Living in NYC sucks when...

everybody wants to visit you from all over the world, as soon as you are remotely settled down.

I mean, all those friends, relatives and all never even called me once when I lived in freaking nowhere. (I mean, Iowa) - and since I moved to NYC 8 years ago, it's been like a parade of people coming. It's getting even worse after the marriage - now I have wife's side to worry about.

For the record, I just had a friend of my wife's came to visit her BF, yet stayed at our place (they are still kinda flirting/measuring each other) over the whole freaking holiday season. Christmas, New Years, you name it. Since I hardly know her, it's like having some stranger in my place, with no privacy.

It's not like I have this sign that says "come to my place! Free lodging and food, and I'll take you around NYC!" over my head. :( Visitors every other weekend, every single holidays, long weekends, etc.

*Rant off*

It's good to see other people, but I am just tired of greeting them all. Especially when I had no quality time over her winter break, and now she has to go back to school and get busy. Just a small reminder, that next holiday season, I WILL run away from this place, and get somewhere warm where there's no known natural disaster. :(

There is a word called "no".

I mean, you don't have to be a bitch about or anything, just make an excuse or some shit, its not that hard if you are really getting sick of it.

I wish I had such personality who can say "no" to others as well - but it's hard for me to do so, especially when they have no other place to stay in many cases, except outrageously expensive hotel, and I do not wish to be blamed/scorned for being a cheap, selfish bastard afterwards.

You could gently suggest that you get this all the time, and if they could pitch in to help with amenities, pay for meals, etc. while they were there, you'd really appreciate it... depending on whether you have the personality to request such a thing.
