CK, this "Strafe pass" wouldn't be the same play Matrix used to BEAT me, would it??????//// ;)

You know, I'm not even sure they're good players. Neither one of them can kick a field goal for shit, which is pretty basic stuff. And I'm not even talking about stuff that is simply "make-able" like a 30-40 yarder. I'm talking about PATs. Even the ones they actually do make are ugly and barely make it.

That's exactly what I was thinking. How in the world can that one guy make it to the finals when he sucks so bad at kicks? It also looked like he was just randomly switching his defense around with no ryhme or reason, like where he splits his four D linemen and then the fat dude just takes Vick and runs right through the hole. Wow, that whole thing was terrible.

This whole 'holier than thou' attitude, because you play sim games and they don't, is pretty damn funny. Guess what? He has 50 grand for playing Madden. You don't.

It should have been easy to stop the Strafe Catch... really easy. He was passing to his third or fourth receiver... *ahem*. ;) Fuck if I'll give away how to beat it, my opponents will have to figure it out!

This is why I rarely play online unless it's with a known good playing non cheese good attitude friend in Xbox Live. Otherwise I play with friends who come over to the house. And house fricken rules always apply and always, ALWAYS forbid the cheese.

I swear, there is absolutely no more scum of the gaming world than cheeseball sports gaming players. They are the same players who simply quit when you start beating them or shut down their cheese. The same idiots who scream and holler and spit vulgarities. Who have no manners... no character, no integrity and are usually online all day and all night playing constantly.

More than anything I wish Madden next year would implement some no cheese settings. For instance, not allowing for anyone to go for it on 4th down unless the circumstances are logical to do so. Forcing players to kick field goals when they should. Rules that disallow the same play to be played in a row, and no more than twice per quarter. Forcing a player to at least either run 30% of the time if they are pass happy, or vice versa if they're run happy. I could go on and on with rules like these. And I'm not saying this should be "forced" on a player... just that it was an option in the lobby, to be able to create a no cheese game and to search for them. Where these common set of rules would apply.

I don't think they ever stated that.

Hmm. Interesting. It is kinda important, since CPU controlled players on Rookie ond Pro levels are so freakin' dumb and slow, and it seems to hurt the D more than the offense.

I agree.

I've played the vast majority of my 100 ranked games (67-33!) against random guys, sometimes I pray I get the Vick cheeseball or the Eagles user that only lobs it to Owens. They are so one dimensional it is easy to beat them. What sucks is the guys that you play normally, then they take advantage for a few quick plays, then pretend nothing happened. I've given up on using the mic in random games because of the ludicrous reasoning they come up with. I've seen repeated four wide bunch double corners. Every fucking play. Oh well, thanks for the wins, suckers. :D

What a joke. Exploiting bugs and features would get you kicked out in any serious pc fps league.

Please tell me what bugs he was exploiting. I mean, you obviously watched the show.

I'm something like 47-55 but have lost 8 games cos I get disconnected. (I swear some assholes do something to get you disconnected).

Whats the strafe catch? I remember in 2004 sometimes players would slide like 5 yards to catch the ball, specialy in hook routes.

Well thank god for that Madden exclusivity deal for the next 5 years! The true sim is the only choice you will have! :lol :lol :lol

Have you played both Madden and ESPN this year?

I love watching the Madden Challenge each year because of the ridiculousness of it all. First off, every guy in the finals is a cheeser. Last year every highlight was some asshole jetpacking with peerless price, this year it's "Big Gene" the Madden Queen dropping back 20 yards and beating the snot out of the asshole running 5 wide sets every play (and sending out his running back illegaly BTW). Also, the announcers had me on the floor a couple of times. They try to make it like a football broadcast, but it's just kids playing videogames, so the commentary suffers. there's one time when the guy asks the "expert" about a play: "so, that play was very technical, how does someone go about learning that"
answer: "Well, first you pick up the control..... (long pause).... (goes on some BS rant)" Cut to an interview with "Pretty Boy" ..... "I ain't practice 15 hours a day to come here and lose!"

