LINDBERGH = X360 AC board ??

so HOTD4 was using 1/4 of full power, right???!

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

edit: Or at least it flies in the face of everything I'VE been told; it's supposed to be a PowerVR solution that is very cheap for Sega to make.

.... I'm still craving for VF5 and Sonic. You should have seen the games with your own eyes at E3, it's so fu*king unbelievable! Anyhow I still want everything else.

Sorry that I can't contribute to this thread with useful information though.

From the Beyond3D forums (quoting myself):

"I watched Shog's E3 vid again and this is what the female announcer says between the end of the Chrome Hounds demo and the start of the VF demo: "OK, now for something even more exclusive; from our world-class Sega [inaudible] development studios comes a little surprise; an exciting technology demonstration that is not a pre-rendered movie (I don't know whether or not this was implying that Chrome Hounds et al were not realtime) that will blow your mind. So without further ado, let's begin."

Then follows VF, AfterBurner, HotD4 and Sonic, until the announcer says: "What you are seeing is being controlled in realtime." during the Sonic demo.

At the end she says: "In fact I want to remind everyone that this entire performance was done without prerendered graphics. This "Next Level" that you've just witnessed may be coming sooner than you think. This concludes bla bla..."
"

"The Lindbergh = X360 arcade thing is still just wishful thinking from X-bots. Chrome Hounds was clearly distinguished from VF/AfterBurner/HotD & Sonic in the E3 presentation: "OK, now for something even more exclusive...". every indication we have right now is that Lindbergh is the Series 5-based board."

...

I'd hope that isn't 360 hardware...

As an arcade game, you'd expect them to put the hardware to great use. All of the Chihiro based arcade games, for example, are really quite stunning to behold. If the first 360-based arcade game was, in fact, HotD4...I'd expect something leaps and bounds beyond those shots.

Why would xbots want their games to look crappy like those HOD4 screens?

They also want VF, Sonic etc. on X360, so I still regard this as wishful speculation on the part of X-Bots at this stage.

The game only has two playable levels at the moment, so I don't think the game is nearly finished yet. The screenshots (not the photos) also don't have any game stats (bullets remanining etc.) on the screen; indicating that they may be from earlier in developement. Two of the screenshots are also used on the arcade flyer; which also indicates that the shots may be a bit earlier in development than initially thought.

Yeah seriously...

They may want some of those games on the 360, but I doubt anyone wants these shots to have originated from the 360.

In action, the scenes with hundreds of undead writhing around and the claustrophobic encounters with them pounding on the walls surrounding the player really capture the horror of a zombie film.

I'd love to see a scene in HotD4 similar to that of the X360 Dead Rising tunnel scene (shown at the end of the trailer). Thousands of zombies rushing the character who is standing atop a ruined vehicle.

Here's a sample (more are viewable in the trailer even)...

The individual zombes seem more detailed than HotD4 as well...

Sega's upcoming lineup of boards:

Aurura = super cheap lowend PowerVR MBX board
Lindbergh = affordable highend PowerVR5 board

(guessing) Chihiro 2 = Xbox 360 based board

?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

xbots lust for VF is seriously disturbing sometimes.

Yeah, it's weird. Why would they want an awesome fighting game? Freaks.

They aren't, and the framerates aren't the same either.

Well, hopefully HotD4 isn't running on 360 hardware...cuz it looks like cold leftovers from current gen PC stuff. Dead Rising doesn't impress either, for the most part, but the scenes with tons of zombies on screen (all well rounded) look pretty neat.

I'd hate to see the first 360 based arcade game looking like that. My faith in the hardware would be shaken once more, if that were the case...

honestly, I am not impressed with the direct screen captures of HOTD4 at all.

I'm sure it looks better in motion though. I am kind of hoping that somehow, HOTD4 is not running on PowerVR Series 5, even though the board is still called Lindbergh.

well, the announcer at sega's demo did kind of seperate full auto/condemed/chrome hounds from the remianing games... but that could also be because the remianing games were never, and have never, been announced (aside from hotd4). remember, sonic was being controlled in real time using a 360 pad.

with that said, this is still a bit confusing, and i'm not ready to believe that lindberg = 360. first, it seems unlikely that sega would be having an arcade test of a game thats running on anything less then the final hardware. are finished kits even out yet? secondly, there has been quite a bit of information on lindberg as powervr...

yet, it looks like shit and you agree with me.

Everyone who's actually seen the game in motion says it looks just fine. The games is only due in December, apparently anyway.

well, looking "just fine" isnt really good enough for sega's next gen arcade games.

