Live Killzone: Shadow Fall demo with Jimmy Fallon tomorrow

Killzone was one of the few franchises I said might lure me in to a day one purchase (dependant on price). I'm absolutely glad they showed it. Gunplay is second to none in KZ.

ditto,
when they first started to roll the footage during the press conference i had a grin from ear to ear.

You fail to understand what Im getting at.

Sony would of had a better showing if they showcased a new IP then other ho-hum sequel.

Sony is probably looking to want an established brand to help represent the PS4 at launch. I'm sure you'll get your fix of new I.P, but in this case Sony is going to leverage Killzone and give as much as exposure as possible with the PS4 launch. I think it is a very smart decision.

Besides, there a lot of people out there who are going to be excited for a new Killzone. People do like the series.

I can imagine the GG studio was pulling their hair and sweating bullets when they gave the controls over to Jimmy and company... These demo's are very linear, and bugs are covered up and worked around for a very limited way of playing.
You must have read my mind lol. I thought that they were actually playing a video of the Playstation meeting demo, because it played out the exact same way. When he gave up the controller, and all the fail happened, I said, "Ah, okay...they are actually playing the game".

This will be the last of this off-topic: The 3D Mario games are the most inventive in the genre. Not only did SM64 pretty much set up the genre, Galaxy games felt truly something new with the gravity mechanics. But yeah you can always look at Mario Kart and say that Nintendo has stayed the same these past two decades lol.
Point is, you can't call Derrik's point stupid when the games you are defending are doing the same exact thing. Mario Kart has not changed significantly since the first one on SNES. And I'm not even saying that it's a bad thing (I love Mario Kart). I'm just saying you're wrong.

And just like he said: "smash bros, and mario kart, and luigi's mansion, and animal crossing, etc etc".

C'mon bro, you wanna get on Killzone for being the same game but you're defending all this?

I mean, games like Uncharted and Max Payne 3 have come and gone since RE4 with the ability to move & shoot simultaneously. Max Payne raised the bar in games for weapon handling/enemy encounters/shot placement/etc, so I'd try that if you're looking gunplay better than RE4's tank controls.

Neither of those games come even close, sorry.

C'mon bro, you wanna get on Killzone for being the same game but you're defending all this?

I was defending Zelda and Mario. You should pay attention.

If that was your goal, well done but a bit easy. Saying stupid stuff will get reactions.
don't act like you struck a nerve with some Killzone fans. You struck a nerve by saying ridiculous stuff.

if you have a problem with Killzone as a FPS , don't play it. Very, very simple. I don't play games i don't like either.

See, this is were you is wrong: I posted my opinion about this and you make it seem like I was trolling. I have played both KZ2 and KZ3 + just a few hours with KZ on PS2 since that didn't age really well - I'm far away of having a problem with KZ and I will not allow you to make my post seem like a drive-by post or anything.

KZ2 was good, KZ3 was trash and this seems to continue where KZ3 stopped - that's my first impression and they have time until fall to do something about it.

What FPS in your mind is not bland?

I think you can say about the Call Of Duty franchise what you want, but BLOPS1+2 were good, MW4 was excellent. Halo 1 was cool, 2 and 3 better and Reach knocked it out of the park; it has a rich universe and the best thing about combat is that it is extremely dynamic and sandbox-like - those sandbox elements is something that GG could just copy and expand on it, but everything is a stale beautiful setpiece in that video. Half Life 1+2+Episodes, Portal 1+2 and I could list some more but this would get stupid.
Killzone is far from being the pinnacle of the genre, there is a lot of stuff to do and they can pull this off if they keep shit like Rico away from it - I like the KZ universe and think that the games could be way better in every aspect.

I'm not defending, i'm only asking what you would like to see instead since you criticize the gameplay. But if you simply think it looks boring, then that is fair enough because that is as subjective as it gets, i cant argue about that :) But if someone says that Killzone hasnt changed over the games in the serie, then that is not true.

Like I said, I played two of the mainline games and just a bit of the first - there was no huge change from 2 to 3 and it doesn't look like there will be a huge change from 3 to 4/Shadow Fall.

To be fair, the arguement can apply to every genre, also the games from Nintendo. It is possible to say that the gameplay in Mario Kart for example is bland. The sequels have new stuff changed and added to them (which can be defined as being evolved), but that goes for pretty much every sequel as well. It comes down to being subjective if someone enjoys it or not.

The thing is that Mario works for what it is: a simple stupid Kart Racing game. There aren't many games like it; people complain about 2D Marios but what are the alternatives besides Rayman? Killzone has to compete with dozens and dozens of other FPS games, many of which look far worse than it and many which do many things better than it. They need to give me a reason to buy this at launch if I decide to buy the PS4 at launch, and that video didn't convince me.

Perhaps you've only played through Killzone 2 and 3's singleplayer once AND never died during any part, but they had sandbox elements all over the place. For one the levels all offered multiple ways to approach them, and the AI weren't scripted but actually made decisions dynamically (seriously, Killzone's AI are some of the best I've ever seen in any shooter). A few set pieces here and there but every game has some set pieces, even COD and Halo.

Also I'm tired of people grouping Portal into the FPS genre. Yes it's first person and you are shooting [portals] so technically it is an "FPS" but it's nowhere near the same genre and therefore not comparable. I love Portal btw.

And if you wanna split hairs, I never once mentioned Nintendo.

Just admit you were wrong. I always do when I am.

Yes! Yes! Now i can see it! Its so much beautiful than a ps3 game! Everything is diferent! Im a believer now!

Im sorry, im really sorry. It still looks like any ps3/360 game

Would you give me your beefy PS3? Mine struggles with games that aren't nearly as impressive.

Wrong about what exactly? I said Mario Kart is not the most innovative series ever, but Zelda and Mario being very innovative indeed. Both are true.

The biggest change from Killzone 2 to Killzone 3 (at least in my opinion) was the addition of Operation Mode in multiplayer. I really like that mode and i hope that they will include it in Killzone 4 as well :)

The usual things that are changed/being different in a sequel are a new story for single player, new maps, new weapons, new abilities, new items and maybe tweaking/balancing of different stuff like the controllers and AI etc.. New modes in multiplayer is also not unusual. All of those things combined makes it a whole new game in that regards. We know that Killzone 4 will have most (if not all) of those things, and we've already got confirmed new abilities as climbing and slowing down time. My main point was just to point this out, that there are new things in the game. And if people wanted to see some more new things in the game, i was curious about what people would like to see being added or done differently. But of course, it variates from person to person exactly how interesting these things are, nothing wrong with that of course, i cant argue about that :)

I see your point. I just ment that it is possible to use the arguement about a lot of sequels (using Mario Kart as an example because Nintendo was brought up earlier) in pretty much every gaming genre, that sequels might not have huge changes compared to the previous games in the serie, and therefor not making it feel fresh enough for someone, while for others, the changes being done might be more than enough for them to enjoy the game a lot. But i see what you're saying, that there are more competition in the FPS genre than in the karting genre, and that is most likely true indeed. Then it might be harder to compete if there are a lot of FPS games to chose from, so i see your point there.

On Killzone 4, i hope that we will learn about the multiplayer as soon as possible. Personally, that is what i'm mostly interested in at least :)
