never left my memory card since I bought it so I'd love to own a physical copy to keep forever, but aside from that it's one of the biggest games on my memory card (1.5GB). Only games that are bigger are the four Atelier titles that take up a whopping 3GB each.

After that it's fairly alright - Munch's Oddysee is 1.1GB; Jet Set Radio is 1.2GB and everything else is sub 1GB, although Bastion is pushing it.

While we're on the subject, some PSP games have crazy file sizes, and PS1 games. FF VIII is 1.8GB and GTA VCS is 1.6GB.

But anyway, I'm veering off topic :P

Yeah, I often wished for some way to completely excise FMV from stuff like FFIV Complete or FFVI and Chrono Trigger. If they were just SNES roms (or close to), they would take up pretty insignificant amounts of MB like PSP Mini's do.

I think it's just a question of time. Every single LRG release will probably be worth $100+ somewhere down the line. Some games reach that price point earlier (Breach & Clear), others might take a bit longer.

While I personally love collecting games, I'm glad that I've never felt the urge to truly must own something so badly that I spent hundreds of dollars on a single game. What I think makes collecting interesting is being patient and looking out for bargains. But to each their own...

Poll time! When do you think the last batch of Vita games will come out?

https://twitter.com/LimitedRunGames/status/789981360098246656

2030 if we have anything to say about it.

Lot of pessimists on here saying 2018. No way. Not unless Sony shuts us down. 😎

Apparently a lot of Limited Run followers want the Vita to cease having releases in the next two years.

Or for some reason are super pessimistic. I'm not lying when I say @LimitedRunGames is putting out Vita games til the bitter end.

I voted 2018, just being realistic. But I was thinking of new releases in the west.

Doesn't mean I want them to stop, and I'll definitely buy a LRG Vita game in 2019 if they release them.

I also voted 2018. Since the poll said "last batch of Vita games" I think that's realistically the year when we'll see releases start drying up and we'll get less of a stream of games as we've been getting prior to that.

I'm sure games will still come out in 2019 etc., but they'll be much fewer and further between.

I think there will be Vita games in 2019 and possibly beyond that too. If physical releases through LRG are feasible at that point is debatable though but I believe we'll see something.

A different device and a different situation but the PSP actually got two good games in 2015, Summon Night 5 and Brandish: The Dark Revenant. Both kind of exclusives too. Supposedly it will get another one in 2016/2017 too in Class of Heroes 3.

Edit: not a "batch" but Retro City Rampage PSP was actually released just recently too.

Also have a tab open for each item you want to purchase. When it's time, add the game, move to the next tab and do the same until you get to the last tab where you add, then check out.

So this week will be my first time ordering through LRG for the Shantae games and soundtracks. Any tips on securing the order?

Make sure you have accounts and log in on both PayPal and LRG's site a few minutes in advance and if you become logged out for whatever reason, make sure your credentials are saved in your browser. Use multiple tabs if ordering multiple items, one tab per item. Start refreshing the tabs on the hour sharp, not a few minutes late.

Get there faster than the number of people for which there is a copy available.

J/k

Try having fast checkout via paypal enabled :)

Awesome thanks guys. I'm not sure if I have fast checkout enabled but whenever I buy something from ebay it shows my bank account as the payment method so I hope that's the same thing.

Also, to save time I already placed the shipping box and two protective cases in cart. Hopefully they will still be there when Friday hits and I add the games and stuff. Don't want anything to get damaged.

Unfortunately I will doing all of this on my phone so hopefully that won't slow me down too much.

I voted 2020+ 'cause that was a mainstream question asking for niche answers.

We'll be making Vita games until Sony closes down the production lines. PSP games stayed in production for over a decade. I have no reason to assume Vita games won't. The Vita may not have been very popular in the western world but it is fairly popular in Japan - at least enough to sustain game production for another few years.

I think one of the November titles will be Fault Milestone One.

Any reasoning for this or just a wild guess?

I'm not expecting any of the Sekai ports until 2017, but I'd love to be wrong on that. My wallet would prefer them to be 2017 though, especially if November is gonna be Volume/Oddworld :P

Original release date is Fall and it was the first one announced from Sekai Project.

Okay so, LRG can't combine shipping on multiple orders, and they put the soundtracks up before the games, so basically if I want to make sure I get the soundtracks and games I need to pay for shipping twice? It that right?

I don't get where Sal got 'Fall' from. The rest of his post quotes the PS Blog which doesn't mention any release windows, but he's added 'Fall' and 'Winter' from somewhere.

*shrug*. It's as good a guess as any I suppose!

I remember reading Aku Audi mentioning "Fall" on GAF as well. Twitter might have those release windows too.

Fair enough. I kinda hope it is because the sooner they're out, the sooner we can get more Sekai on Vita (providing they sell well enough I suppose), but November is a heavy month for me :P

This brings me to ask: while for PSP and Vita there would be obvious pratical reasons for stopping released once production of carts is finished, is there any reason why you cant release games for old disk based consoles like PS3 with rich online libraries? I guess it would open up a lot of possibilities.

Sounds about right. Can't cancel orders either in case it stays in stock long enough to order it with the games.

Unfortunately, since PS3 games actually run from the disc there is a lot more work involved with doing disc releases. It's been hard to get anyone on board for PS3 releases.

That's disappointing. Too bad that the 360 isn't open to you guys; if I remember correctly the games can be put on disc as arcade files without any interfere needed.

We at Sekai Project along with CreSpirit are proud to announce Rabi-Ribi is coming to PS4 and PS Vita this winter, and is console exclusive to PlayStation platforms!

fault milestone one is definitely not coming in the Fall. We're still hard at work on the port over at Mighty Rabbit. The solution we're building to easily bring Ren'Py games into Unity is taking a bit longer than we'd hoped. Optimistically I'd say Spring for that, but realistically, May/June.

Arent the vita oddworld games around 1 gb each? Id prefer if at least stranger and munch were bundled as id def get that retail

The problem with this that we've seen before is that the developer would have to go back and re-program the game to have a splash screen to allow you to boot into the two games differently, which is extra time and effort and not really worth it when they're only selling small quantities of physical copies.

It's the same reason Hotline Miami 2 was a download voucher in the Japanese retail release I believe.

But, I have faith that if Stranger's does well we'll get Munch's eventually. LRG have shown they're dedicated to the cause and Oddworld keep coming back for these physical releases (plus they were one of the first companies to sign on to the initiative in the first place).

Side note, I wonder if we'll get Soulstorm on Vita. I hope so.

Huh. This is surely only a limitation in the west? For example Okami HD physical copy installs to the harddrive, as does Strider (2014). Now that I think about it, as do some sony first party compilations, like the Journey one. Did they just not make this available to 3rd parties in the west?