Yeah, to go from the days of Model 3's "HOLY SHIT, THERE IS NOTHING LIKE THAT AT HOME" to..."eh, it's just fine" is a pretty big step back. New Sega arcade games should not be destroyed by the consoles.

If this is 360, shame on Sega, as they either don't know how to use the hardware OR 360 is actually crap. If this is something else, shame on Sega again, as they chose low-end technology for their next board...

if its 360, then it was obviously running as good as it did at e3 on the alpha kits... so that doesnt mean sega sucks, or that 360 sucks. but like i said earlier, it wouldnt make sense to have an arcade test for a game that isnt at least quite close to finished (engine wise, maybe not content wise)

FT > Evo & VF5 is on the way.

That's great except FT isn't coming to home consoles anytime soon. And if it does the likely system is PS2 only. VF5 home port is completely unknown in terms of time and console.

The idea is that if you like VF, you should own a PS2 currently. End of story.

Dude, I don't have a PS2. I'll be playing VF5 in the arcade.

Dude, haven't you kept up with this guy? He enjoys playing VF in his HEAD pretending it's Dreamcast 2. He isn't about actual gaming, ya know. Quality games? F*ck that! If it ain't Dreamcast, he ain't playin'.

Ya gotta love someone who claims to be a fan of a certain company yet refuses to support them with actual money...

We're all a bit biased around here, but most of us have no problems with owning multiple consoles. When someone becomes so biased and hateful of other companies that they actually begin to avoid playing games they seemingly "love"...you know there is something wrong.

nah, i dont think its based on x360. GoW and PGR3 (and Oblivion, i guess) probably show what that machine is actually capable of, unless both Epic and Bizarre are lying through their teeth (i dont see any reason why they would be).
which basically makes me wonder why sega chose to go with a weak arcade system now, of all times. right before the unveiling of next gen consoles.
seems like a waste of money. they would be better off making ps3 and xbox360 based arcade boards, since both are so powerful.
the days of arcades being superior to home consoles are pretty much over, as these super consoles are too powerful. it'll cost too much in R&D to even try to supercede them. no need to anyway, barring an innovation in display technology.

i also dont understand why sega would create their own arcade board, especially if its in the same class (graphics-wise) of 360/ps3. wouldnt licensing the 360/ps3 hardware for an arcade board be FAR cheaper and yeild what would appear to be better results?

personally, i'm still hoping that lindberg IS 360, just so i can hope for speedy and perfect ports.

I play VF both in the arcade and on PS2. MAME has plenty of quality games, btw. The last console I actuallt owned was a Saturn. I don't have a problem with playable games on any platform, but I do have a problem with people dumping a console based on hype for another console.

Sega wants to offer something at least unique in order to entice people into returing the arcades.

You didn't even own a DC. SHAME ON YOU!!! I WAS THERE BABY! DAY 1 IN THE US! 9-9-99!! SONIC. BLUE STINGER (rawk). SOUL CALIBUR. DC DAY.

Sega dumped DC, though...

Shame you didn't actuallt own one. I supported Sega with my money and bought 95% of my DC games on DAY ONE for $50.

I'm not a moron, though, and I don't worship dead hardware. I remember it as the amazing system it was (salute). I don't drag its name through the mud by bringing it up where it doesn't belong, though...

as opposed to bringing in the same games on superior hardware?
and enough with the dots, you!!!
that was my old trademark.

"I was working at cex in 2K, so I played everything as much as I wanted."

did you make sure to chain smoke and throw beer over the games whilst blaring death metal at a cool Spinal Tap "11" , or did you work in a branch that wasn't in London? ;)

I thought it was already confirmed that Lindbergh was not 360 hardware so why do you guys still think it might be 360 hardware? Seems like worthless speculation. This thread shouldn't have even been made.

Lindbergh = NOT X360

Lindbergh = NOT X360

agreed.

Sega Sammy don't want to wait until the middle of next year to start releasing their new generation of arcade games after both the X360 and PS3 have come out, and they're not going to rush the development cycle of an arcade game as if it were a console launch title. With a debut at E3, Lindbergh has been running the new Afterburner, Sonic, The House of the Dead 4, and Virtua Fighter at full speed since the beginning of the year, coming from the generation in graphics before X360.

Barnimal said:
if the games at e3 were being controlled with a 360 controller, what ither proof do you need?

that does NOT settle it.

op_ivy said SONIC was controlled realtime on an Xbox 360 controller. and SEGA said the demos were realtime

however, that does NOT mean that House Of The Dead 4 was running on Xbox 360.

has sega themselves mentioned power VR or was that speculation? if they havent, way too much is being put into the "seperation" of games at the e3 theater. its all 360
