Game of the Year edition to include already released downloadable content; Out this year.

Media Molecule is working on a LittleBigPlanet Game of the Year edition for PlayStation 3, MCV can reveal.

The new title is due for release this year and will feature much of the downloadable content currently available over the PlayStation Network.

LittleBigPlanet was released in November last year to huge critical acclaim. A PSP version of the title is set for release during the fourth quarter.

LBP has been 12 euros in play.com for forever now, maybe I should bite it!
for all the negativity I've had towards LBP in the past, it is definitely worth experiencing, especially for that price. bite.

This edition better not have anything that you can't download on the store, at all.
it's not like there's some sort of rule, but "GOTY editions" rarely (never?) have content that isn't downloadable.

Wasn't Fallout 3 collectively praised as GOTY?

I'm confused.

Either way LBP is tight, needs more support :)

Wait until you see one of the Her Interactive Nancy Drew games get a GotY edition. Then you'll question everything.

I wonder how much DLC they'll pack in. It's probably to promote the PSP version but you can get the original game now a very low price these days.

Blegh, Ghostbusters costumes arent as good as I'd hoped (no oversized Proton Pack, just a small one?) and of course no level content.

I really enjoyed LBP in 2008, but it's 2009 has been pretty lackluster indeed. Looking forward to the PSP version more these days than any DLC they put out each week.

but I believe LBP was the highest rated game last year.

game is great, but highest rated game of last year has got to be a bit of a travesty

in the end i personally felt it failed to live up to expectations whilst still being kick ass.

Wow, there's a lot of bitching here. Quelle surprise?

The game has as credible a stake on the 'goty' moniker (not least from a marketing POV, for a 'goty edition') as any of last year's other leading games.

I hope they have the new website and the next 'big dlc pack' out by the time this edition ships.

well, yes, i just imagine this is the next marketting scam

51 GOTY editions of games

wait, i'm talking rubbish, this happened years ago... carry on.

Wish it lasted more for me. I loved the story and a lot of the user levels are amazing but the user level experience is quite disjointed. Still, very charming and I'm glad I played it. Recommended.

so who is gonna buy this? the game is dirt cheap new right now, this will just be more expensive, thats not gonna increase sales

Well..there's a difference between games that can do it and games that can credibly do it. Anyone can stick 'goty' on their boxes and the police won't come breaking down your doors. 51 games can't credibly put that on the box though. I'm just saying all the bitching about LBP putting out a GOTY edition is unwarranted..it's one of a handful of games from last year that can back that up.

It's not dirt cheap everywhere (a couple of discounters only brought it down a bit from 59.99 here in Ireland in the last few weeks for example..and only down to 30 or 40 euro)..an edition like this should be cheaper everywhere. But also, I guess if you want the DLC that's packed in, that's why you might get it over the £10 pound original that might be available in your area. There should be $$ worth of DLC packed in.

But it has all the DLC...so it'll be cheaper...surely.

If you believe the box art proclamations, there are at least 16 GOTYs each and every year.

6 GOTY awards, including Edge and Eurogamer, as well as tonnes of awards from the industry (I believe it won 7 awards at one ceremony) as well as being the second highest rated video game of 2008 - surely it is THE game to deserve a GOTY edition?

I sold my ps3 long ago, but me and my wife played it on a kiosk and its mario brother with a friend. good times, I highly recommend those who haven't bought it to buy.

It better be compatible with the normal edition save.

But what I'd like even more would be a downloadable version.

of course they can - the spread on game of the year is huge so i don't see why LBP has any more credibility than any of the other games remotely pushed in that direction.

I agree with you fundamentally , but ultimately if ANY game that gets a single GOTY from any of the miriad of places, then anyone is entitled to slap a GOTY banner on it and farm it back out....

though that's not particularly a problem so not sure what i'm talking about!

God. 98/100. Shame on video game press.

funny that you let the rediculous 95/100 overrating of LBP get a free fucking pass.
Both are massively overrated whilst still being good games.
and review scoes = nuts in my mouth.

GOTY edition seems to be popping up here and there.

Game of the Year edition of Left 4 Dead, and I think Fallout 3 has a GOTY edition coming out this fall, or osmething.

Something as original as LBP can't be overrated. Free pass for being original maybe, but who cares. Still isn't the best rated game of all time, as GTA4 is. Shudders.

This makes me feel silly for having bought it when it came out. I still refuse to pay for any of its DLC. Would be nice to make all of the previous DLC free when this comes out.

I passed on LBP before, primarily because it launched when I did not have a PS3 and because I was worried the game might be one of those "Does not live up to the hype" titles.

With GOTY edition coming and solid proof the game has a thriving community, I will pick this up.

P.S. "Game of the Year" edition in gamespeak seems to mean "The version with all the stuff added to it." Unless its a recently released copy of Call of Duty 4.

where is it dirt cheap? Europe sure... in USA, online stores, best price is $47, Amazon has it for $57.

GOTY editions are usually a way to re-introduce game to the market at lower price.

The latter is what I was saying in that if I consider a game GOTY, it's enough to allow someone to slap 'goty' on the box as an excuse for a re-release. But how credible is that?

LBP has more credibility than most other games, because most people view that kind of credibility as a function of critical reception and awards. There isn't a wide spread of games that have had that same level of acclaim..there was only a handful last year, only a handful that IMO can consider themselves in that league based on how 'the industry' received them.

Was there this much bitching about the oblivion goty edition or the cod4 goty editions? I mean maybe there was, I've no idea. But I don't think in cases like that or in a case like this it's warranted..I don't think slapping 'goty' on games like that is an abuse of the title even if not everyone universally agrees they were the best games of their years :p

I could see why people would bitch if someone had the gall to put out a hannah montana goty edition or something, but pubs aren't that bad..yet. And making a LBP GOTY edition doesn't create a slippery slope toward such an awful future.

Can you point to a Game of the Year edition of a game that didn't receive a significant game of the year award though?

No, but I was just saying that there are people who feel that a game receiving a GOTY edition is some sort of deception since it implies that the game was the single best game of that year. Its a marketing ploy that far too many people take way too seriously.
