EDIT: The OT Title has been changed -- credit to Schadenfreude for the new one. The previous title was The Last of X

Welcome to the official thread for the upcoming movie, Logan. (Also this would be my first OT ever -- please be gentle, but feel free to point out some problems)

The film has already been screened for a select few audience members and critics, and the international release date is coming exactly one week from today. That said, taking a note from members Toa TAK and Quick before, I just want to reiterate that this will be an open spoiler thread as a means of making this thread less complicated and so that Off-Topic in general will be a little less cluttered, especially given the current state of politics (sigh). Either way, it will keep things simple. If it matters though, only me and Bobby Roberts (and probably a bunch of lurkers) seem to be the only ones here who have seen the damn thing, so there may not be much sensitive information going around this thread until the wide release. Otherwise, spoiler-tagged discussion can be done in the review thread.

The movie will be releasing internationally on March 1 and March 2, 2017 (for specifics, see here) before finally being unleashed on North America on March 3, 2017. Unfortunately, Japan gets the short end of the stick, as its release date there is not until June 1, 2017 (Yashida must really hate Wolverine after the last one, huh).

If I have the time, I will also try to compile some of the more artsy variant posters later on, although I seem to having a hard time finding direct files of them. The official soundtrack is also nowhere yet, but when they have previews for that, expect that to be linked here too.

I don't remember if I was the one who pitched that OT title.

I mean, it's an incredibly easy one to put together -- not to mention so hammered into my brain because of TLOU popping up a bajillion times in discussions that it was hard time thinking of something else. Regardless, I still like it.

Nice OT. Great title pick.

How did OP lette that happen?

I coulda sworn they spelled it -lette in the movie.

Yeah there were like two dozen TLOU themed titles for Logan lmao

What? The Wolverine was good even if its third act was a little weak

Co-signed. It was good enough of a spin-off -- it just fell flat during the third act and why they decided to cut the big ninja fight scene for home release is still head-scratching.

I've heard some really weird and possibly stupid things regarding the final fight.
You're free to spill for verification.

But yeah, I agree once again, the third act of this movie is also pretty weak. Don't get me wrong, it's not as much of a problem as the previous Wolverine's climax. It didn't really undo all the good stuff it established until that point, but it made me go "Oh, we're in another X-Men movie alright."

Aww thanks for the photo edit to add credit MMarston :p

Leave no one behind.

BOBBY

Bobby spoil everything for me
The ending shot is the dopest shit.

costume?

post credits scene?
Nah, just on a toy.

There's a post credits scene now, but it wasn't screened for us.

Director James Mangold, on the costume:

I always feel a certain contingent of fans who are yearning for it. But the biggest block I've had – I'm willing to take the heat for it – is that, I can never get past, being a writer for these movies as well, that Logan is the least narcissistic of all the superheroes, any kind I can think of – Marvel, DC or anywhere else. What I mean by that is, who puts a special branded outfit on when they do good deeds? And why? The only reason you do it is so you can have some sort of trademarked claim and get credit for what you did. Nothing seems less Wolverine-like than the desire to put on a trademarked outfit , particularly canary yellow, and kind of prance about doing good deeds and have people go, "Oh my God! It's The Wolverine!" At least the Wolverine, as I see him, that's a real struggle for me and always has been. I somehow feel that if somehow we ever put Hugh [Jackman] into one of those outfits, people would not be happy. Essentially, it's something that lives on the page and I'm not sure could live anywhere else.

The movie was thankfully not infected with Superhero Herpes when I saw it, but reports are that there will be some sort of post-credits scene for the theatrical release.

Where do you think it stands in your superhero film ranking?

Probably the lower half of the top 10? I'd have to revisit that whole list I did in here a couple years ago.

I don't know if I should read spoilers or not!!!

The wait is killing me!
You should probably make that decision outside of a spoiler thread. Its kind of a one way street.

Anyway, I was told there's some body horror elements that pop up at some point. Can anyone speak to that?

I dunno about body horror but people get fucked up.

Body Horror denotes some Cronenbergian shit, to me, and the violence in this movie is more of your basic "people getting shot & stabbed & run through" stuff.

I heard turned into taco meat

There's that and...

- Various decapitations
- People getting legit blown up all splattery
- Halved-skulls
- Skulls blown open by revolvers
- Eye stabs
- Logan seems to love stabbing people through the jaw

Laura literally obliterates a man's entire face with one punch through a windshield.

It's fucking great.

Even if you know it's coming, you don't know it's coming. And then it happens and you're just like "AHAHAH WHAT THE FUCK"

And then there's like, 90 more minutes of movie to go.

Not gonna stick around for the thread but after reading that synopsis I just want to chime in to say that Children of Men joke would have been way more appropriate. Logan |OT| Children of X-Men Even fits better with the name. Anywho, got my tickets bought already. Can't wait.

Great OT.
I'll be seeing Logan next tuesday. I might have no other option than to see the dubbed version unfortunately but I'm not going to be patient enough to wait until the blu-ray.
It's my most anticipated comic-book movie this year and considering the reviews, I'm pretty sure this is not going to be another BvS / Suicide Squad situation for me thankfully. Still, keeping my expectations in check.

And I'm glad to finally witness the final instalment in the glorious Jackman / Mangold trilogy.
Kate & Leopold represent.

If there are people who want a full plot summary, I can do that, but it'll wait a few pages for the sake of people who just wanna spread the love for a bit.

(Gonna be a little long winded to type out anyway)

is daken in it? if not, i'm kind of shocked
Nope...

But Logan and Laura definitely aren't the only Wolverine people there.

Director James Mangold, on the costume:
I don't care about the costume at all but I feel like this argument is a bit misguided. Superman and Batman don't wear their outfits out of some narcissistic reason. Spider-Man wears his because people nearby die if he doesn't.