didn't you ESPN bums see the ESPN NFL tournament winner? I admit this madden shit was cheese, but try and find the video of the ESPN NFL tournament championship game if you want to see some real bullshit. i will only say a few words regarding it (and espn in general):

YY YYYYYYYYYY YYY YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY YYY

those who have played this shitfest know exactly what i'm talking about

Madden vs. ESPN is so... yesterday. We have no fucking choice now anyways, if ESPN was shit, EA wouldn't have done everything in their power to eliminate them. I personally don't think ESPN was better this year, but every year that gap was closing, and EA did what they had to. Anyway, I didn't even know they did an ESPN tournament, but with the $20 price tag on their games, I'm sure the winner got a $10 EB gift certificate and a picture with "star quarterback" Kordell Stewart.

Hard to imagine something topping the extreme cheeseball of Madden 2005,so where's this video? All I know is that the winners of the last two 2k tourneys ran the ball almost every play and could not be stopped.

:lol :lol One of those passes I had on you was a play action pass and my man was in single coverage.

Ive never even heard of strafe pass till this thread.

You guy's should be blaming EA for making such an exploitable game.. not these players.

Umm "dont have the playa hate the game"?

hitman let me guess: you sued mcdonalds because you got fat off their supersize fries?

videogames are always going to have exploits and glitches. you shouldn't be a complete fucking tool about it and use them in an ea sponsored tournament. i guess thats why i stay away from random games. too many jackasses who care more about winning dirty than playing a fun game. i can't imagine these guys are having fun actually playing the game this way

I purchased both, and while I certainly thought they both had faults many Madden lovers would like to pretend that Madden is more of a Sim when it reallly isn't. It doesn't matter now anyway, people only have one choice when it comes to licensed football games (game) in 2006.

Big Gene's bra's being put to good use:

VF doesnt have exploits

All I know is that the winners of the last two 2k tourneys ran the ball almost every play and could not be stopped.

One of those tournies would have been 2K4,the year that any fuckin RB in the game could do anything they wanted.I remember in our league last year I had Bettis up to like 2500 yards and the Bus could run like the wind trucking all people in his path :lol :lol

Simple fact is folks, both games are exploitable, but when you have 2 guys who TRY to play a sim game,Madden wins hands down.

I can only watch the Madden Challenge and that stuff in like 5 minute increments. Otherwise I find myself just reaching for my controller so I can play some Halo 2 or something similar and pretend there's a world without crazy shit like this.

Though I do like it when competitors bring their own crews to talk shit for them. Sort of reminds me of NBA Ballers (I think you get like a following in that and they'll help you out in game or something like that.) Maybe EA should make a Madden Challenge game? Like you have to amass a crew, manage your cheese level (sort of like respect in GTA). I'm sure they'd run play offs for that on G4TechTV, maybe they'll take off more of The Screen Savers to show it.

Maybe one day.. one sweet day I'll turn on G4TechTV and rather than Sweat, Players, Cheat or Madden Challenge. I'll find some sort of live broad cast from some major FPS tourney, that to me would be far more exciting than watching Big Gene's titties dance... I'm still trying not to think of something like that.

a FPS tournament? Like the one they showed of Quake 3 where the guys would just get the rocket launcher and use the bounce pads constatnly shooting aimlessly at whoever might possibly be around? That sounds like a lot of fun.

how about a halo 2 internet tournament where one player uses the ghost glitch, or the flag glitch, or the flying sword glitch? wow it would be so dreamy

fuck, i gotta friend that does that kinda shit in NCAA 2005. He'll beat me and say how he's such a great player, and its like "listen you fuckin' bitch, just cuz you exploit certain parts of the game doesn't mean you're better. It means you fucking cheat."

anyone who says cheating makes you a better gamer is a fucking pussy who needs to be hung on the wall by their nuts.

whats the point ramirez? they would just say "PFFFFFFFFFFT! YOU DROPPED BACK 10 YARDS! UNBELEEBABLE! HIT STICK IS GIMMICK! RUN GAME MARIO KART! BS BS BS!"

