Nothing on an internet forum pisses me off, but some things are kind of annoying.

"I thought this was common knowledge?"

and

smh

I just imagine someone with their arms crossed shaking their heads at the monitor, like they have all the fucking answers.

STOP USING THESE EMOTICONS.

how can you expected to be taken seriously if most of your sentences contain one of thge above.

originally all the simple people in german language boards used XD after 90% of their random sentences that are not even funny.

but recently i noticed "xD" used more and more on gaf and it is driving me insane.
xD is an indicator on my facebook if I can take this person seriously or not, as it happens to be that only dumb people use it.

so gaf. stop using XD and ^^

(and everytime i ask someone to stop using it, a billion "trolls" post it afterwards)

I'm glad no one mentioned gif responses. Where would we I be without them?

GIF responses only bother me if they're used to form a serious argument rather than a joke. I'm all for using them as a joke

Forum "celebrities" that get special treatment, shitty useless threads about your lives, people asking stupid questions and stupid people in general.

List threads. Unless it's the GOTY voting thread, or something, where the posts are going to be electronically read, there is absolutely nothing enjoyable about scrolling through pages upon pages of posts which are nothing but lists of titles or pictures of album art. Personally, I would love for there to be a rule that any sort of "list thread" carry a requirement to explain, even briefly, each choice. Then there would at least be some actual content instead of what amounts to pages of noise.

Gif responses.

People who quote the entire OP.

Excessive emoticon use.

Excessive ellipsis use.

...I could really go on for far too long.

  • People who refuse to use avatars. What? You think your posts are that memorable?
  • People who get overly sensitive about celebrity deaths, name those celebrities who are mocked until the day they die. ("lol, Amy Winehouse died"..."Too soon, bro, show compassion")
  • People who use another poster's status as "Junior" to degrade said user or their posts.
  • People who are iconoclasts in their own mind - people who think they have a "cult following" on GAF.
  • People who post images of obscure bands without telling the forum who they are ("Oh, you wouldn't know them. If you're cool, you don't need to be told").
  • People who ascribe their vices to the rest of the forum out of some misplaced pragmatism ("I masturbate to porn 5 times a day, every day. Those who say they don't are liars").
  • Threads about female teachers sexing younger male students. What, you think we're going to discuss something new in this umpteenth thread?
  • People who respond to my posts (namely in a heated debate) after I've explicitly stated I'm done replying. Awesome, you've got the last word. You won.
  • People who make fun of "geeks" or "nerds" on a dedicated gaming site. Gaming is a geeky hobby, no way around it. The sooner you acknowledge it, the better off you'll be.

More to come, surely...

Hit and run posting of any sort annoys me quite a bit. Some people do it rather a lot.

Guilty.

Fact of the matter is I'm here to read, mostly, and drop my two cents here and there. I have no time or patience to follow up on my posts. I just don't care enough. :shrug It's nothing personal.

It mainly annoys me when people are having a lengthy debate and another poster just pops in, says something relatively stupid, then leaves. Seems to particularly happen when the topic is religion.

For the first bolded one, I can't really see where you're going with this, because I'm pretty sure it's relatively known that Nix>GAF>Internet>/Nix. So therefore, it's not like I have a cult following, but it's more like, you are my lowly constituents.

For the second part, I don't know man. I have work and school from 9 to 11 and yeah, I don't think I'm going to be bucking off in public; moreso because I don't roll that way (Exhibitionism isn't my thing), but cool for those of you can.

When people edit a quote and reply to the post below them into their older post. I'll be reading a thread and then be confused as to where something they're replying to came from, only to find it three posts down. Keep it chronological, people!

and this too.

I hate rage comics and the stupid faces from them.

People who quote the entire OP and then only respond with a point valid to one sentence in the whole thing.

Help GAF! threads. Seriously, if a decision is important, you really don't need to be asking GAF, you're unlikely to get a decent answer anyway. Not bitching about GAF, but most replies aren't serious in these kind of threads.

oh yeah: empty vessel, fortified_concept, the dude with the pink hitler avatar, and the dude with the lenin avatar get honorable mentions

pervasive worship of the status quo
You see this alot on GAF, for some reason. I think it ties into something I posted earlier, about some posters having a sort of self-perceived ultra-pragmatism that really just kind of devolves into a "this is how it is, fuck you for being idealistic" attitude when it comes to heated discussions. They accept that they'll never lead a revolution in rational thought, so they tear down people who try because it just pisses them off and reminds them of their short-comings. Also:

  • People who view a single mediocre game as the death of a franchise/developer.
  • Genuinely enthusiastic threads about romantic comedies or pretensious art-house flicks. What do you mean, not everyone has my taste in movies?
  • People who attempt to diffuse arguments by posting them in advance..."Oh, I bet you'll say..." And you're right, I will say it, because it's the best argument I've got. If it's so obvious it's probably right.
  • Posters who lay heavy shit on a thread without invitation, sometimes a troll, sometimes dead serious i.e. "I was raped when I was 10"...in a thread about first sexual encounters.

Passive aggressive posts.

Arguing over semantics that would not occur in a face to face conversation at a pub. Take the time to read people's posts and read between their lines, read them twice maybe even spend the time to read the context they were posted in twice over. Give the poster the benefit of the doubt. Then reply to the post, ideally without exhibiting point numero uno.
