LittleBigPlanet 3 (PS4) and LittleBigPlanet DLC on the PlayStation Store will be removed on October 31, 2024

Why remove the entire game? Shut down the servers but keep single-player. It's a first-party game. Does it cost Sony that much to keep it there?

The thought that Sony may be discontinuing Sackboy in future marketing promos depresses me

What's the point of delisting when owners still can download?

I don't get it
I'd imagine there may be licensed music or something in there that can no longer be sold and not worth patching out (maybe)

On a separate/related note, I'd love LBP remaster collection, with just the storylines of each game.

Don't get what the point of completely removing the perfectly playable offline game, unless they plan on re-mastering it, which is highly doubtful at this point.

With more and more PS5 digital only and a PS6 digital only old games can be remade/remastered for a new audience that has no option but to buy them new this way.

I tried playing Sackboy after getting back into Astro Bot. It's awful in comparison, so I gave up on it. Sumo has a lot of work getting it up to snuff for a sequel.

I've recently started playing that too, wanted another fun 3D platformer after Astro. I'm having quite fun with it and absolutely wouldn't call it "awful", but yeah, it's like a 7/10 whereas Astro is a strong 9/10 or maybe even a 10/10. Sackboy just isn't as creative (most levels feel kinda samey, just with different theming), and feels nowhere near as good to play.

One good thing is that it seems quite a bit more challenging (especially the optional trial levels), although that sometimes turns into frustration because the controls just aren't as good.

Normally it has to do with music licensing. Developers most times use year based licenses and when the license can be renewed, but the game doesn't sell anymore the contract won't get renewed instead the game is delisted.

This is also why sports games get delisted after a while (also e.g. Forza games because of music and maybe even car models).

This is really sad. Maybe they should just make contracts on sold units. So a few pennies for every sold copy and no longer delist games. This is such a shame. When physical media dies, you have at one point not even the chance to get an old game later.

It's tradition for Sony to take down games from the ps store, I've said it early physical games are the way to go, digital I predict will be the version to go with but be warned, all these games getting taken down (battlefield 4, socom, little big planet now) is proof.

On one hand I get what you are saying. But if you own these digitally you are not having them taken off you and you are also more likely to be able to play them on future hardware generations.

All games designed for mostly online play. So you still want them to sell the game and not be able to play it 🧐

Can you still buy the game on disc and patch it? I may grab a copy.

Can you still buy DLC in the game after the shutdown?

Edit: Ah. The DLC will not be available. Ok. I bought a disc on Amazon and will download any interesting DLC while I can.

I guess in a few years shadps4 will save the day, just live rpcs3 did with lbp2.

Thank God for emulators.

Just add this to the list of reasons why Sony is becoming completely irrelevant. Why would you throw away years and years of user content? They could've made a LittleBigPlanet 4 and kept it going. So profoundly stupid. They have so many great IPs but don't do anything good with them.
