My wife worked on some Excel file and saved it on the flash stick. Her WinXP crashed and after the reboot she gets "access denied" message, Excel reports the file as read only or encrypted. As usual, this particular file is the most needed one
Is there any way to "unlock" it or the file is gone and the whole flash thing should be reformatted?

Nope, she's not reading/posting on GAF

Some of those sticks have actual physical locks, like on the floppy disks. Maybe it's enabled on yours.

If this file was writing while the PC crashed you maybe screwed... or you might simply go in to the properties of the file(right click, properties), and make sure it's not set to read only.

chkdsk helped, all the changes made up to the crash was lost. Still, it's better than nothing.