Espn 2k5 has its problems but the issues in madden go much deeper if this guy was running the same play over and over with that much success. It probably has more to do with the fact that madden controlls like crap and its much harder to actually defend something yourself instead of relying on the computer.

are you fucking joking me? i can run QB sneak all day with any team i want and likely win the game handily! you know first hand that bullshit! you ran josh mccown for like 80 yards on one drive in league. we had like five 2,000 yard rushers, and a lot of the games for those guys were simmed (no stats). you are right, both games have issues, but if you are saying it's easier to cheese in madden than in espn nfl 2k5 you might be clinically retarded (no offense of course)

Yea Konex running with Bledsoe and Duce running with McCown :lol :lol :lol :lol

Seriously,if you had T.O.,Moss,Ward,Harrison,etc. on your team all you had to do was run a PA Go Route and it would be caught 99% of the time, the game was a joke.I mean we had to turn on a feature that made teams play equally because the game was so broken, that should tell you how bad the game is.

There's no point in arguing at all about this but I might as well chime in.

The guy had so much success because the two finalists really only made it that far because of their offenses. It's clear they could not play very good, or any, defense, but they were able to exploit any and all bugs/cheese in the offensive side on the ball. Pretty Boy could have easily stopped the strafe catch by bumping Finneran and manually covering him with the safety. It looked like he stayed in a deep zone most of the time though.

Ramirez: And not only that, but then turning that feature on disabled O-Line blocking. :lol :lol :lol

Its easy to stop if you just blitz from one side and controll the DE on the other. Im not saying its eaiser to cheese in either game but apparently its eaiser to stop cheesers in Espn. I consider taking a DE and rushing up the middle cheesing but leaves a window for me to run to either side without any problem (the reason i had a shit load of rushing yards with mccown). I have yet to run into a money play against anyone online, i was ranked like 80 something at one point. If you can run the same thing over and over again then there is a major problem.

It's clear they could not play very good, or any, defense, but they were able to exploit any and all bugs/cheese in the offensive side on the ball.

So your saying there wasnt a single player in the tournament that could play defense and if there was they wouldve won? If these exploits are that easy to stop by a skilled player like yourself why were these guys in the finals.

uh no its not easy to stop. all i have to do in espn EVEN WITH TIM FUCKING RATTAY is the following: hot block to the side the CB is coming from, run to YOUR side (as the DE) and either cut inside if you take the outside angle, or take it outside if you stuff the inside. with tim rattay.

i hate to get into another flamewar thread about this, but the bottom line is that espn/nfl2kx feels like a completely random game. i call man-2-deep, i get burned for a long TD. why? i call a short cover 2 zone, i get a pass completed on me in front of my CB for 5 yards? why? i double team freaking justin GAGE from the bears with my 2 best CB's, he still catches a 30 yarder no sweat. why? then other times, i call a blitz, have my 3rd string cb 1 on 1 with moss, and he makes the stop. why does this make sense? i can never depend on my players doing what they're supposed to or being where they're supposed to be. it doesn't mean they NEVER do what they're supposed to, and that they're NEVER in the right place, but it is a complete crap shoot playing the game and that's what makes it a big piece of shit

VF is also built from the ground up to be played competitively, at the highest level.

Most games are not. If the game degenerates into "cheese-fests" or whatever at the highest level, then that game should just be played casually, and leave the serious competitive gaming for other games that can hold up at that level.

i was ranked like 80 something at one point.

You used the Eagles, unless you used a power team that matched them numbers wise you didn't have a chance in hell against a good player.

Not to mention Im sure you ran with McNabb like crazy if you ran with McCown :lol

Bog makes a hell of a lot of sense here. Did Big Gene use HB Corner or Corner Threat? Just curious. :D

I love when people put words in my mouth. :D

1) I wasn't at the Madden Challenge.

2) Look at the teams these guys use, there are reasons we (along with everyone else) call them power teams. Their players usually make plays other team's players can't/won't. It doesn't take much skill to call a base D and let their players react. If you can put up numbers whenever you want because people can't adjust to your offense, then why play D at all. Look at some of the scores in the Madden Challenge for proof of what I am saying.
