Okay guys hear me out. It's Aliens: Colonial Marines, but in the StarCraft universe.

Let me paint a picture.

Up to four player co-op, you and your squad have been saddled with the wonderful job of investigating an old Terran command and research center on Tarsonis. All you know is the place has been infested by and overrun by the zerg. Why not just nuke the place? Well darn it, it turns out that the ol Moebius Foundation was doing some research here with unknown technologies and the powers that be want to get their hands on them. So get in there and clear out the zerg, recover the research, and try not to get yourself or your team killed, huh?

Play as the all rounder,
jARLJ4V.gif
Marine.

The heart of the party,
F2ZdkGe.gif
Medic.

High DPS, short range,
nKo5B0c.gif
Firebat.

Sniper, tech specialist,
grt1bCJ.gif
Ghost.

Mix and match as you see fit. Play solo. Play with bots. Play with friends. I'm thinking Left 4 Dead characterization. Some depth and interaction but not so much that it feels like "that character" belongs in this story. These are just people here doing a job. No one's got a special connection to this place. No unnecessary bullshit. This is just another job.

Flimflam space technology is such a wonderful gameplay opportunity. Maybe you and your crew find the research macguffin and you can either 1) use it now and ONE character receives a special benefit for the party - like medic gets a slow aoe regen under 50% health, marine gets aoe ammo regen, firebat gets an aoe damage shield, ghost gets aoe short duration cloaking or 2) DON'T use the research and bring it back to command- assuming you live- and all character archetypes that finished the campaign receive a permanent stat boost of some kind. You can randomize the type of technology found. Maybe instead of giving you AOE benefits, this game has Protoss shield research, etc.

I also really like the idea of finite pickups. Energy tanks, ammo and health pickups.. Limited resources build tension, and that tension can lead to memorable moments in gaming. Energy for cloaking and healing, etc, isn't unlimited. Characters will have to pick up energy packs, battery packs, whatever in order to refill and use their abilities. Same for ammo. Ammo is finite, and while pickups are not uncommon, you can't be wasteful. So having a character that can potentially provide regen for the whole party for one of these things could take a lot of stress off the group. It's a choice, for sure, but more choices is a good thing.

This roguelike gameplay encourages repeat plays and drives engagement. Ultimately isn't that what you want? People playing your game for long periods?

Now that we have a framework of a squad and roguelike gameplay, you can then sell expansions with additional maps and research to discover.

StarCraft has such wonderfully rich characters, and I'm not even talking about individuals like Kerrigan or Raynor or anyone. The creatures of this universe!
The hydralisk,
Hydralisk_SC1_Art2.jpg
, the zergling
Zergling_SC2_Cncpt2.jpg
- these fuckers are scary! And so many other zerg, terran, and even protoss units have such amazing designs. There is a ton of potential here for some real scary, exciting encounters in dark, enclosed spaces of an old, abandoned, INFESTED command center.

So IDK just go ahead and call me, Blizzard.

how about a warcraft universe first person RPG skyrim alike game?

come on blizzard

So wait....one of the guys responsible for fuckin up Overwatch 2 is involved, and that's supposed to be a good thing?

Color me unenthused until I get proof this isn't a micro transaction riddled mess; till then, I'll hold my excitement.

I'd rather have a 3rd person RPG. Coming from Blizzard it could be great. It could also be bad though :(
Just keep those "modern audience" devs away from it pls

I have some doubts about competency and capability from Blizzard side. That goes double for writing, storytelling and characterization.

Chances are the game would be they/them/Concord shit all the way directed at a "modern audience" with all the modern "Message" rolled in.

I guess we will find out sometimes in 2030s.

I'm not really interested unless it's as far from GaaS as possible.
At most I'd take a co-op campaign style game, I don't even want it to be a looter shooter.
I'm so done with that type of game.

Information roundup about what we know of this project so far via Reddit.

Hello, so I've been very intrigued by this mysterious project. Here is a dotpoint list of current leaks, info and listings related to it as of tonight:
  • First things first, this is not related to the cancelled survival game "Odyssey", it is a brand new team in Blizzard
  • there have been many job listings recently related to this project. source: https://careers.blizzard.com/en
* Many King employees have been moved onto this project (source: LinkedIn). despite this, the game is a AAA console/PC project according to job listings EDIT: it is for another smaller project
  • The genre is a RPGFPS. this was found via an accidental leak on Chris McCabe's LinkedIn Profile (changed now). source: https://files.catbox.moe/311wws.jpeg
  • Chris McCabe is currently the Product Manager for Overwatch 2. Not sure what that means, could mean the project is Overwatch related but this is merely speculation
  • This project is Open World, Mission based with co-op according to previous Job listings. more info here:
  • via an email i sent to industry insider Jason Schreier asking to clarify, his next book "Play Nice" has a hint about this project. source: https://files.catbox.moe/wmu05g.jpeg
  • Dan Hay, Former Executive Producer of Far Cry franchise is the GM and VP of this project. For comparison, Rod Fergusson's role for Diablo 4 is exactly this. source: https://files.catbox.moe/tpn0kx.jpeg
  • According to Hay's portfolio, he has been part of the project since 2022 . However, a lot of the employees were hired around this spring/summer. source: https://www.danhay.net/about

Aaaaand thats it so far! of course, take some of this with a grain of salt. it could be canned like Odyssey after all. Hope you guys found use of this roundup :D
